Part Four - Chapter Four
Without warning, a man within a car containing his luggage, his wife and son, pressed down angrily on his horn. It blared loudly throughout the entire town as he entered, the car sputtering up the hill. Cursing loudly as spittle flew out of his mouth, the man glared at the people of the town, who generally crowded the streets on Saturday mornings, as they did now.
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!" he spat angrily as he grabbed a beer bottle and threw it at on elderly woman. The woman's eyes widened in fear as her husband pulled her back, protecting her from the shards of glass. People began to clear away from the main street in the town, fear being planted within their souls.
Todomatsu watched from the attic with Osomatsu as this angry man entered the town. The moment he passed by the church, he thrust his hand out the window, giving it a rude hand gesture.
"YOUR CHURCH WON'T DO MY FAMILY ANY GOOD! I'LL BURN THAT BUILDING TO THE GROUND IF I MUST!" he threatened, slapping his hand onto the side of his old car as he drove on.
Osomatsu began to laugh insanely. "That man is mad! Should I go on and make him wreck his vehicle? This town clearly won't want him around for long."
"I can't tell if you're trying to help this town or destroy it..." Todomatsu sighed, backing away from the window as soon as the strange car was out of his sight. "That guy seems dangerous though..."
Osomatsu began to chew on a cigarette. Such things had no effect on his body, since he technically wasn't exactly 'human'. "You know, I'd like to bet that Karamatsu is going to visit that family tomorrow afternoon or evening and ask them why they weren't at his church. That fool."
"Probably," Todomatsu snickered a little. "Everyone goes to the church here. Except for you and me. Karamatsu doesn't seem to care when I'm not there. He probably doesn't even notice when I'm gone."
"Probably doesn't," Osomatsu exhaled contentedly as he pulled the cigarette out of his mouth, rolled it up into a ball, then plopped it back in, chewing on it more. "But, you have me!"
"Yeah, yeah..." Todomatsu muttered, though in reality, he was feeling quite lonely. Having seen a young boy in the car almost made him want to befriend the child. He hadn't had a single friend his entire life. Not a real person, at least. "But will things always be this way...?"
"Huh?" Osomatsu raised an eyebrow as he swallowed the cigarette, coughing a little as it went down. "Aren't you content with this?"
"Yeah...but..." Todomatsu slumped down to the floor, leaning against one of the boxes in the attic. He pulled his knees to his chest, resting his chin on them. The teen wiggled his toes a little, not sure how to explain what he exactly wanted.
"Buuuuuuuuut?" Osomatsu dragged out, his voice growing husky. "Are you saying I'm not enough? Is that what it is? Hmm?"
Osomatsu whipped his suit jacket off and smirked at Todomatsu as he threw his article of clothing to the dusty floor. Arms open wide, he ordered Todomatsu to come to him.
Confused, the teen approached his devilish friend, and was immediately embraced by Osomatsu, pulled into a tight, loving hug.
"You are loved, Todomatsu," Osomatsu rasped quietly into the boy's ear. "Can't you see? You and me have always made a great team. I can't go on without you anymore. So, will you be my sidekick for the rest of your days? I promise that I will never forsake you in the way your own guardian has."
Then, the Todomatsu did something he hadn't done in a very long time: he burst into tears, burying his head in Osomatsu's arms.
Lovingly, Osomatsu ran his fingers through Todomatsu's hair, comforting him with a long, soft, "shshshshshshshshsh..."
Todomatsu exhaled shakily, his knees knocking together. He felt absolutely vulnerable in this situation. Showing emotion was against the rules. Emotions were a sign of weakness, and this boy didn't want to be seen as weak. Yet his tears wouldn't stop flowing. They poured from his red, swollen eyes like a waterfall of doom.
"It's alright..." Osomatsu comforted Todomatsu, pulling him even closer to him. "You don't have to hide yourself anymore, my little Totty. I'm right here for you. So there's nothing you need to worry about, alright? I'm going to be here for you, leading you in all the right directions from now on..."
