Chapter 23: Breakfast.

Jimin:

I wake up first. It's nice waking up in his bed - not just because it's Jungkook's bed (like holy crap I'm waking up in his bed ha) - but because it's nice to be in a bed that wasn't A.) falling apart and B.) didn't have springs that stuck into your ribs all through the damn night. In fact I don't think I've had a new bed for my room in...well forever.

I turn over and see Jungkook still sleeping on the floor beside me, mouth agape and eyes closed and puffy.
Haha he looks so stupid. But cute nevertheless.

I find my jeans laying across the floor and fumble in the pockets to find my phone. I switch it on to check the time. There's a load of missed calls from Yoongi, and a text asking me if I'm alright and that Zico had been chased out of our side of the neighbourhood.
I text him back telling him I'm okay.

My body still aches from yesterday's events and I stretch around the bed trying to relieve myself of some of the pain. The real pain though was in my stomach. I'm so hungry ughhhh.

Maybe if I sneak downstairs I can grab some food. It's still super early so I doubt his parents would be awake.
Was I willing to even risk bumping into them? It's not a great introduction is it - to randomly show up in their home, not properly dressed and looking like I've been beaten half to death...
which I have been, but you get me.

Either way I can't ignore this hunger. My belly aches from emptiness. Maybe if I could just sneak down quickly...

I throw the covers off of me and go to stand up. Tiptoeing carefully, I step over a sleeping Jungkook, holding my breath as though it would somehow make me lighter. Treading carefully still, I creep out his bedroom and down the stairs, still limping slightly as I head in the direction of kitchen.

I look around. Once. Twice. Once more just in case. No sign of anyone. I walk into the kitchen, and slowly open the fridge. Holy shit. They have everything. In fact this fridge is so packed I can barely see the light shining behind it. We never have this at home. I'm lucky if we even manage to have more than 5 items in our fridge at one time. I grab what I can, without taking too much because I didn't want to feel like I was completely raiding their fridge and stealing their food.

I'd stolen plenty before in the past.
Me and the gang would sometimes just go to the store and grab what we can - running before any angry shopkeeper could stop us. But it felt wrong to take anything from Jungkook's family's home, even if it was just a few bits of food. Just as I had my hands full, a deep voice speaks out behind me.

'Oh. Um hello - are you Jungkook's friend?' I freeze.
This was so embarrassing. Startled,
I put the food back in the fridge quickly and shut the door. I turn around to see a man standing in front of me, looking incredibly smart despite it being the early hours of the morning. The kind of smart where you can tell they have their life together, shirt neatly tucked into his trousers and newspaper clutched in hand.

'Oh - yeah I-I'm sorry.' I stutter, not knowing what else to say. I look down at my appearance. God I was even wearing his son's clothes - what must he think of me?! I toss and turn a lot when I sleep, so the clothes were now crinkled all over. I'm a mess.

He laughs a little at my bewilderment. 'Hey it's okay, if you're hungry help yourself. I'm Jungkook's father, and you are...?' His voice was calm, and made me feel more relaxed. 'Um...Jimin.' I introduced myself.

'Nice to meet you - if you're so hungry I was just about to make breakfast, I go into work late today since I just got back from an overnight shift, so I'm here for a few hours before I have to go. Sit down.' He gestures to the breakfast table as he walks past me, setting down his newspaper and rolling up his sleeves.

I take a seat, still in a tense state.
I wasn't used to a grown man being this nice to me. It's not like I got this kind of treatment from my own dad.

'Jungkook's still asleep I presume?' His dad asks me as he begins to fry something on the oven hob. 'Hm.' I mumble.

'Do you parents know you're here? Know you're safe?' He continues to ask.

'Um yeah they do.' I lie.

'Whereabouts do you live? Near?'

'Kind of...I live on the road nearby. The dead end road. There's only like three houses down there and I'm in the middle one.'

'Oh yes yes I know where you mean. I pass by that road on my way to work.' Jungkook's Dad replies. 'That's not too far, I guess you and Jungkook can see each other often.' He says smiling.

'Yeah, you're right.' I tell him, returning the smile. The food smells great, and I can hear whatever it was sizzling in the pan.

'Good, good. It's good that Jungkook is making so many new friends. Make sure you stick by him okay? He's not had it easy before when it comes to school.' His dad says as he stirs the food around.

'Oh? Really?' I ask curiously. Jungkook's Dad sighs.

'Hm, he had a lot of trouble with bullies back in Daegu. Some kids can be cruel you know?' He tells me, his smile turning into a frown as he explains.

'Don't worry Mr.Jeon. I'll look out for him.' I tell him truthfully, smiling wide as to reassure him.
He lets out a chuckle.

This is nice. Nice talking to an adult who doesn't already know your notorious reputation as the neighbourhood troublemaker. Nice to pretend for just a second that I had a dad as nice as Jungkook's Dad was.

Jungkook:

I roll over. Ughhh I hate mornings.
I know I've said this a thousand times, but whoever first decided that the world should wake up at such early times like this can fuck right off. Seriously. I prop myself up onto my elbows, eyes still only half open and my vision still foggy. Why am I on the floor? Did I roll out of bed?

Oh shit it's because Jimin stayed the night. I remember. I quickly look over to the bed, only to find it was missing its occupant. Huh. Where did he go? Did he leave already? I scan the floor, looking to see if he had taken his clothes and left already. But his clothes were still in a pile next to the bed. Hm... I stand up, almost falling over. Wake up Jungkook. I slap myself to knock myself out of my sleepy state.

I stumble down the stairs, and can smell food cooking in the kitchen. Ugh it smells so good... I can feel my mouth watering.

As I turn the corner to walk through the living room and into the kitchen,
I spot Jimin and my dad sitting at the table and laughing together. That cocky bastard. He's only been here one night and he's already introduced himself to my dad. And they're getting along as though it were the most normal thing ever. I smile as I walk over to them, happy that they were getting along and that my dad hadn't thrown Jimin out as soon as he saw him haha. I pulled out a chair and joined them at the breakfast table.

'Ah Jungkook, your dad here is a great man.' Jimin tells me, pointing a spoon towards my dad whilst smiling so wide he was practically beaming.
Dad laughs loudly in response as he goes to get me some of the food.

'Ah, it's a shame your mum had to be at work this morning Jungkook - I think she would have loved Jimin.'

Wow. They got along so well. I don't know whether to keep being happy or throw up. Jimin smiles at me as he stuffs food in his mouth, cheeks full. Idiot. Cute idiot.
