Flower Crowns

It was a quiet night with clear skies, as it was frequently. A car drove through the streets, muffled music playing as it came to slow at a curb, just on the border of a section of buildings alight with neon signs and colored glows eminating from various buildings. A line of trees bordered the road just before the town, and the wind gently ruffled the moonlit leaves, creating a soft whispering sound in the cool of night.

The car stopped and the side door opened, the previously muffled music blaring obnoxiously in the silence. A slim scarlet hoof stepped delicately out of the car, followed by two legs and eventually the rest of the body of a tall woman as she exited the car. A spade-tipped tail curled delicately around her legs as she turned back to the car. Her skin was a crimson red color, her body shape highlighted by a short red dress. Two slim horns caught and reflected the moonshine amidst her dark auburn hair.

The succubus walked around the front of the car to lean against the opposite side and peer into the window. Slowly said window rolled down and a small cloud of cigarette smoke wafted towards the succubus woman, to which she seemed unbothered.

She leaned down towards the door of the car and asked in a soft silky voice, "Pay up, big boy. You had your fun."

A laugh echoed from the car. "Do you really think you deserve my money, dumb bitch? I could have picked up any other girl at the club and had her for free."

The succubus's long ears pinned back slightly and her voice lost some of it's previous seductive flair. "We discussed my prices and agreed on $30 for the evening."

"I never agreed to shit," the voice snarled, the sleek woman flinching back from the car.

"Yes you did! You said--"

"You're just a stupid whore selling herself for a quick buck because you cant go through the effort of being a fucking normal person. Go sleep in a ditch or some shit or whore yourself out to someone else!" With those words the car took off, kicking up bits of gravel and dust that pelted the poor succubus as she was left standing on the curb humiliated and on the verge of tears.

She coughed a couple times and watched the fading red back-lights of the car in the distance. She sighed and started walking towards the town again, mentally debating over whether or not she should find somewhere to stay or if she should try again so the night wouldnt go to waste.

As she lost herself in thought she failed to notice the curb ending and suddenly tumbled onto the hard asphalt road at an intersection. She hissed in pain as her knee took the most of the force between her and the ground.

From the forest glowing eyes flashed as they observed the woman falling. The eyes disappeared for a second before a soft shape fluttered over the top of the trees, soft fur and buzzing wings silhouetted against the moon. The figure watched the road where the succubus had rolled into a sitting position.

She gently picked a few small rocks and grains of sand out of her bruised skin with nimble fingers, biting her lip to endure the pain as she examined her knee. From what she could tell, nothing was broken or out of place, and she could still flex her leg without too much trouble. Suddenly a hulking shadow fell over her and she jerked up, yellow eyes flashing defensively.

Her face softened then contorted into one of confusion as two large eyes met hers, twinkling with concern. Two feather-like antenae flowed above his head and a soft mane of grey fur framed his face like a scarf. Huge papery wings were folded behind his back, patterned with various shades of grey and silver arranges in spots and stripes.

The mothman extended one furred arm towards her, an offering of help. She hesitantly put her hand in his own and lwt him pull her up onto her feet. As he did she looked away from him in an attempt to hide her embarassment before muttering a small "Thank you."

His eyes crinkled slightly in a smile and he nodded once. Now that she was standing she could see some things a little better about him, like the soft fluff of hair on his head and the fact that he was shorter than her by about 6 inches.

The succubus tore her eyes away as alarm took over her rational thought and she tried to walk away to escape the awkward situation, but a soon as she took a step her injured leg buckled and she yelped as the ground began to rush up to her....

But it never came. She opened her eyes to find that the mothman had caught her and supported her against his side. She flushed in embarressment again and opened her mouth a couple times in an attempt to speak, but ultimately closed her eyes and clenched her jaw to keep the sudden tears from spilling down her cheeks. She had made a fool of herself 3 times in the span of less than a minute, and all she wanted was to go home.

The moth gently guided her to some grass beside the road and sat her down there. He knelt in front of her and examined her knee and leg, before suddenly standing and sprinting back across the street to the forest he had come from.

Now alone in the silence again the woman broke, letting soft sobs escape her as she pulled her knees up to her chest and lamented in her own sorrow for a minute, before the soft padding of feet came to her hearing.

She peered up through her blurred tears to see the mothman again just as he came to sit in front of her again, a bandage and water bottle in hand. She sniffed and tried to wipe away her tears with her arm, wiping off a bit of her makeup in the process. He waited for her to look back at him again before holding out the water bottle, which she accepted gratefully, taking a sip before sighing. She flinched when be gently touched her leg and straightened it out in front of him.

She tensed. "What are you..." she trailed off as the mothman glanced at her reassuringly and unraveled some of the bandage, before proceeding to securely wrap her knee with it. She fell silent again, watching him as he tied it off.

He looked at her with a gentle expression and she couldnt help but smile back, even if it was shaky. He stood up again and helped her up in much the same way as the first time, only this time her leg held her weight a little better. She tested it and took a few steps before looking back at him and said quietly, "Thank you, no one has ever done anything like this for me...."

He smiled again in return, waving it off. She looked away, still smiling before her smile fell slightly and she sighed. "I have to go though, it's late and I need to get somewhere."

He looked a little disppointed but nodded and began to turn away with a small wave. She waved back and made it a few feet away before she felt a tap on her arm.

The succubus turned to look at the mothman curiously. He held up one hand as if to say, "Wait here" before taking off across the street again into the forest.

She waited for a minute or two and considered just leaving but he burst from the forest again, stumbling over himself, and carrying something in hand. He made it back across the street and she realized what it was he had.

It was a flower crown, composed of white and pink roses and various smaller flowers in light warm colors, all framed by rich green leaves. He came to a stop in front of her and presented it to her. She was no expert on crafts of gardening but she could see it was hand-made and pretty well crafted.

"It's...." she picked it up to examine the arrangement of flowers lining the crown, admiring the colors and flowers chosen. "It's very pretty, I like it."

He gently took the flower crown out of her hand and reached up to place it on her head, looping around one of her horns and sweeping her auburn hair out of her face.

Once it was centered properly he stepped back to admire his work and smiled at her, waving one final time and leaving to his forest. She watched him go and smiled, tears welling up again as a warm feeling overtook her body.

A stranger had touched her that night, but not in any way she ever could have expected. He had picked her back up from a low point, helped her, and left her with a gift she would never forget, without ever saying a word. They never saw each other again after that night, but even after the flowers on her crown wilted she had no doubt in her mind that she had made a friend that night, one she would never forget.
