T W O

She heard Tony Stark even before her eyes opened the next morning. Mickey was the epitome of stealth (hence her abilities to even get away from Avengers a total of 3 times but who's counting) and Tony Stark was the anti of it all, which is probably why she heard his whisper of a swear as he bumped his hand against her kitchen table. Her eyes rolled, not moving an inch as she continued to listen as he moved around. Even with the inevitable Iron Man awaiting her she still acted like she had no clue, which is likely what Steve would have asked her to do.

She laid in bed, letting out a roar of a sigh as she looked to the wall above her bed and thought over last nights occurrence. After she agreed to aid Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson it'd been a whirlwind of events, they had told her Tony was likely already in London and her father needed to disappear within the hour. Charles packed a few short items, his brush sets that he'd collected over the years, an assortment of family heirlooms and photographs Mickey had kept and now belonged to him, the rest of the jewels and some money Mickey had collected over their short year in London (she had kept a few thousand just in case Stark was an asshole and didn't buy her anything), and finally he had taken Minnie with him. It had broken Mickey's heart to let her sweet puppy go away almost as much as her fathers departure but she knew it was the best, besides her father was gonna need the beagle.

Their goodbyes were short and sweet, given the time crunch neither could say much or even cry for that matter and besides the family was known for crying. Mickey hugged her dad, kissed his cheek and reminded him she would be safe. She handed him a cell phone that she managed to decrypt and then encrypt with their own software so no one would be able to trace their calls, she also gave Steve and Sam ones just in case things went south and they needed to discuss alternative routes. Charles Danvers took the phone and stuck it in his back pocket, hugging his daughter close to his body and reminding her if she ever needed a thing he would be there within a day. The man would have given up his life for his young daughter, there was no question about that. With a kiss to her forehead and a bump to the nose with his finger he softly pulled Minnie closer and disappeared into the night with his two accomplices.

That left Mickey to clean up any trace of him.

Within a few hours into the night she had managed to wipe his apartment clean. She'd tracked down the nearest homeless shelter and brought all his clothes there knowing her father didn't have anything in particular he cared for amongst the wardrobe. She got rid of most of his stores paint and easels by dropping them off at one of the low rate school, the furniture was more complicated but decided to track down one of the worst neighborhoods and together with her driver and a stolen van she gave them to a lovely family who were at first suspicious but changed their tune as soon as they saw what she brought them. With no trace of her father ever living in the apartment above her and the room vacated she sought out to clean any known images of her father in the area since the time they moved in, all in all the process took 4 hours and she was exhausted when she finally managed to crawl into bed.

And now she actually had to pretend to be mildly interested in what Tony Stark wanted from her, all for the sake of her father. She blinked a few times, hearing the silence in the other room and figuring Tony must have found a comfortable spot to lay. After a moments hesitation and debating wether to just run out the window in her room, she finally sat up and swung her legs over the bed. She had worn a pair of spandex shorts and her fathers large shirt, already having guessed Tony would be here by the time she woke up.

Mickey stretched her arms out as she stood, popping all the sore joints and muscles from last night, her head felt heavy from the lack of sleep but she supposed Tony wouldn't wait for her forever.

After a quick brush of her teeth she trudged her way back out into the hallway, bare feet moving at a very slow pace as she rounded the corner and found not 1 but 2 avengers.

Tony had brought along Natasha who as a spy was a natural in the art of stealth.

Mickey blinked a few times, knowing that if she hadn't already been expecting them this would be her likely reaction. Her shoulder were slump and she was still getting used too the taste of fresh mint in her mouth when she rubbed at her eyes with her knuckles and then groaned, turning in the other direction. "Nope, not before my coffee, not like this Satan."

Tony Stark stood from his spot, slightly wondering why the brunette wasn't more animated when seeing them but he chalked it up to her just waking up. He walked over, loafers tapping against the ground loudly as Natasha sighed in annoyance and followed him.

