Chapter 5 - The Commissioner

Strongarm and Kiki pulled up to the CCPD's Headquarters. The entire building was on lockdown as police, firefighters, and ambulances surrounded the building, covering the city block. Swat teams were on standby as citizen passerby's crowded around, trying to get a good look at what was happening.

The two female cops exited the vehicle, making their way through the crowd. They showed their badges to one of the officers keeping watch as he let the two pass the caution tape. They made their way through the crime scene, spotting a yellow tent with communication equipment inside. They stepped into the shade, meeting up with Bumblebee and Jazz who were chatting away with Prowl.

"Sirs," Strongarm greeted with a salute, Kiki quickly followed suit.

The three men looked up, halting their conversation as they met the female's gaze. Prowl was the first to speak up, waving his hand at the pair. "At ease,"

The two of them lowered their arms as they joined in with the group. "What's happening?"

"We've got ourselves a hostage situation," Prowl explained.

"The Commissioner?" Kiki guessed, although she highly doubted it involved anybody else.

"Who else would it be." Prowl answered with a quiet scoff.

"The criminals are holding the Commissioner, and his secretary in his office. They got the whole floor covered but the rest of the building has been evacuated," Bumblebee explained, pointing out the monitors of the security cameras. "However there's always one or two stragglers hiding somewhere."

"Do we have some sort of plan to rescue the Commissioner?" Strongarm asked.

"I formulated one out," Jazz spoke up. "It wouldn't help to have some extra hands."

"What's the plan?" Kiki questioned, crossing her arms.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, absolutely not, recruit," Prowl stepped forward, pointing a finger at the green eyed girl. "It's only your first day, you're completely out of your league."

"All due respect, sergeant, this is what I trained for!" Kiki replied in protest, hand over her heart.

"I'm not risking it," Prowl proclaimed. "End of discussion."

There was a stiff silence after that as Prowl turned back to the monitors, keeping an eye on the security cameras.

Kiki narrowed her eyes, her mind was deep in thought as she clutched her hand into a fist. She couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Jazz said so himself, he'll need the extra hands to help pull his plan off. She relaxed her hand, returning her gaze from the floor towards her boss.

"I'm going." She spoke.

She watched his head flinch as Prowl turned his head to face her. "Excuse me?"

"I said, I'm going." Kiki repeated.

Prowl's expression grew dark as he stepped forward pointing a finger at her. "Now you listen--"

"I'll stay out of the way," She quickly continued, taking a slight step back as Prowl froze where he stood. "I'll only go in to evacuate the remaining civilians that are hiding in the building."

Strongarm came to her side, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I'll keep an eye out for her, sir. She's my partner after all."

Prowl stared at the two of them for a brief moment, processing what was spoken to him. But before he could protest, to his, and Kiki's surprise, Bumblebee stepped forward as well, placing a steady hand on Kiki's other shoulder.

"Me too," he nodded. "We could really use her help."

Prowl exchanged glances between the three of them before he sighed, rubbing his eyelids. "Fine, I'll allow it," his voice suddenly turned stern as he looked back up at the trio, his eyes cold. "But it's on you three if something goes wrong."

"Understood, sir." Strongarm acknowledged.

With a heavy pout, Prowl turned his back on the group, focusing his attention back on the monitors. The four officers exited the tent, stepping back into the California sunlight.

"You guys didn't have to do that you know," Kiki spoke. "Standing up for me like that."

"It's not that we didn't have to, we wanted to," Bumblebee replied, smiling a little as he crossed his arms.

"Prowl can be hard to get to sometimes. You really need to show him that you're ready for a task like this," Strongarm added. "He takes situations like these very seriously."

Kiki looked at the pair with a surprised look on her face. Sure, she was happy that Strongarm, her partner backed her up, even though they've only known each over for a few hours, but she was more surprised at the fact that Bumblebee, the person who had captured her attention when she first moved here, willingly stood up for her.

"Your heart is in the right place, Kiki, and I honor that, we all do," said Bumblebee. "Now it's time to go out there and prove your metal. Think you can do that?"

Kiki formed her lips into a grin, her hand forming into a fist again. "Heck yeah I can!"

Bumblebee's smile brightened even more before he looked towards his partner. "What's your plan, Jazz?"

The black man clapped his hands together, rubbing them together. "Okay, it goes like this..."

******

The plan was simple enough. Jazz, Bumblebee, Strongarm, and Kiki would go inside the building, making their way up to the top floor of the building where the Commissioner's office was located. Along the way, they would pick up any remaining civilians that were hiding from the criminals and Kiki would redirect them back to the lobby. Once all the civilians were accounted for, keeping Prowl's word, the recruit would then make her way back down to help the civilians while the rest of the team worked on rescuing the Commissioner.

