Chapter 12 - Lab Partner
"Alright, Bisk, old buddy let's get you down to your cell," Jazz sauntered in as escorted Bisk out of the interrogation room.
"Wait, I gave you a written confession!" He stated.
"That doesn't mean you're off the hook, my guy," Jazz retaliated with a shake of his head as he led him across the office space.
Bumblebee and KiKi were chilling around his desk as they both watched the display unfold. The lieutenant leaned back into his chair, hands behind his head with a sigh. Any other day this would seem fine, but on your supposed day off? Not likely. Kiki wanted to get home just as bad as Bumblebee did, but they couldn't leave until Bisk was locked away in his cell.
So the duration between now and their freedom solely relied on Jazz. If he can quickly convince Bisk to stop talking and keep walking.
"But can it at least lower my sentence like you said it would?" Bisk pleaded as his blue eyes locked on to Kiki, the sweat from his vibrant red hair beading down his face. "Tell them, Lady!"
Bumblebee scoffed at the order, though not to get on Kiki's bad side. "Go a head, tell them," He waved his hand at her.
"While yes, it lowers your sentence. Statistically you're still going to prison," Kiki explained as she crossed her arms over her chest with a smirk. "For quite a long time I might add,"
"For trying to steal private property," Jazz added.
"Don't forget assaulting not one, but two police officers," Bumblebee quickly added as he counted the charges on his fingers.
"So once again, a very long time," Kiki stated.
"Can I still make my phone call?" Bisk asked shyly.
"Cell first, phone call later," Jazz answered as he pulled him forward, moving along as the pair left the office and up the stairs.
Bumblebee turned in his chair, stretching his arms out as a yawn escapes his lips. "I can't wait to go back home,"
"Catch up on some sleep?" Kiki pondered a guess as she glanced over at him, leaning against his desk.
"It's called a Lazy Sunday for a reason, Kiki," Bumblebee managed a cheeky smile. "What is your idle Lazy Sunday?"
Kiki hummed curiously, the question peeking her interest. "Depends on my mood, I suppose, what do you do?"
"I sleep in, make a big brunch, put on my favourite shows on the TV and take a nap on the couch," He sighed as he daydreamed of that couch.
"Classic. Sounds like what my dad does except he falls asleep before he can turn the TV on," Kiki laughed at the memory.
"That reminds me, I gotta call my dad later, haven't been down to visit him and mom for a while," Bumblebee's eyes lit up at the sudden realization as he pulled out his phone, either making a reminder or sending a text.
"Do they live here in the city?" Kiki asked.
"Nah they got a ranch out in the country side outside the city," Bumblebee shook his head with a soft smile. "After my dad retired from the military, he started a rescue farm animals and retired race horses,"
"That sounds amazing!" Kiki beamed. "Did you hung out with the animals a lot?"
"Almost every day after school for years on end. When I was younger my mom had to practically pry me away cause I couldn't stop hugging the chickens," Bumblebee couldn't help but laugh as he pulled up an old photo on his phone and showed it off to Kiki.
There was a baby Bumblebee gently hugging a chicken with the brightest little smile on his face.
"That is so adorable," Stared at it in awe.
"Are you two done sharing childhood stories?" Prowl appeared before them, coughing into his fist to catch their attention. "You're both still technically on the clock,"
"Ah, we're technically on our day off," Bumblebee countered, pointing a finger at his boss though not trying to sound so forward to piss him off.
"Jazz just took Bisk upstairs to the cell blocks, so by definition our job is done, correct, Captain?" Kiki raised a brow at the captain.
"Yes, a fair point, Kiki," Prowl nodded. He paused momentarily and Bumblebee took it as his sign to stand up from his desk.
"In that case, Kiki and I will be on our way and we'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning," Bumblebee proclaimed as he waved a playful salute towards the Captain.
"But while you're both here," Prowl started as Bumblebee turned his back to him.
"There's the but," Bumblebee sighed tiredly as he turned back to face him. "There's always a but,"
"Always?" Kiki asked as she shot a confused look between the pair.
"99% of the time," Prowl responded with a blank stare.
"The sole 1% is when he hasn't had his morning coffee yet and he's too grumpy for his own good," Bumblebee joked.
"Lieutenant. . ." Prowl called to him cautiously with a stern look, though there was the smallest hint of a smile on his face.