"I don't know whether I'm more offended you don't know how to say good morning to us or the fact you left Steve, the dinosaur of the group, an email on how to find you." He said, elbows on the breakfast counter and eyes locked on the short girl who was plucking the ingredients to make iced coffee out of her fridge. He noticed how restless she looked, her hair was piled on top of her head but it seems she had been moving around a lot in her sleep as pieces of hair were wild everywhere.

Mickey slammed the hazelnut creamer onto the table, glaring at Iron Man with an unamused expression, she wasn't acting them. "You broke into my house and woke me up when you jammed your hand into my furniture and Steve was the least likely to ever ask for my help, much less figure out how to use a damn computer."

The red head rolled her eyes at the man, "I told you that woke her up."

Tony's bottom lip pouted, a sign he was slightly offended with the brunette teenager for reaching out to Captain America instead of him but like Mickey had stated previously, she never once thought they'd look for her again and she really did have more faith in Steve. He made a point to speak to her with respect even after the Loki thing, while Tony would send a few jabs her way and some of the others would glare when she wasn't looking Steve was different. The Captain smiled at her, referred to her as "Miss" when they first met and respected her capabilities, after all, she may have been a hell of a lot younger then any of them but there was no way they could compete with her skills.

The idea to leave Steve the means to communicate with her was a last minute decision, just as she was leaving Sokovia she found her feet wouldn't trudge all the way up the plane and her stomach kept revolting as if something wasn't right. It took her under an hour to miss her flight and come to the decision of plotting out her scheme for Steve. Getting in the states was a bit harder then expected but she didn't really worry, one way or another she would. After that all it took was mailing the postcard that consisted of a picture of modern day Brooklyn, a tiny hole where his old home had been back in the 1930's, and then all it took was setting up a laptop with a already logged in email account, really it was a simple job.

"It got her up at least, otherwise we would have been stuck here for another hour." Tony rolled his eyes and looked back towards the girl. "So princess, you not gonna ask us why we're here?"

Mickey spared him one glare, attempting her best not to tighten her fist and show the man just how much he got under her skin with that nickname. Tony made it a point to call her princess whenever possible, honestly she didn't know wether he did it out of spite or simply joked around that much.

After a brief pause in which Mickey moved her eyes over to an observant Natasha she finally answered, "I watch the news. I know why you're here, it's about the Accords. The real question is why you'd think I'd care."

"Mickey, like it or not you're an Avenger." Natasha reasoned with the girl, knowing just how much the teenager didn't agree with that statement.

Mickey suppressed her smile, swirling the cup full of ice as she hears Steve's words echo in her head. She had to sound as convincing as possible though and making this easy would not ease the suspicion she could see clear beyond Tony's eyes. "Really? I though plotting world domination puts me on the other end of the spectrum."

"That was 5 years ago, you were a kid." Nat retorted.

"Tony didn't think so, in fact most of you were up for sticking me in a padded room until I was 40." She snapped, remembering her surrender. Back then they had never realized the magnitude of her powers, how easy it was for her to get around walls. She had heard the group ranting on about what to do with her once they had caught Loki, the ideas had ranged from handing her over to SHIELD and Asgardian justice. It didn't take her long to come up with the plans of escaping.

"Steve told us not to, he said you were a smart kid who just needed to see the better part of the world and look at you now."

"Steve's also not here." She deadpanned.

"Steve is—looking over the Accords plan." Tony countered and Mickey all but scoffed at his words.

Liar, she thought, and continued to slosh the drink around in her hand as she awaited for them to ask her. Neither seemed to answer, probably assuming she was slightly hurt Captain America hadn't come along. After a brief moment of reflection and annoyance Mickey finally looked directly at the Iron Man, bluntly stating, "so, what do you want from me? Really?"

Tony pulled out a large file from the the inside pocket of his jacket, a thick, binder stack being set on the table and pushed her way. Mickey almost wanted to snort at how redundant this was, practically playing out in the same format as her conversation with Steve and Sam last night. She looked down, furrowing her eyebrows as she read the cover page.

