M O R O I S

(n.) the stupidest of the stupidest

Florence woke up to the sound of an obviously exaggerated moan. She let out a frustrated groan and rolled in her bed, causing her blanket to fall off her half-naked form. While laying on her stomach, she grabbed her pillow and placed it on the back of her head before using her arms to push the ends down so they would cover her ears.

"Oh, Sergei." Her neighbor's conquest of the night was obviously a female, judging by the weirdly high pitched yet somehow seductive tone of her voice.

Remind me to soundproof the walls as soon as possible, Flora thought bitterly as she pushed her pillow against her ears with all her might. Somehow the ungodly sounds still managed to smother their way to her poor, innocent eardrums.

"For Pete's sake," She grumbled when suddenly a bang sounded from the other side of her bedroom wall. Only a few seconds later the banging repeated itself before the sound became continuous and Flora realized exactly what was going on. Don't tell me he just got a new headboard. Throwing her pillow blindly away, she pushed herself up and did a pathetic somersault out of her bed, landing ungracefully on the floor.

Flora grabbed a grey hoodie from the only chair in her bedroom, one that was covered in her used but not dirty enough for the laundry clothes. She pulled it over her head and slid her feet into her Mike Wazowski slippers before storming out of her bedroom and towards the front door. The moans and sickening animalistic growls seemed to be growing louder by the minute, causing her head to pound. "There's no fucking way he's lasting this long."

Storming outside and towards the apartment next to hers, Flora was quick to start pounding her fists on door number 6. Finally, the noises faded out. A few curses sounded from the other side of the door before it was whipped open, revealing a beyond pissed looking Sergei Colt.

Ah, there he was. That motherfucker.

What a tool, Flora thought.

"Jésus Christ Florence, what the fuck do you want from me?" He spat and ran his piano fingers through his insanely messy hair. Even though Sergei was six inches taller than Flora, he had never intimidated her and she didn't hesitate to cross her arms angrily over her chest and shoot him an icy glare.

"Look, I'm glad you have a healthy sex life and the two of you obviously seem to be enjoying yourselves, but will you please try not to pierce a hole through my bedroom wall with your bed?!"

Her sharp tone seemed to startle her neighbor, as his eyebrows raised in surprise and his jaw slightly dropped. "Pardon?"

Flora rubbed her eyes before sighing. "Can you just please try to stop waking me up in the middle of the night? You guys are way too loud, OK?"

A moment of silence passed before Sergei did literally the only thing that could've made Florence any angrier than she already was. His lips stretched into a wide smile that almost reached up to his pointy ears before he fucking dared to laugh straight in her face.

"Are you kidding me?" Florence hissed. "This is not fucking funny! I have an eight am class to wake up to and I can't sleep because your girlfriend thinks she's in a fucking erotica!"

The word 'girlfriend' seemed to immediately shut him up. His smile disappeared and he quickly glanced over his shoulder before ducking his head closer to Flora to whisper, "She's not my fucking girlfriend. And now you're being too loud, imagine if she heard you and got the wrong impression. I'd have to start ghosting her and it would be all your fault."

"Oh, you're such a despicable human being." Florence scrunched up her nose in disgust as she slightly backed away from her neighbor that had unwelcomely invaded her personal space. "Just, be quiet, OK?"

Sergei raised an eyebrow while he pretended to think about it. "What will I get in exchange?"

Flora had just turned on her heels to return to the safety of her apartment, but his words caused her to come to a halt. "What do you mean?"

He shrugged before a playful grin spread across his lips and immediately, Flora knew nothing good was about to come out of his filthy mouth. "Well, if I have to rudely ask, uh, her, to be quiet, I must get something in return. What about a short night with you later this week?"

A wave of pure disgust washed over Flora at what he was suggesting and she fake gagged to show her repulsion. "That is never going to happen and you know that mighty well."

Sergei pursed his lips and grabbed the door handle. "Well, good luck getting some shuteye tonight."

Before he managed to slam the door shut, Flora had already jumped to action and just barely managed to stick her foot in the doorway to prevent him from shutting her out. "Sergei, wait."

The door slowly opened again, much to her relief. Unfortunately, the sight before her didn't make her feel any better. Her neighbor stood before her with his hand in the pocket of his pajama pants that were, by the way, hanging dangerously low on his hips, and a smug look (with a hint of anticipation) painted on his sculptured face, "Yes?"

"Can't you just be a decent human being this one time?" Flora practically begged as she thought about her upcoming lecture with Mr. Darringhed in the morning. She knew this was a lame, if not the lamest, attempt to get him to listen to her but there was no way in hell, heaven or earth that she would ever give in to his former request.

"Hmmm," Sergei hummed and scratched his chin in a theatrical manner. "I think not, sounds like I'd actually have to put an effort into that and I'm way too tired."

This time, Flora was too late to react and before she knew it, he had already shut the door in her face. "Asshole!" She yelled and kicked his door. Suddenly the apartment door beside her opened and their neighbor, Miss Parrington peeked outside with a deep frown on her wrinkled face.

"You! Get lost or I will call the police! People are trying to sleep in here!"

Florence's eyes widened and she quickly apologized before scurrying back into her home. She shimmied out of her hoodie and kicked her slippers off before letting herself fall onto the bed with a defeated sigh. Contrary to what she expected, she soon drifted off to sleep without any further interruptions, since no more sounds could be heard from the apartment beside hers.
