•chapter ten•

I wake up and slam my hand against my alarm clock, a ringing headache more alarming than the digital clock beside me.

I get myself ready, eat breakfast and kiss my mother goodbye.

When I'm back at the front of Beacon Hills, I feel my stomach churn. Truth is, I don't want to be here right now.

There are so many questions I want to ask and mostly revolving around Liam.

Except I don't get much time to think about what I am going to ask him because before I even know he's there, he grabs my arm and pulls me into a classroom.

"Jolie." He says, his face a light shade of pink. "You can't tell anyone about what you saw last night"

I raise an eyebrow. "Not even a hello."

"Well...uh...hi" he says, awkwardly running his fingers through his hair.

"Look, I kind of don't know how to explain last night..." He starts.

I smirk. "I do. You're a werewolf."

"Wow. That was easy"

"Yeah well...you're not the only werewolf I've seen Liam, it's okay" I say. He smiles briefly before arching his brows.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean I know all about this stuff"

He bites his lip. "Oh....cool"

And at that second a worried Scott comes running in. He stops.

"Her? She's the girl you so desperately needed to talk to?"

I glare at him.

"Scott." I address him. He waves at me sheepishly.

"I didn't even know you guys were friends" he says. Liam shrugs his shoulders.

"Well. You learn something new everyday right?" Liam says.

A light shade of pink flushes on my cheeks for about two seconds.

"When Liam said he saw someone in the woods I half expected it to be some random" Scott says.

I tilt my head. "Nah."

Liam puts his head in his hands.

"Look, the main thing is, just don't tell anyone."

I glare at him.

"Because I would do that"

"That's not what I meant"

"Okay. I get it. Don't worry about it." And I turn around to walk away but he grips my wrist.

"What!" I yell, flustered. He awkwardly wraps his arm around me and attempts a hug.

"Thanks Jo" he whispers. I push myself off him.

"That was a pathetic attempt of a hug...but you're welcome"

And finally I am left to leave.

By the end of the first two periods I'm feeling stressed. I find myself making my way down to the benches where I would usually meet Liam and Mason. I look around and find that they're nowhere to be seen. I glimpse to the far end of the field and spot a yellow school bus and teens piling out of it. I spot Liam's green t shirt making its way to the bus and Mason following slightly behind. I sprint to Mason.

"Hey" I puff, slowing down beside him.

"Hey friend" he says. I smile at him.

"What's all this about?"

I point my manicured middle finger up at the school bus and then to Liam who is marching to them.

"It's Devenford. A prep school. They're here for the Lacrosse game tonight. Oh yeah...and it's Liam's old school."

I raise an eyebrow at Liam's clenched fists, noticing the tips of his claws.

"Why is Liam so mad at his old school. Shouldn't he be welcoming them?" I ask. Mason shrugs.

"I'm guessing there is a distinctive reason Liam left Devenford. They probably piss him off"

I give Mason a smile of gratitude and hurry to Liam. I grab his wrist.

"Liam! Stop." I say, yanking him forward, my school bag slipping off my back.

"What?!?" He growls, his eyes shimmering gold for a second.

"You can't go up there and kick their asses. Did you forget the part where you're a werewolf?" I shout at him.

He glares at me.

"Well maybe let me talk to them and we'll see" he yanks his hand back and walks ahead. I spot Scott and Stiles jogging over.

Scott catches up with me.

"This is not good. This is so not good" I turn my attention to Scott.

"Why? What am I missing?"

"You're about to miss Liam rip them to shreds." Scott runs to Liam.

I catch Liam leap onto the boy (who now looking at him is pretty attractive, but that's not the point). I see Scott and Stiles pull Liam off him. I jump in front of Liam and put myself between him and the boy from Devenford.

"Hey there. Welcome to our spectacular public school. Where you guys will participate in some awesome Lacrosse playing. Whoop!" I tilt my head and smile.

"What are you...his girlfriend?" The guy teases. "Liam needs his girlfriend to save him!" And all the boys around him snicker.

I scoff. "No. Not that! So to the point. Enjoy your stay, and I ask you to...uh...leave the vendettas and personal feelings from before behind. Okay." I say. He smirks.

"What about personal feelings about you...because I have some I'd like to express. On your lips" all the other lacrosse boys laugh and Liam lurches forward, trying to hit him.

"Ew. Won't your fifteen boyfriends behind you get jealous? And I don't dig jerks. If you know what I mean. So keep your PMS to yourselves boys."

I hear Stiles laugh and the boy glares at me, turning around and walking away.

I turn to Liam, who has calmed down.

"Liam. Don't worry about them. They're just jerks"

Sweat beads on Liam's forehead and Stiles and Scott carry him away.