SOKOVIA ACCORDS
VIENNA, AUSTRIA

One of his brows lifted as Tony pulled it open, "117 countries have signed on. The conference is tomorrow. Natasha, Vision, Rhodes, and I have signed on, we'd like it if you did too. It could be a new start Mickey, one where you didn't have to hide and look behind your shoulder all the time, you could finally be seen as good, a hero to everyone."

Mickey listened to his words and for a moment she allowed herself to believe that Tony could make such words come true. Never having to run, to keep money on the table and fearing for her own life, it was a beautiful dream but like Cap had said, it was just a dream. The brunette swallowed thickly, once more glancing towards her drink as she pretended to think about it, this needed to be believable after all, which is why she answered the way she did, "no."

"No? Mickey? Are you kidding me?" Tony's eyes narrowed, and for a moment she saw slight betrayal in his voice. She was confused because it seemed like Stark actually cared for her to do this.

"I'm not good enough," she clarified and all three knew exactly what she meant.

Nah clasped her hands together, running one thumb over the other hand, "tell her."

Tony eyed the red head, he had been hoping to hold this detail back because he was smart enough to know that this was less of a possibility then the other parts he had offered but he had no choice now. All his cards needed to be on the table, Mickey was smart just like him which meant the brunette wanted transparency and honesty, which is likely why she hadn't left him the option to reach out before. Tony had to admit, he was slightly hurt that she hadn't left him a means of communication, they had gotten along well despite some of their bickering but beside that Mickey was a lot like him.

He sighed, "how about freedom for you and you dad to come back? A whole new start, one where both of you can live happily. What do you say about that princess?"

Mickey wanted to flare her nostrils and emit a noise that sounded like anger from her lips, something to show she had no faith in his offer. With each word it was harder to control the anger collecting insider her chest, harder not to admit everything out loud. This was false hope he was giving her, one she was very aware of but still, it hurt either way. She reminded herself that both Tony and Natasha knew nothing about what was actually happening, about Ross's plan for her after the Accords, about what her life could potentially end up being. She bit her lip, tilting her head slightly as if to show she was intrigued and then lifted her hand out.

"Promise me."

"What?" Tony was confused, staring at her tiny palm, and then back at her poker face.

"You promise me that my father and I get back safe, that we get cleared of everything and I'll sign the stupid Accords. I'll make nice with everyone at the convention and I'll be your personal puppet." She clarified, every word felt like acid as it came out because there was nothing but lies there.

"Mickey, I promise you this. I'll personally bring your father to you the moment this is over." He shook her hand tenderly, like she was his old friend. The light in Tony's eyes was hopeful and bright, different to his trademarked wittiness and for a second Mickey felt her heart ache for him, but she reminded herself that her fathers safety was more important now.

It always would be.

Tony gave Mickey a short hour to pick up any belongings she would need for their flight. She was quick, throwing a pile of shoes and outfits into 3 large duffels and anything else she would hassle Tony to get for her. He also promised that the rest of her apartment would be stocked and shipped back to her by the time the convention was over as well. She merely smiled at this in appreciation, following behind the Avengers as they led her into a luxury car headed for the nearest airport.

They boarded a small jet, courtesy of Stark himself and flew overseas back to the US where Tony claimed he needed to pick up a few things.

Mickey sat through most of the flight in silence, eating a nice breakfast and watching a few movies on the Netflix account she had bugged Tony to let her use. Her eyes danced across a variety of shows before she grew bored and finally shut the iPad off.

Natasha and Tony were a few seats from her, talking amongst themselves as both kept looking through text messages of their phones. Mickey stared at them for a second longer, finally standing and pulling her dress down.

She took the seat next to Natasha, the red head looking up as she sat and sparing her a warm glance. Mickey smiled back at her, turning towards Tony who hadn't expected her to join them, "so tell me, what is it we need to go back for?"

