Flash 4

What does the fastest man alive do on his day off? Before the lightning bolt, if I wasn't still at the crime lab, I'd be at home chilling, but now my days off are different. Now they aren't so lonely. The lightning didn't just give me speed. It also gave me friends.

"This isn't even remotely anatomically correct." Caitlin whined, placing her tweezers back down. Barry sped over and smiled.

"That's not the point, Dr. Snow." He plucked out a bone and ran over to Cisco to play some ping pong with him. It had been an assignment created by Doctor Wells. Barry had to multitask all the games they were playing. Caitlin opted on playing a game of operation, Cisco on ping pong, Robin on archery and Wells on chess. Barry had been surprised Robin knew Archery, she was actually quite decent at it.

"Then what is the point?"

"To have fun." Barry sped away to catch one of the arrow's Robin shot off. She smirked at him and loaded up another one.

"And to continue your ongoing training by testing the speed of your mind by pushing your ability to multitask." Barry sped back to Wells and moved a pawn.

"I'm waiting on you, Dr. Wells." He smirked and ran back to Cisco.

-

Finally, after six days of car theft, robberies and cats in trees, Robin finally had a lazy morning. She arrived at S.T.A.R. labs at 9, got some coffee from the kitchen before running her daily software scan. Now with her cup empty she sat back, ready for today. She herself felt better to. Not only physically but mentally too. Maybe it was because of Barry, maybe it wasn't. She didn't really care at the moment.

That was however until Barry walked inside with Felicity Smoke. Robin frowned, not noticing Caitlin looking at her.

"And this is where my team monitors the police bands for criminal activity. We can track anything that's happening in the city. Check this out. We've got our own satellite." Felicity smiled. The team left their spots and walked to the main desk.

"I know. I've hacked into it from time to time."

"Rude." Cisco commented.

"It is, of course, so wonderful to see you again, Felicity." Caitlin smiled, a bit awkward and walked to Felicity. "I'm just wondering how much of our operation she needs to know about."

"I'm really good at keeping secrets."

"Yeah, Felicity works with The Arrow." Robin rolled her eyes.

"Yeah I know" She huffed and walked back towards her laptop. Cisco grinned while Barry frowned.

"Sweet."

"How do you know?" Robin looked up.

"I helped them once" She turned to look at Cisco and Caitlin. "-at the warehouse." Cisco gasped.

"Now it's all making sense." Caitlin shook her head and looked at Barry.

"You know who The Arrow is." Cisco stepped up.

"Wait, do you know who The Arrow is" Barry rubbed his head and made a face.

"Uh..."

"Let's just say that my team has a similar set up, but with... More pointy objects." Wells rolled inside.

"Welcome, Ms. Smoak." Felicity turned around, her mouth agape.

"Dr. Wells? The Dr. Wells?" Barry grinned from behind her.

"Please, call me Harrison, Felicity."

"Oh, you know who I am?"

"Ranked second in the national informative technology competition at age 19, graduated M.I.T. With masters degree in cyber security and computer sciences. I know who you are. I keep an eye out for promising talent in scientific fields. It's what brought me Cisco, Caitlin and Robin, and I foresaw great things from you." Barry grinned and turned her around, looking like a kid on Christmas.

"Speaking of great things, want to see something cool?" Barry bounced on the balls of his feet and led Felicity to the treadmill room. The team followed them. Caitlin turned to Robin.

"Are you alright" She nodded.

"Peachy." They took their seats at the console's and watched as Barry began to run.

"How fast can he run?" Robin looked on the console and shook her head.

"He hasn't reached his top speed yet, theoretically speaking."

"So is he really okay?" Caitlin nodded.

"His heart rate is within normal range for him." Felicity turned around.

"No, I mean, the lightning bolt changed him. Do any of you really know how much?" Wells nodded.

"We know a fair amount."

"If everything about him is sped up, is he going to age faster? What would happen if he ran too fast? I mean, would he just be running, and then, poof, he's dust in a red costume?"

"Everything we do here at S.T.A.R. Labs is to protect Barry Allen. Trust us, Felicity, he is in very good hands here."

"Want to see how fast I can run backwards?" Barry shouted. He turned around and tried to turned around. Not that it worked. He shot backwards and hit the wall with a crash. Felicity flinched.

"Don't worry. He heals quickly too." Caitlin waved it off.

-

Robin decided to blow off some steam. She wasn't angry at Felicity, it was just that she showed up here and immediately thought she knew Barry, the new Barry. Maybe Barry hadn't changed but still.

With a swoosh Robin soared trough the air and grabbed the next bar. She swung herself up, made a straight handstand before she swung back to the other bar. She held it and kept herself up. Caitlin walked in. Her eyes widen as she saw her friend, hanging from one of the wooden bars.