"Sorry boss," Bumblebee chuckled the joke off as he rubbed the back of his neck apologetically. "What's up?"
"Before you leave I'd like for you to drop off this piece of evidence down to Fixit to have him analyze it," Prowl explained as he handed Bumblebee a large ziplock evidence bag.
Taking a look at the bag, Kiki discovered that inside it was the weapon that Bisk fired at her when they ran into each other in the basement of the concert venue. It didn't look like any ordinary weapon she had seen back at the academy or during her training. Military grade perhaps?
"Since Kiki is here, why not show her the lab and introduce her to him?" Prowl suggested.
"You got it," Bumlebee smiled at the idea as he motioned for Kiki to follow him. "Come on, I'll show you the way,"
Kiki quickly waved goodbye to Prowl before jogging after Bumblebee as they both left the office floor towards the foyer where the elevators were located. She didn't recall seeing an elevator lobby in the main entrance of the building. Perhaps this one was private from the public visitors to the precinct.
The doors opened and the pair stepped inside. Bumblebee pressed one of the lower level buttons as the doors closed, quiet elevator music chimed through the old speakers.
"This elevator is used for direct access to the cell blocks, evidence vault, and our forensics labs," Bumblebee explained. "I think you and Fixit would get along great. He's into the whole video game stuff too,"
"Have you known him long?" Kiki asked.
"Actually, he was the more recent member to our team before we got the call about you," Bumblebee clarified. "One of the top of his class at MIT,"
"MIT, eh? What inspired him to join the Crown City Police Department?" Kiki asked curiously.
A degree from MIT meant you could get a job practically anywhere. Top government companies and organizations, with all the perks that guarantees a stable job and income. At least that's what her government civics class at college taught her.
The elevator indicator beeped as the doors opened to reveal the lab. Tables were lined with computers and all sorts of fancy equipment. Another table lined with evidence from another case caught Kiki's eye as she found a laptop broken down with each part carefully categorized and labeled.
Fast typing caught her ear as she looked over to see a short ginger brown haired man with large orange glasses staring intently at a computer screen. He was mumbling quietly to himself as he ran through various numbers and equations.
"Watch this," Bumblebee whispered softly in her ear it almost startled her and gave them away as he lifted his finger to his lips to silently tell her to stay quiet.
Hand over her mouth she watched as Bumblebee tip toed over towards the scientist. Once again mumbling to himself, he was so deep in the zone it was like he was mentally blocking out every other sound around him. Not even the elevator chime alerted them to the officers presence.
When he was close enough, Bumblebee slapped his hands onto his shoulders and the scientist made the most girlish scream Kiki had ever heard. "AHH!"
"What'cha doing there, buddy?!" Bumblebee smiled brightly.
"Lieutenant Bumblebee!" The scientist stuttered as he adjusted his glasses. "I thought I asked you to stop doing that. I'm in the middle of a very important assignment!"
Bumblebee crossed his buff arms over his chest, shooting the man a smirk with a questionable glare. "You're calculating the best pizza points by cheese texture again, aren't you?"
"Yes, how did you know?!" The smaller man gawked at the prediction.
"Cause we talked about this two weeks ago and we both agreed Tony's Pizza is supreme," Bumblebee stated.
"Yes that may be true, however, Tony's Pizza is one of the farther joints from our building, meaning the estimated time of delivery could expose and deter the cheese taste quality!" He argued.
"I kinda prefer Antonio's Pizza," Kiki shrugged, budding in on the conversation. "Tony's crust is too thick for me so I hardly finish even one slice,"
Both men looked over towards her, though the scientist was most surprised by her appearance. "Oh, my apologies I didn't know you were here,"
"Fixit, I'd like to introduce you to our new team member, Kiki," Bumblebee motioned towards her. "Kiki, this is our team's forensic scientist, Fixit,"
"Oh well it's a pleasure to finally make your acquittance, Miss Kiki," Fixit shifted in his seat. "I've heard you've had quite the first week!"
Kiki was half expecting Fixit to stand from his chair, so when he pushed on a joystick and his chair began to move, she had to stop her jaw from dropping as Fixit wheeled over towards her in his electric wheelchair. Wearing a clean lab coat, underneath with an orange hoodie and brown cargo pants with matching crocks for his feet.
He extended her hand towards her. "Welcome to my lab!"
