A Talk And A Drink (Your POV)
Another two minutes later you are still upset about what's going on when your thoughts are interrupted
"Bluejay?" you hear Maverick remark. You do not want to talk about your feelings right now.
"Sir you shouldn't be here," you respond as you look up and wipe the tears off your face.
"Well I'm not leaving until I've helped and Scott told me what was going on anyway," he responds, obviously not wanting to leave until you feel better. It's a good thing that he is insistent.
"Thanks, sir but,"
"Please call me Maverick," he cuts you off because he is tired of being called sir or captain. A feeling that you understand. You have always preferred to go by your call sign as well.
"As I was saying Maverick they don't understand the fact that I worked hard to get here," you respond. You are suddenly hit by a brick called doubt. Hopefully the doubt doesn't show.
"Let's make them understand then," he responds with an air of confidence. It's almost cocky.
"But first let me buy you a drink,"
"Is that a good idea?" your expression brightens at the thought of getting a drink with the captain.
"If it wasn't I wouldn't have suggested it," he retorts which makes you giggle. A fair statement.
"Thanks, Maverick," you respond as you get up. You both head back to the classroom. Two minutes later you've made it to the classroom. You have a little confidence in your step now that Maverick has had a chat with you.
"Thank you, Ice," Maverick remarks basically dismissing him.
"No problem Mav," Iceman responds as he shuffles out of the classroom. An hour and thirty minutes later you are getting ready to meet Maverick when there is a knock on the door.
"Come in," you respond. Thirty seconds later Max and Scott have made it to the kitchen
"There is some scuttle but going around that you are going out tonight do you mind if we join you?" Scott gets down to business. You can tell that he wants to compliment you. Hopefully Maverick won't mind.
"Sure," you respond because of the more the merrier.
"You look good in Navy whites," Max gives you a complement
"Yeah but you look better than I do," you retort deflecting the complement back to him. You've never like those kinds of compliments.
"Anyway let's go," You wish the time would go quicker. Thirty minutes later you've all arrived. You are looking for Maverick but your search doesn't last long.
"Captain," Scott remarks as he approaches you.
"Please call me Maverick," He responds. He is telling Scott what he told you. Again it makes sense.
"(Y/N) I have something for you," he holds out a notebook.
"Thanks, Maverick," you are brimming with happiness because he has copied your notes. At least you will not have to start again.
"Now let's get a drink." Forty seconds later you've both approached the bar and you are struggling to make up your mind because you normally don't drink alcohol.
"Hmm," you are deep in thought because you want to make a good choice
"You should try the scotch," Maverick remarks. He can see you are struggling to make up your mind
"Sure," you reply because you appreciate the suggestion
"Two please," he asks. The bartender obviously knows his order because he pours the drinks without Maverick telling him what you both want.
"So (Y/N) why did you join the Navy?" Maverick asks so he could get to know you better
"To prove to my dad that someone in the family could be a Naval Aviator instead of an AF pilot. It happened because he is in the AF and he said some things," you respond giving him the basic version.
"Wait your dad would be wing Commander (Y/L/N) right?" he remarks obviously recognising your last name.
"Yes that's right," you respond mildly surprised
"That explains why your dad thinks nothing of Naval Aviation," Maverick remarks making you giggle. It's a good thing that you have some things to talk about.
"Oh, crap Scott's found the karaoke machine," you remark because Scott has a bad track record with karaoke.
"What do you mean by that?" Maverick asks. He is a little confused. You giggle at his confusion.
"You'll find out it three seconds," you respond. You hope it won't turn out like the other times Scott has done karaoke. He starts singing your favourite song coming home by Shepard. You can't help but smile at your predicament.
"He's had practice," you remark as you take a sip of your drink.
"Anyway I have another surprise for you all tomorrow," he responds cryptically. You get a bad feeling.
"Hey Sir, (Y/N)" Max says as he sits down on the chair next to you.
"I will leave you two," Maverick remarks as he gets up.
"Oh Maverick thanks for the drink," you respond. You take another sip.
"So what was that about?" Max asks
"Let's just say he thought it would be a good idea," you reply to the question vaguely because you are not sure why Maverick offered you a drink.
"Hey (Y/N) you should come join me," Scott calls you out. You finish your drink and decide to join him even though you are not the greatest singer on the planet but you know how to have fun.