Mason turns to me.

"Wow. That was pretty cool of you to do for Liam." He says. I shrug.

"If Liam even notices" I scoff. Mason raises an eyebrow.

"Was I the only one that saw Liam get even angrier when Brett made a move on you?" Mason exclaims.

"What are you trying to say?" I say, lightly punching Masons arm and walking side by side with him.

"I'm saying he likes you. Duh"

My eyes widen. "Yeah. Sure"

"And you like him too!" Mason smiles. I poke my tongue out to him.

"Have you forgotten the part where I barely know him? I think you have"

"But that doesn't mean you don't dig him. You so do"

My cheeks flush red.

"What about you Mase, Brett's super hot. You dig him right? Just one look at his toned abs and you might mel-"

"Hey! You're going to make me drool!" Mason laughs and I laugh with him.

"Well I think he's into chicks. Jo chicks." He looks down at his feet.

"I think he just wanted to piss Liam off." I state. We sit down on the benches.

"So are you going to the Lacrosse game?" Mason asks. I shrug.

"I was planning on going to get a job at the local veterinarian shop. I'll stay for a bit maybe"

He nods.

"I might. I don't know"

"You are coming Mason. Whether you like it or not"

"Okay. Guess I am"

I laugh.

"I'll drool over Liam, you can drool over Brett. Then we'll supply each other with napkins."

"And you better buy me a hotdog." He exclaims. I nod.

"And you..." I cup my chin and pretend I think. "Buy me an icecream"

"And then maybe we can go flirt with Brett" Mason smiles sweetly. I nudge him.

"I accused him of being on his period. I don't think he'll want to talk to me"

"Well I didn't. So just be there for backup."

I nod.

"And I guess we don't have to flirt with Liam. He's my best friend, that's weird"

"Yeah"

Then the bell rang and we stood up.

"Bye Jo" he says, hugging me. I smile into his shoulder.

"See you Mason. Be here at lunch okay. I might need mental support...I have maths next"

He smiles. "No brainer. Bye"

And with that, we go our separate ways.

I head into the maths classroom an take a seat next to Bianca.

She gives me a small wave.

"Hey Jo" she whispers. I notice the burns around her wrists. Then kind of burn you get when a material rubs against your wrist at a constant fast pace.

"Hey Bianca" I whisper. Miss taps her pen on my table.

"Miss Argent. Full attention please"

I straighten my back and watch the blackboard.

"I'm getting volunteers. Jolie, Meghan and Garret" she calls out. I swing my head around.

"Uh- I didn't volunteer" I argue. Miss grins at me.

"Well now you have. Come on honey"

She grabs my wrist and pulls me to the board to solve an equation. I start writing it, figuring the answer as I go. I notice Garret beside me writing. His hands have stopped writing and his eyes are fixed on Bianca.

"Garret." I say, raising an eyebrow. He turns to face me.

"Are you coming to the lacrosse game tonight" he asks, starting the equation.

"Uh yeah." I answer, placing the chalk back into the chalk holder.

"Is Bianca?" He says, smiling at me sweetly. His blonde hair done perfectly this morning.

"I'm not sure. Why? You fancy her?"

A sour look spreads across his face and he chuckles.

"Yeah- right! I'm with Violet" he nods his head towards Violet who is fiddling with her necklace pendant.

"Oh. Okay" I say, returning to my seat.

Bianca turns to me.

"Why did he mention me?" Bianca whispers.

"He wanted to know if you were going to the Lacrosse game" I whisper back, opening my textbook and copying down the text.

"Oh god." She trembles.

"What? Maybe he likes you."

"No. There's something going on with him and Violet. Something weird"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean," Bianca cocked her head on an angle and bit her lip. "There's something going on."

"What makes you say so?"

"I don't know. It's just I know another wolf, her name is Jesse. Started hanging out with the pair, and I was getting rejected so I hung out with Lee more. Jesse had told me she was going to have a night out with them"

"And...? What's this got to do with anything?"

"Let me finish" Bianca hisses.

"Geez, go on"

"She was found dead in the schools bus zone last week. Stab wounds to the heart."

I crinkle my nose at the story. Wincing at the tale of death.

"A coincidence right. What exactly are you trying to point out?"

"That they could have killed her. Who else?"

"Or she could have been alone and gotten murdered by some hobo" I say, rolling my eyes at the slightly insane theory.

Bianca sits straight in her seat.

"Right. Thanks"

I sit upright myself, copying notes down into my book.

"Will you come see me tonight? I'll be underneath the stands at eight, find me okay?"

I nod at her, finishing the conversation with a sweet smile.