"Thank you, Fixit," Kiki reached out and shook his hand. "It's a pleasure to make your acquittance as well,"
"I didn't startle you did I?" He asked with concern as he motioned his hands around the chair.
"No, no, not at all!" She quickly waved it off as a flush of embarrassment washed over her cheeks. "I should be the one apologizing to you,"
"Oh, it's quite alright. A lot of people are startled at first when they see my prototype!" He reassured her as he quickly performed a spin around with his chair wheels.
"Prototype?" Kiki raised a brow at the scientist.
"Fixit is working on the first fully functional AI wheelchair," Bumblebee announced like a proud father.
"AI?" Kiki repeated.
"Yes, indeed! Would you like a demonstration?" He asked.
Kiki nodded her head as Fixit beamed with excitement. He guided his wheelchair over to one of the shelves, presenting it like a gameshow host.
"Observe! Say you need something on the top shelf but can't reach it. Why risk hurting yourself using something, say a stick, to know it down?" He explained. He typed in a series of commands on a touch pad located on the right armrest of the chair. "Wheelie, engage hover mode please!"
The wheels retracted outwards from the side of the chair and turned sideways. They began to spin rapidly as slowly he started hovering in the air! Kiki watched in awe as he soared to the top of the shelf, took a book and pressed a button to lower himself back down.
Kiki applauded the display, stepping closer towards him. "Fixit that was incredible!"
"A remarkable feat of engineering! Of course it's still in beta testing, but one day I want to make these available to injured war veterans or anyone that may need them," He proclaimed.
"Glad to see your work is coming along, Fixit, but unfortunately, that's not why we're here," Bumblebee pressed on as he walked around the table to rejoin the group. He pulled out the zip lock and extended it to Fixit. "Boss wants you to take a look at it,"
"The weapon from the Rear Axle case! Yes, I'll start analyzing it right away!" Fixit snatched it immediately from Bumblebee's fingers as he wheeled over towards a spare diagnostics table.
"We'll leave you to it then," Bumblebee sighed as he watched him work for a moment. It was like witnessing a kid at a candy store. He looked over towards Kiki, playfully punching her shoulder. "Come on, Kiki, let's head on home,"
"Time for our Lazy Sunday," She smiled as she spared one last look at Fixit before following after the lieutenant.

Bisk leaned against the bar doors, his arms dangling from the openings as an officer from the desk quietly read the evening paper. Feet up on his desk as he leaned back into his chair without a care in the world. He was ready to go home, and Bisk was ready to blow this popsicle stand.
"Alright, Bisk, since you've been such a good boy, you can get your phone call now," Another officer entered the room with a plate of doughnuts as he set it down on the desk.
Bisk rolled his eyes. "Finally," he breathed an annoyed sigh of relief.
The officer brought over the phone and handed Bisk the ringer. He dialed the numbers one by one carefully before impatiently waiting as it rang. The opposite end click, indicating someone had answered.
"Hey it's me-- Yeah, I'm here, are you gonna bail me out or what?-- Alright, alright, not trying to be pushy. I'm just asking is all!-- Alright, I'll sit tight then,"
Bisk hung up the phone and moved away from the bar door. As the officer returned the phone to the desk, he noticed a slight spring in Bisk's step as he walked over to the opposite end of the cell, taking a seat on the bench.
"You seem happy all of a sudden," He commented.
"Officer, by this time tomorrow, I'll be bailed and free of this joint," he proclaimed as he laid back and closed his eyes, dreaming of what was to come. "Just you wait,"

AN//: Wow. Updated this bad boy for the first time in 5 years. I should get a medal!
In all honesty, sorry about the massive hiatus in updating this and many of my other works. College was the higher priority at the time, dealt with some things after that that seriously affected with my mental health so I decided to take a break from posting all together for a while and now here we are in a global pandemic.
With me having a lot more time on my hands I've been writing some smaller things here and there for myself so I'm hoping to transfer that energy over here to stand finish old works and starting new content. I know this one was highly requested for an update so please let me know what your thoughts are and how much you've enjoy it!
I want to try and finish telling Kiki's story, whilst still managing my health and daily life outside of the site, so because of this, FOTB won't be as long as I had originally planned back in 2016. I'll still make sure all the major plot bits I want are told in a way that I hope is super engaging to you all and enjoyable to read!
Thank you so much for your patience and thank you for continuing to read my works after all these years, your positive comments have really helped brighten my days especially now. Stay safe!