While Kiki thought about possibly sticking around to help, she didn't want to get another chewing out from her sergeant. Strongarm may say it's just tough love, but Kiki was having trouble seeing that.

Armed and ready, the four officers slowly made their way into the lobby. With the entire floor, and the majority of the building completely empty, it felt like a ghost town.

The floors Prowl confirmed to be completely empty were the first 10 floors or so of the building, so the group took the elevator of the 10th floor to save time.

They each held a gun in their hand, keeping it faced to the floor as they exited the elevator and made a dash to the other end of the room, making their way up the stairs through the emergency exit, quickly and quietly.

Jazz raised his fist in the air when they reached the 11th floor door, signalling the others to stop. He reached over, gently turning the door handle as he pushed the door open slowly. He quickly peeked outside before moving his head back into the hall, looking over at Kiki and waving her over.

The ginger haired girl moved over from behind Strongarm, making her way up the stairs as Jazz stepped over to the side, allowing her to pass.

Before Kiki could go out, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned her head around to meet Bumblebee's gaze. "Give us a shout if you see any danger," He spoke quietly.

The girl nodded in reply as Bumblebee lowered his glove covered hand away from her. Now knowing that Bumblebee would be looking out for her, it filled her with determination.

Kiki stepped into the space, scanning the floor as her gun trailed her every move. She listened for any sounds that would seem out of place. Rattling, quivering, anything that would indicate a terrified hider.

She slowly turned, spotting a shaking body huddled under a desk. Kiki slowly made her way over towards the figure, kneeling down.

Her sudden presence scared the woman, making her yelp before she covered her mouth with her hands.

"It's okay, don't worry," Kiki cooed quietly. "I'm getting you out of here."

"O-o-o-kay." The woman nodded with a quiver.

Kiki helped the woman out of the desk, guiding her back to the stairs as Strongarm showed her the way down. Kiki stepped back outside, making one more scan around the floor.

When she didn't hear anything, Kiki raised her gun up. "Clear."

She rejoined the group as they continued the process for the next couple of floors. From floors 12 to 15, nothing. Then 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th floors were all empty as well.

Where was everyone? Had everyone else been evacuated to begin with?

But it wasn't until they were nearing the top of the stairs towards the 20th and top floor of the CCPD Headquarters, when they heard something. A series of voices.

Jazz rose his hand again, signalling everyone to stop. He tip toed his way over to the door, pressing his back against the wall next to it. He stretched his neck up, taking a quick look through the small window on the door before quickly ducking back.

"What is it?" Strongarm asked with a whisper.

"2 guards," Jazz spoke softly, displaying the numbers with his fingers. "They have 4 hostages huddled up just in front of them."

"Alright," Bumblebee spoke up before looking over to the two female officers. "Strongarm, Kiki, hold here. Jazz and I will take care of the guards."

The two of them nodded in reply as Bumblebee placed his gun back into its pouch that was strapped to his right thigh. He reached over to his back, grabbing a rod as he pushed a button in the middle of the device, and the ends stretched out, forming a staff.

Kiki's eyes widened at the sight. She had never seen such a weapon used by a police officer before. Bumblebee must have a insanely high level of clearance if he's allowed to use a weapon like that. But considering the situation they were in, she supposed it was understandable.

The two lieutenants covered their mouths and nose with some sort of mask. Jazz gave him a thumbs up as Bumblebee reached over, turning the door handle with up most care.

The door silently pushed open, the sounds of the hostages quivering and crying in the presence of their captors masking out the noise of the creaking door.

The two of them stepped in swiftly and struck their opponents. Jazz whacked the one to the left in the head with his gun, Bumblebee whacking his opponent in the back with his staff. The two captors began to topple forward but the officers grabbed the back collar of their vests, catching them from their fall.

They dragged their bodies to the side as Kiki and Strongarm quietly moved in, releasing the hostages from their bonds.

"Is everyone alright?" Strongarm asked with a whisper.

Everyone either nodded or murmured a quiet yes.

"Kiki, get everyone downstairs," said Bumblebee. "The rest of us can take it from here. You've well today."

"You got it," Kiki nodded with a soft smile before looking over at the group of workers. "Alright, everyone proceed down to the lobby. Quietly."

They all did as told, one by one the workers made their way down the stairs as Kiki watched them to make sure everyone had left.

As she did so, Bumblebee, Jazz, and Strongarm were about to turn the corner towards the Commissioner's, just as Kiki was stepping out the door until the three of them froze, right before instantly backing off and hiding behind the wall.

"Wait!" The platinum blonde hissed under his breath.

"What?" Kiki asked, poking her head back into the hall.

"We got a problem," Jazz answered. "There's another hostage with the commissioner."

