Clarity

Pink cat eyes stared back at her. Her heart started to beat faster. She wanted to bolt. This was torture. Looking in the mirror. Seeing what she'd become. Seeing what she was. Reminding her of the blood that seemed to drip from her hands.

It was just a hallucination. She closed her eyes tightly, and held her self. People say that hell is burning. Fire, lava, screaming. But in her mind, she thought hell would be like her--cold, unfeeling, and emotionless.

She had spent her whole life emotionless. Two emotions she did feel, were anger and shame. So when she looked in the mirror, all she saw was a broken girl. A damaged child. Nothing left was even human anymore.

The girl in the mirror stared back at her. Blood dripped from her fingers. Chains tying her limbs together, and a broken, uncaring look adorning the girl's face.

Jinx didn't want to look anymore. She tried to move it but it wouldn't budge. She felt hot tears roll down her face. She couldn't help who she was. That thing inside of her wanted out.

She bit her lip and smashed the mirror to pieces, ignoring the shards that embedded themes in her knuckles. "Leave me alone!" She started screaming. Her heart was pounding. Her head was spinning. She felt like she was on the edge of having a panic attack.

People flooded into the once empty mirror. They grabbed her arms to take her away again. She tried to grab the glass. If she could just die, the monster would die too. But they carried her away as she struggled.

They threw her into a room down the hall, and locked the doors behind her quickly.

She collapsed, sobbing, the voice in her head getting louder and louder. She felt claustrophobic. She started pounding on the walls. The thing was coming for her. She was going to die here. She was going to die alone.

"That won't help." Jinx turned. The voice in her head quieted. She saw a boy in the corner. He had red hair and green eyes. For some reason, though she'd never admit it, she felt calm around this stranger. More so than she did with the other patients in her hall.

She didn't feel like glaring. Instead, she just curled up in the corner, and started to sob. She had her bangs brushed so they were hanging in her face, a habit she'd gotten ever since she got her cat eyes.

Out of the corner of her vision, she saw the boy frowning. He shuffled over to sit next to her. "Hey," he put his hand on her shoulder. "What's wrong?"

She started laughing hysterically through her tears. She shot to her feet and started walking around the room. "What isn't wrong?! We're in an asylum. An asylum!"

The boy just watched her. "What are you here for anyways?" She asked him. She was genuinely curious as to why he'd be here. He seemed like a normal kid. With parents. With emotions. With a life.

He looked down with a confused expression on his face. "That's the thing. I don't remember. I just have these weird times when I black out. When I wake up I'm in the hospital and covered in cuts..."

She laughed. It seemed genuinely funny. "Really?" He looked up at her, confirmation on his face. "Yep..."

There was a silence. She didn't hear the voice in her head anymore. It was quiet. She liked it. Maybe she could stand talking to this kid more often.

"So what's your name?" He asked. "Mine's Wally."

"Jinx."

Jinx's dreams weren't the best. She woke up screaming and crying, her heart beating like a drum in her chest.

Her head started hurting. The screaming in her ears grew louder. She wanted to die. The walls started moving. Something sticky squished beneath her hands. She looked at them.

Blood.

She started crying, shutting her eyes. All the sudden she couldn't breath. Her head was spinning. She felt dizzy. Help me. Her hands went to her throat. Kill me.

"Jinx!"

She collapsed on the floor. Her breathing was uneven and her hands were shaky. She was shivering, but the voices were gone now.

"Wally?" Her eyes weren't focusing quite right. Wally stood in front of her. Her blurry vision only saw the red hair that guaranteed it was him.

Jinx felt hands pull her up. "Geez, Jinx." She heard his voice. "You scared me there. You okay?"

"How are you here...?" She heard her voice. Everything sounded like an echo.

"I'm fast."

Her vision cleared, and she could hear him better now. "Idiot," she muttered. Now we're both going to get in trouble..."

He smiled a little. She liked it when he smiled. "What? Can't I visit my girlfriend?"

"Not in the middle of the night."

"But--"

She raised an eyebrow. He sighed. "It's not like they'll catch me!"

Jinx nodded grudgingly. "Yeah but still."

He smiled. "Hey, I got you something," he said excitedly. He pulled out a small pink box.

"I swear if this is a prank I'll--"

"Shh. It's just a music box."

Jinx stared. She didn't ask him out loud, but She really didn't know what a music box was. Was it some sort of instrument? Hey, in her defense,
She lived in an asylum. She didn't get out much.

"Where'd you get it?"

"I'm fast."

Jinx rolled her eyes. "That's your excuse for everything."

Wally wasn't listening. He was opening the box and was winding it up. She heard music. It reminded her of something. She must've heard it as a little girl...

She made an attempt at a small smile. She didn't do that often.

Jinx leaned her head on Wally's shoulder as they sat on the bed. He played the music box until she fell asleep that night.

No nightmares. No screaming. No blood. No chains. Just peace. (Peace and love~)

(If our love's insanity why are you my clarity)

(Hehehe)
