Truths

Bracing herself, Flaky clamped her eyes shut. She couldn't watch. However, she couldn't keep her eyes closed. She watched as Flippy continued walking into the road, the car speeding towards him.

When the car was merely minutes from colliding, Flippy finally looked. His eyes narrowed in a frustrated way. It got closer, and closer...

Beeeeeeepppppp!

Flippy jumped up, paws slamming against the car hood. Amazingly, he actually leapt over the car, landing on his feet. Flaky was gob-smacked, staring wide eyed at the green bear.
"F- Flippy?" She murmured. She expected him to reply, yet he didn't. Instead, he dashed off, avoiding cars, and shoving people.

Finally collected her bearings, and dashed after him. She truly couldn't figure out where he was trying to go.

She pursued him through forestry, still trying to put pieces together. H- how much further?! Panting, she felt her legs aching. She was wearing leggings and a cardigan. Nothing designed for running. Yet, here she was, sprinting after her friend.

Suddenly, something blocked her path. She ran straight into it, falling backwards onto the ground. Looking up, she saw Flippy had finally stopped.

Getting up, she stood by his side, staring in shock at where they were. It was the cliff she took him to. Why come here? Then, a horrible realisation hit here.
"Flippy, no!" She screamed, grabbing his arm to yank him backwards. But, he stood firm. She sobbed loudly, still using all her might to pull the backwards. Nothing. Noticing it wasn't working, she raced forward, standing in front of him.
"...Flippy.... please..." she whimpered, staring into his eyes. Joy filled her as his eyes trailed downwards to look at her. That joy only grew as Flippy's expression changed to concern.
"W- what's wrong!?" He yelled, crouching down slightly to eye level.

"Please... don't do it..." she sobbed, words difficult to understand.

"Do what!?" He asked in alarm, until he put the pieces together, ".... Flaky, I wasn't planning to jump..."

Flaky was astonished.
"T- then, why?" She stammered, sniffling.

"Why come here? Well, it's my favourite place."

"B- but why w- were you acting like that?"

"... I was scared..."

"Of?"

"Of hurting you. So, I was trying to get away."

"Why would you hurt me, though?"

"... I've never been good at handling anger. I was afraid of going to violence... so I ran here... to calm down."

"O- oh..."

"Why follow me?"

"I- I was scared o- of what you'd do..."

"...I see..."

Flippy sat down, an action repeated by Flaky. Smiling, Flippy pulled her closer. Giggling, Flaky rested her head on his shoulder, as he draped an arm over her shoulder.
"You know why it's my favourite place?" Flippy asked, paw gently brushing her quills.

"Because of the view?" Flaky asked, blushing at Flippy's actions. Why am I blushing?... i- I'm not.. a- am I?

"Nope. While that's a plus, it's not the main reason."

"T- then why?" Where is this going!?

Flippy moved, shuffling around so he and Flaky were facing. He's not, is he!?
"Because... you brought me here. And, well... it was my first real experience of... well, living. Seeing something beautiful, a- and to share that moment w- with someone... is magical. Especially when it's someone I hold so dear, and cherish so much." He wore an expression of softness as he inched closer.

"Y- y- you h- hold m- me dear?" Flaky's blush darkened, her heart racing as fast as her mind. She inched closer too, bracing herself for the moment.

"Of course! You're my best friend." He smiled wide, looking purely innocent. Flaky felt her heart shatter like glass. She knew she should've been happy to hear that. Then, why did it pain her so? She lowered her head slightly, heart aching, and eyes blurring with tears.
"...O- oh..." she muttered, disheartened.

Flippy's ears perked up at her tone.
"I- is something wrong?" He asked, worry looming over him.

"N- nah, i- I'm good. J- just, uhh, feeling a bit under the weather. I'm gonna head home..."

"A- are you sure?"

"..Yeah..."

"Ok, I'll walk with you!" Flippy stood up, offering a paw to Flaky. However, she declined it, getting up herself.
"..W- was it s- something I s- said?.." Flippy squeaked, fear of losing his most cherished overwhelming him.

"N- no... i- I'm fine. I'll see you tomorrow."

"..O- ok... if you're sure..."

With that, Flaky faltered off, leaving Flippy in dismay.
"... I'm sorry... for whatever I did... I'm sorry..." Flippy apologised, too quiet to be heard. Tears rolled down his cheeks.

Meanwhile, Flaky had slumped on a bench, sobbing silently. She wanted so desperately to tell him how she felt. But, she couldn't bring herself to do it. It was even more difficult, seeing as she recently learned he didn't even know what love was. She still didn't understand that.

But, what she understood less was...

... how did she fall in love with...

... with someone she was scared off.

(-wow. Went from deep, to fluff, and back to deep. Well, hope you like the heavy note I ended on-)