"Well, I was assuming you'd like to see Wanda and Vision one last time so there's that but we've gotta pick a few people up." He clarified, setting his phone down before speaking to her. Mickey absolutely detested whenever he both talked and scrolled through his phone at the same time, one time she had actually opened a portal to hurl his phone into it, Tony made it a point to never be on the phone when he talked to her now.

She seemed to brighten at the mention of Wanda, the European beauty was her age and had gone through her villain stage as well, they had bonded since then. "I'm assuming that's at the compound then?"

He nodded back, "yes, Wanda's staying there for the time being."

"Great, is Steve there as well?" She sounded convinced, mainly because she actually did want to know if he was there.

"Steve's off looking for Bucky." Natasha responded, her too setting her phone down and looking up. "By the way have you made any progress?"

"Sadly no," Mickey answered. "I would be Mrs. Barnes by now."

"Again, he needs help not marriage." Nat retorted, although there was a small smile on her lips as she spoke. The brunette was suddenly reminded how much she actually like Nat as well.

"He'll get both with me," She wiggled her shoulders together and Nat almost snorted.

"You're unbelievable," she laughed.

"Tell that to Bucky the next time you see him, will ya?" Mickey's cheeky smile was enough to have Tony cutting the conversation short.

"Okay, do that anywhere but in my ear vicinity please," Tony shushed them, making a face of pure disgust. Mickey was reminded of her father in that moment, and she found her lips lifting into a smile at the words.

"What a dad thing to say," Natasha snorted. "Seriously, with the sass and smarts between the two of you I could see father and daughter."

"Tony my dad? Never. Nobody would ever go for it," Mickey retorted, plucking the soda off Tony's tray and opening it.

"Mickey is the reason I fear having children, I think I'd have shipped her off to a convent by now." Tony commented.

"My dad tried that, twice." The teenager looked up as if she was recalling the memory and smiled as if it was a funny story. "Didn't pan out so well for him in the end."

"Lovely," Tony grimaced.

"Father, daughter," Nat remarked again before returning to her cell phone.

Mickey settled down after a moment and focused on Tony, "so who exactly are we picking up?"

Tony pulled at the cuffs of his sleeve, sweat suddenly developing at his temples as he knew this was not going to be an easy answer. "Not many, mainly those on the panel, General Ross."

Mickey wasn't at all surprised, she leaned back and crossed her arms over her chest. "Great, you really thought this out well Tony."

"Mickey, he wants your father not you." Tony attempted to reconcile.

The brunette huffed slightly, "did you ever stop to think why that was? Why all he wanted was to lock my father into the deepest hole and then throw away the key? Why even after I came out to the world, rescued my father, and then became a good guy he still wouldn't let it budge?"

Natasha had stopped her answering emails now, looking up as the conversation had gained her attention but even so the brunette's sole concentration was on Stark.

Tony only had one valid answer to all of that, "Mickey, your dad stole valuable information to the world. Top secret information that in the wrong hands could have destroyed the world, your dad was bad but whoever he could have given that information too was worse and that made him just as bad."

Ignoring the small jabs at her father the brunette leaned in further, "yes, it was top secret information, and no one was ever able to explain how my father even got in there or how he knew what to look for in the first place. Everyone assumed the serum died with cap and then disappeared again with Banner but need I remind you there is still one very alive common denominator to the two, someone very vital right now."

"Mickey, what are you saying?" Tony questioned after all her implications, both him and Nat were astounded to everything the brunette had said, all those accusations were more then just serious, they could be treason.

"WE ARE ARRIVING TO NEW YORK, PLEASE TAKE YOUR SEATS AND BUCKLE IN."

Mickey stood despite the turbulence, turning away from both avengers and heading to her original seat. Her mood had grown bitter and she needed to reign it in otherwise portals would start opening up all around her and in a jet that was not a good thing.

She ignored Tony's question but when she finally sat down and faced him, eyes boring into each others as they buckled in Tony knew, even Natasha knew.

Ross was responsible for more then just Banner's transformation.
