Societies Cruel Coerce
Its the middle of the night,
And she is wide awake.
She's had another fright
That caused her pulse to race.
It wasn't a dream,
Or a very bad thought.
It was the world planning schemes
That left her emotions distraught.
Though it's her new worst enemy,
She retreats to the mirror.
And as she gazes in
She sees it couldn't be clearer.
She is not who you think,
Or what you'd hoped she would be.
She is a failure to their plans,
But that's just her being free.
The girl smiling back
Isn't pleased with herself,
But she smiles for your sake
If for no one else.
This isn't what she expected,
This adventure called growing up.
She stumbled along the way
And never really got back up.
She tries though, she does,
To be her very best.
Or least look like she's well
When she's really a complete mess.
Her weakness is a disease,
Pushing and shoving her down.
It's encased her once beautiful mind
And created a permanent frown.
She'd give anything to be happy,
That girl with the fake smile.
But being broken, she'll never get a chance
Because society is vile.
They'll eat her alive, you see,
Before she'd even get the chance
To open her mouth and speak.
Around her they would prance.
Chanting things and calling names
That only make her feel worse
Than she did before she entered
Societies cruel coerce.
This is a poem from my collection of poems, simply called 'collection of poems'. The poet E.H. is a big inspiration to me and this poem is based on a few of hers that i have read recently.