Kiki slowly made her way back into the room, taking a peek around the corner of the wall and peering through the glass wall a head of her.

The Commissioner, his brown hair all nice and combed, wore a navy suit with a red tie, sat calmly in his leather chair at his desk, one of the gunman aiming his weapon at the man as he talked to him.

But huddled in the corner of his office was a small tiny body, it looked like a little boy.

Kiki's eyes tensed at the sight as she quickly pulled back, kneeling in front of the trio.

"There's a kid in there!"

"Prowl, this just got a lot more complicated," Jazz spoke through the walkie-talkie that was strapped to his vest. "Commissioner Magnus' son, Joshua, is in there with him."

"Aw crap," the sergeant cursed in reply.

"We can't go in and attack without risking Joshua's safety." said Bumblebee.

"Maybe you guys can't," Kiki spoke, scanning the ceiling as she spotted an open air vent. "But maybe I can."

The trio followed her gaze up to the vent. Their facial expressions were more than enough for Kiki to figure out what their response was going to be.

"I get it," Bumblebee spoke with realization, cupping his chin. "You could use the air vents to get to Joshua and pull him out!"

"Absolutely not!" Prowl's voice broke through the static. "Your orders were to evacuate the hostages and NOT intervene with the gunman."

"I know my orders, sir," Kiki replied. "Which is why I'm getting the hostages out; All of them."

"Do you really want me to tell Commissioner Magnus' that you risked the life of his child for his own safety?" Bumblebee quickly added.

There was a quick silence in the room as Kiki shot a surprised glance over at Bumblebee, her mouth gaped open slightly. He was sticking up for her, again!

When Prowl's voice cracked back in through the communication device, he sighed, and he did not sound happy. "Fine. But if anything happens to you or the kid, it's on you, recruit."

"Understood, sergeant." Kiki replied before cutting off her walkie-talkie.

"Let's do this quickly," Strongarm spoke up. "We don't know how much longer those two can last in there."

Bumblebee nodded as he sat up from his crouched position against the wall, walking over towards Kiki. "Need a boost?"

She could feel her face slowly turning red ever so slightly, but she quickly shrugged the emotions off with a firm nod. "That'd be great."

Focus on the mission, Kiki! There's no time for all this love and crushing stuff. Get serious about this!

Bumblebee nodded as he knelt down, putting his hands together. Kiki placed both hands on his shoulders as she stepped up, placing her right boot on his hands.

"Ready?" he asked with cautioned.

"Yeah," She answered with a quick nod.

Bumblebee's expression turned serious as he used the strength in his arms to push Kiki up into the air with ease. Man, he was strong! The ginger haired girl reached her hands out, grabbing the sides of the opening on the vent. With the help of one more push from her feet with Bumblebee, she pulled her upper body into the vent, and crawled the rest of her lower half inside.

"You good?" Bumblebee's voice echoed through the small space.

Kiki stuck her hand out, giving the trio a thumbs up.

"According to the building's schematics on my phone," Strongarm spoke. "Go straight, then turn left at the first intersection, turn right again, then another left there should be a slight slide. Go straight again until you make another left and you're there."

"Got'cha," Kiki spoke before she began her journey through the vents.

She was just surprised that she was able to fit inside this thing! She just be smaller than she thought she was. Kiki followed Strongarm's directions, crawling against the metal floor. She only hoped that she wasn't too loud for the gunman to hear her. But then again, if she was, she would have heard gunshots being fired by now.

Kiki found the small slide, carefully gliding down it ever so slightly. She made one more turn, and found the end of the trail. She peeked through the cell like door, spotting Joshua instantly. He was huddled in a ball against the wall, crying his poor eyes out.

Kiki sulked at the sight. She didn't like seeing kids like this, and even more so when it was a terrifying situation like your own father being held at gun point.

Magnus and the gunman were talking calmly announced themselves when Kiki nervously licked her lips, quietly speaking to catch the kid's attention.

"Pssh," She whispered. "Joshua!"

The boy slowly stopped crying as he looked up to the side, his puffy red eyes meeting Kiki's green eyes.

"My name is Kiki, I'm getting you out of here," She spoke calmly. "Do you want to get out of here?"

The boy sniffled before speaking. "I do, but my dad---"

"Don't worry, my friends are just outside his office. They can help him," I assured the boy. "But they can't do that if you're stuck in here with that guy, so I need you to trust me, okay?"

He nodded slowly, whipping the tears from his eyes.

Kiki raised her hand, pushing it against the cell door of the vent. Good, it was unlocked! She gently pushed it open, slowly making her way out of the vent. She was glad that there was a giant leather couch blocking her and the kid from the gunman. She made her way out of the vent and held the door open for Joshua.

"Hurry," I whispered, gently pushing him as I helped him into the vent.

