•chapter seventeen• |still time|
I hold the lighter and more smaller gun in my hands, then strap it to my holster.
"So my school mate Garett...he's dead?" I ask, my hands shaking slighty. The guy who'd offered me beer.
"You haven't heard the full story. You'll soon be glad he's dead"
"I'd never be glad if someone died" I say, trembling slightly. Feeling ill in my stomach.
Dressed toe to head in black- black combat boots, black jeans, black leather jacket.
I sat down in Christophers car, as he drove down the highway.
"Do you want me to just say it?" he asks slowly. I nod.
"yeah. Just say it. What could be so bad?" I ask.
Chris pulls a face and my stomach lurches.
"Well- Liam- Scotts beta...Garett took him" Chris says with uncertainty.
My face goes hot with anger.
"What?! What do you mean he took him!? Where is he?" I say, flustered in emotional. My eyes going glassy with tears of stress.
"This is the part where you shut up" Chris says, taking his eyes off the road for a minute to make eye contact.
I scowl at him, but in his request I keep my mouth shut.
"Garett approached Scott at school today and told him that he had Liam. He said that if Scott didn't return Violet to him that Liam would die from a wolvesbain wound."
I sigh, furrowing my eyebrows and putting my head on the dashboard.
I sulk.
"And now Garrett's dead."
He nods.
"But there is still time" he corrects.
I shrug.
"So where are we heading to?"
He smiles to himself.
"Well, since it was Kate who took Violet, we should go after her instead. I believe she's taking refuge in an old warehouse I used to work in."
I nod. Sucking it up and sitting straight.
Christ swerves the car into the loading dock of the warehouse.
"Just- give me a minute." I say, gathering my feelings.
He nods, swinging open the car door.
I hear his voice collide with another. I guess it's Scott. They talk but I cannot hear what their saying.
I climb into the back seat, making sure not to step on the machine gun Chris has laid down.
I reach for the door but it opens without my help.
Chris stares past me and to the gun.
"That's why I brought this" he says.
He motions to the gun.
Scott looks at me and smirks.
"Jolie or the gun?" He asks.
I blush, smiling at Scott and giving him a small wave.
Chris glares at me.
"The gun."
I tilt my head an give him an offended look.
He takes it back. Re-wording his phrase.
"Jolie too- mostly the gun though"
I scoff as Chris hoists me out of the car with his strong arm.
He then takes the gun in his arms.
Scott studies the gun.
"Yeah- we're good with that"
Together we slowly approach the opening of the warehouse.
Inside is moist and mouldy. Plastic sheets hung over every opening an arch.
We walk into the middle of the warehouse, inspecting every corner.
I take a deep breath, feeling adrenaline course through me.
I'm not gonna lie, I was two steps from soiling my pants.
The plastic around us and a shadow passes. Chris follows the shadow with his gun.
I grab my gun out of the holster, doing the same as Chris. Living off the adrenaline.
"You shouldn't have come" Kate hisses, her silhouette outlined from behind the plastic.
"And you brought baby Argent with you? Sorry about our little run in- I hope I didn't scare you"
She laughs evilly and I take the gun out of the holster and point it at her.
Anger surging through me.
I try to steady my hands but they shake ferociously.
"Kate, we're here for Violet. We just need to talk to her" Scott demands.
Kate laughs.
"I knew you would find me. I was hoping we could do this later"
She runs her long claws along the plastic.
"I just needed more time"
"For what?" Chris asks, his voice shaky.
He knows deep down inside that he cannot kill his sister.
I know deep down I cannot kill my aunt, but I'll do whatever I can to stop more deaths than there have to be.
Even if I have to.
My hands shake violently, and I lower the gun.
"That's right sweet heart, lower your gun" she says encouragingly.
I snap my hand back up and point the gun at her head.
She growls.
"Lower the guns- we walk away" she sighs.
"You don't have to get hurt"
"Where's Violet?" Chris demands.
Kate sighs once more. "Put the gun down Chris!" She growls.
"Where is she?!" He shouts.
This starts something, because the plastic sheets between us come down and Kate and her two berserkers come forward.
It's now that I can see Kate in her supernatural form, clear as day.
I take a step back, changing my gun target to the nearest berserker instead of Kate.
Underneath the chaos of my uncles machine gun booming, I can hear Scott shouting.
"NO!" He yells.
But it's too late, I've already taken my first shot at the berserker.
