Chapter 1

On a dark night, a man with red-head hair and blue eyes stood in a baby's room, he was holding a six-month-old baby girl as a woman with black hair and hazel eyes stood at the entrance.

"You'll be staying with the baby tonight, right?" the man asked as he looked down at the baby. She had hazel eyes and was a red-head like her father, and tons of freckles.

"Yes, Colm," the woman stated as she looked at her nails. "Vanessa will be will in my care."

"Good, 'cause last time you ditched her," the man stated.

"You don't even live here," the woman stated.

"Cressida, she's my child as much as she is yours," Colm stated.

"Finnigan," Cressida grunted.

"Sprout," Colm grunted before he kissed the baby's head. " I shouldn't be gone long, the order is scoping out a few death eaters."

"I heard before," Cressida stated as he put the baby down. Colm said goodbye to the baby before leaving and Cressida didn't keep her word, she left the baby home alone to go drinking with her friends. Cressida was a rising fashion designer in the wizarding world, she wasn't about to sacrifice it for a mistake. That night as Cressida was out partying, a group of death eaters broke into the home, they were surprised to find only a baby,

"What should we do with the brat?" Rabastian asked.

"Kill her," Bellatrix stated as she put a wand inches away from the baby's head. She lowered her wand in surprise, the baby was smiling up at her.

"Weren't you just going to kill her?" Rabastian asked.

"She's smiling at me, the filthy half-blood is smiling at me," Bellatrix sneered as she put the wand away. The baby sneezed, a flower shot out of Bellatrix's ear. A wicked smile crept on the woman's face as she picked up the baby. "That would teach them a lesson, let's go." They took the baby and left. For the next six months, the baby was declared missing, Cressida couldn't care less while Colm became a wreck. After Voldemort was defeated by the baby Harry Potter, the baby girl was said to be found in the basement of the Lestrange's manor. There was a snake bite on the baby's arm, a scar below her eye that would remain there forever. Burn marks on her legs. Worst of all a faint Death Eater's mark on the baby's left arm. Cressida lost custody of the baby, only allowed to see the child under supervision.

Vanessa spent got to spend five years with her dad before he was murdered by a rogue death eater in front of her eyes. After that, Vanessa spent being raised by her grandmother at Hogwarts, Madam Sprouts she would come to the greenhouse and spend time with her grandmother there. She also lived with her cousins, she got along with Seamus pretty well.  When Cressida was allowed to be with Vanessa, it was only to have the chance to prance order clothing for the super-rich wizarding families such as the Malfoys, and if there were no clothes to be shown off in, Cressida didn't bother showing up. For her own safety, Madam Sprout changed Vanessa's surname to Cady.

Vanessa was now at her cousin's house, she was eleven years old. She was helping her aunt with breakfast. Vanessa now wore her hair in long braids, she had green ribbons on the end. She wore a brown skirt that went to her knees, pink and green knee-high socks. She wore a pink shirt with a cat on it. In her hair, she also had a black headband with a bow that sat on the middle of her head.

"Ma!" Seamus yelled running into the kitchen with letters. "My Hogwarts letter came in! Along with Nessie's!"

"Of course they did! You are wizards are you not?" Aunty Fin asked.

"I got accepted?" Vanessa asked in surprise.

"Of course you did, how could they accept you when you spend five out of nine months there?" Aunty Fin asked. "You are going to be an amazing wizard just like your father!"

"As for me?" Seamus asked.

"If I get a letter about you blowing something up the first week, so help me," Aunty Fin glared at him.

"Oh, come on!" Seamus exclaimed as he looked over Vanessa's shoulder, he picked out a piece of bacon.

"Seamus!" Aunt Fin snapped as she smacked him in the back of the head.

"It tastes great! Just make it crispier!" Seamus instructed as he danced away from his mother's hand.

"Crispier," Vanessa repeated as she looked back at the pan as another hand reached down taking a piece.

"It's fine, "a  man stated, she looked back to see her Uncle. "A good cook just like your father." After breakfast, they went down to Diagon Alley to get their school supplies.

"Nessie, I am going to go ahead and get my wand," Seamus stated as he started to make his way down the alley. Aunt and Uncle Fin stayed at the Leaky Cauldron chatting with Tom, they gave the kids money to go get supplies.

"We aren't going together?" Vanessa asked.

" I'm too impatient!" Seamus shouted as he ran off. "Sorry!"

"Great," Vanessa frowned, she went into Flourish and Blotts for her books. Vanessa began to scan for her books when someone knocked into her. She looked up to see Ron Weasley.

"Vanessa," Ron greeted in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"I am here with my cousin," Vanessa answered. "Did you get your letter today as well?"

Ron nodded. "Fred tells me we are going to have to wrestle a troll for the entrance exam."

"A troll?" Vanessa repeated as she titled her head, she looked back to see Fred and George giving a thumbs up. She looked back at Ron.  "Sounds right."

"Bloody hell!" Ron exclaimed as he grew pale.

"Have you been able to find A History of Magic--" Vanessa began.

"No need to worry, I arranged with your Aunt to have Fred's old books be delivered to you," Mrs. Weasley stated as she walked up to Vanessa.

"Oh no," Vanessa began.

"I'm smarter than I look," Fred stated as he clapped a hand on her. "You will be excelling better than Bill did."

"Thank you," Vanessa smiled. "All I need is my wand then." She turned to Ron. "See you at school!" She waved before walking out. She made it into the wand shop to see her cousin trying to put out a fire. "Sea?" Seamus looked at her, face grew red. "You destroyed the shop?"

"Not at all!" a man laughed as he walked down the alley. "The wand chooses the wizard, Ms. Cady." The man was elderly, with shoulder-length white hair.

"Yeah!" Seamus agreed. Seamus finally managed to get a wand that latched to him. Now it was Vanessa's turn, she was shaving little luck.

"Now you blowing stuff up!" Seamus teased as he fell into more laughter.

"Sea!" Vanessa exclaimed.

"Mr. Finnigan, I would like to speak to your cousin alone," Ollivander stated as he walked down the aisle with a box.

"I want to see her blow things up more!" Seamus insisted. "For a change, it's not me!"

"Seamus it'll be fine," Vanessa assured him. She knew Seamus wanted to see her blow things up, but he also didn't trust her alone with an adult, he didn't know especially a man.

"I'll be in if anything happens," Seamus grunted before walking out.

"Is everything alright Mr. Ollivander?" Vanessa asked.

"Your possible wand core is special but terrifying, " Ollivander stated as he opened the box. "Try this." Vanessa took the wand giving it a wave, everything went back into place, nothing was set on fire, and Vanessa felt great. "Fascinating."

"What is it?" Vanessa asked.

"Your core is twin to the same dragon heartstring used for Madam Bellatrix wand, the same wand that gave you this," Ollivander stated as he gestured to the scar under her right eye. " A five-inch apple wood, with dragon heartstring." Vanessa stared at the wand in her hand, then touched the scar on her cheek. "Very fascinating."

"Thank you, sir," Vanessa said softly. "I best be on my way now before my uncle starts a fight in the leaky cauldron."

"Very well," Ollivander said as they went over to the register. "Treat your wand with great care, Applewood is powerful, not ideal for dark magic."

"I have no intentions for dark magic," Vanessa stated.

"Though we all know dark magic was planted on you," Ollivander stated as he pointed at her arm. "By a terrible man, who did great things, but terrible things."