"Thank you," She spoke softly.

Kiki smiled back at him as she gently closed the door behind him, taking a moment to watch him begin to crawl through the vent before placing her back against the leather couch.

But what about her? Should she head back after him?

"Just take it easy there, champ," A voice spoke, which Kiki quickly assumed it was Magnus. "Nobody needs to get hurt--"

"Shut it, old man!" The gunman yelled. "I'm tired of listening to you!"

"Guys, you should get in here," Kiki spoke quietly through the walkoe-talkie. "Joshua is out of the room."

"We're on our way," Bumblebee replied through the static.

"What was that?" The gunman suddenly spoke up.

Kiki cringed after hearing that. The stupid walkie-talkie was too loud! With a annoyed sigh, and not being able to figure out what else to do, Kiki took her gun out of her pouch, turning off the safety feature as she sprang up from her hiding spot and aimed her gun at the criminal.

"Don't move!" She yelled.

Both the gunman and Commissioner Magnus jumped from her sudden appearance. The gunman whipped around to meet her gaze and the nuzzle of her gun. The gunman had a strange tattoo on his arm. Some sort of purple insignia.

"You came out of nowhere," he spoke. "Where's the brat?"

"Out of harms way," Kiki answered, keeping a tight grip on her weapon. "Like the Commissioner should be."

"The Commissioner isn't going anywhere," the gunman threatened. Kiki quickly glanced over to the side towards the glass doors. She saw Bumblebee and Jazz making their way towards them, but the sounds of their footsteps couldn't be heard quite yet as she focused her attention back on the gunman.

Strongarm must have stayed behind the get Joshua to safety.

"Drop your weapon," Kiki ordered. "Now!"

The gunman growled under his breath, doing as told as he crouched down to his knees, lowering the weapon and placing it on the floor.

"You alright Commissioner Magnus?" Kiki asked, glancing at head honcho of the CCPD.

"I am well, officer." he answered with a nod. His voice had a baritone sound to it, with a touch of authority.

She slowly made her way around the couch, walking towards the gunman as she kicked his gun out of his sight. Then suddenly, he started laughing.

"What are you laughing at?" Kiki asked him, looking down right confused.

"I'm not going down that easy!" He shouted, suddenly taking off his jacket to reveal a bomb strapped to his chest! And the timer had already long since begun with 10 seconds remaining!

"We got a bomb!" Kiki yelped.

The gunman laughed, but not before suddenly getting electrocuted. A electrical shock coursed through his body as he gagged, collapsing to the floor. Bumblebee stood tall, towering over the man with a firm grip of his staff, the top end of it giving off a quick electrical buzz of energy.

Bumblebee reached down, turning the gunman over to his backside. The bomb had been disabled from the electrical shock!

The two of them sighed a huge breath of relief as Jazz stepped in, assisting the Commissioner. "Everyone good?"

"We're good Jazz," Bumblebee nodded.

Bumblebee and Kiki exchanged glances with each other, sharing a short chuckle of nervous relief.

"That was way too close," Kiki sighed. "Quick thinking."

"Thanks for keeping him busy until we could get in here," Bumblebee thanked. "Once again, you've surprised me with your bravery."

Kiki couldn't help but blush a little after hearing that, rubbing the back of her neck.

"If we're done here, I say we split from this scene," Jazz spoke up. "And get rid of this scum."

"Couldn't agree more," Bumblebee nodded as he brought out a pair of cuffs. "Kiki, help me with this?"

"Sure," She nodded.

The two of them removed the bomb from the gunman's chest before handcuffing him. The five of them made their way back down the building, crossing the lobby as they exited the building.

But as they did so, the gunman slowly began to stir, and his behaviour turned south real quick as he began to fight from Bumblebee's grip.

"Let go of me!" He yelled.

"Jazz, get Magnus out of here!" Bumblebee ordered.

Jazz quickly escorted the Commissioner away from the scene as Bumblebee and the gunman engaged in a tug of war with his hand cuffs.

Kiki hadn't realized how tough this guy really was because the gunman snapped the chains of his bonds, freeing himself! He head-butted Bumblebee in the head, making the officer stumble back as he made a bee-line for Kiki.

The two of them wrestled for the bomb as the man shoved her down to the ground, stepping on her stomach as he ran back towards the building, pulling a lighter out of his pants pocket.

"Death to the Autobots!" He screamed, lightning the fuse of the bomb as he tossed it into the lobby. "LONG LIVE THE DECEPTICONS!"

The bomb exploded, a huge puff of smoke spewing everywhere as shattered glass flew the air.

"KIKI!" A voice screamed.

Without even realizing it, Bumblebee pushed Kiki back down to the ground as he used his body to shield her from the falling glass.

While a fairly large piece sliced right into his back shoulder.