"I didn't know you still did this" Robin moved her head up to look at Caitlin. She huffed and pushed herself down.

"I didn't, I just wanted to see if I could still do it" She swung back around and flew to the other bar. Caitlin flinched but smiled once she noticed she wasn't hurt.

"You are really good at this"

"Why are you here, Cait?" Caitlin shook her head at her friend an crossed her arms.

"I noticed there was another trivia at Jitters and I thought why not join you" Robin jumped off the bars, landing on her feet.

"Really?" Caitlin shrugged.

"Why not?" Robin narrowed her eyes at her friend before she nodded.

"Alright, let me change first"

-

"Okay, everybody, welcome. We've got some new challengers. Please, welcome e=mc Hammer." The cafe clapped and Barry beamed.

"No, you see, I did it because E=mc squared is Einstein's formula for kinetic energy, right? And, you know, can't touch this." He did a strange dance, making Iris smile.

"That's great, Barry. So where is Felicity?"

"I'm not sure. I told her it started at..." The turned around, hearing the door open and close. There stood Felicity, wearing a black dress with lots of holes.

"Feel free to buy yourself that dress." Eddie whispered to Iris. Felicity walked over, not looking very comfortable.

"I totally overdressed for trivia night." Barry shook his head, still staring.

"No, you look amazing." Iris nodded.

"Yeah, you do." Felicity noticed the group name.

"E=mc hammer." She laughed.

"That's funny. See?" Iris smiled at them before she frowned.

"Have you seen Robin?" Barry shook his head. "I thought I invited her"

"Come to think of it, I haven't talked to her either" Barry frowned before he snapped out of it when the first question was asked.

-

"'What does T.A.R.D.I.S stand for?' What kind of question is this?" Caitlin frowned, looking down at the tabled. That was until she noticed Robin wasn't paying attention. "Robin" Robin turned back to her.

"Hmm?" Caitlin grinned.

"You were eying Barry, weren't you?" Robin shook her head and quickly filled in the answer on the tabled. There was a ping, them being the first to answer.

"And the points go to The Madusa Cascade!!!" People clapped but Robin ignored them.

"I was not eying them."

"Yes you were" Caitlin gasped, catching on. "You are jealous of Felicity." Robin shook her head, the baseball hat on her head moving along.

"No way."

"Next question, what is the scientific code for water" Caitlin quickly answered but was to slow. "And the points go to e=mc Hammer!"

"You like Barry"

-

"Three is Pasteur." Felicity nodded, swiping the head.

"Mm-mm. Three is Erdel, and four is Pasteur. Right." Barry grinned.

"Five?"

"Descartes." They answered at the same time.

"Are they even speaking English?" Felicity entered their answers.

"And the points go to, The Madusa Cascade!" Barry smiled it off.

"Don't worry. The Madusa guy has been winning the Trivia for the last couple of months." Iris explained before she smiled. "I knew you two would make a good team. So, Felicity, what do you do?"

"I work in computer sciences at Queen Consolidated."

"Really? Do you have a boyfriend in Starling City?" Felicity gulped.

"No, no, there is no one. I'll get us some more drinks."She stood up and walked away. Eddie smiled as well.

"And I had too many of those first ones, so I will be right back." Iris turned to Barry.

"What?"

"Dude."

"Dude? Wha..."

"Are you still gonna tell me that she's not into you?" Barry looked down with a grin. "Look at that dress. And when I asked her the boyfriend question, she froze."

"Yeah, you were particularly sly with that one."

"Felicity is smart, nice, and pretty. And most importantly, she is the second girl I have seen you with that really understands and appreciates you for the amazing person that I am always telling you that you are. She's perfect for you, so what are you waiting for, Barry?" Barry smiled before he frowned.

"Who's the first girl?"

"Robin of course. I even made a bet with Eddie. You owe me ten bucks".

-

Robin watched as Felicity walked back to Barry and Iris with drinks. Robin than turned her head back down to the tablet.

"How are you so good at this?" Robin shrugged and pressed one of the answers. The screen turned green.

"Another point for the Madusa Cascade!"

"It's just a matter of knowing some basic stuff."

"Why don't you just ask him out, it is the 21 century, you know?"

"Barry deserves better, I have to much baggage. I can't even pull of a dress like that" She motioned towards Felicity.

"Why not, you have an amazing body"

"You have seen my scars Caitlin."

-

"I'm sorry. I thought I knew it, and I got excited, and I... I just hit it." Eddie apologized.

"No, I mean, maybe they'll get it wrong too." Felicity smiled and looked back at the group dressed up as star wars characters.

"Oh, yeah. I am sure that the team named Pride and Padawans doesn't know the name to Han Solo's ship." Iris took Eddie's hands.

"Oh, honey, you are so cute when you're confused." They kissed but broke apart when Eddie's phone started beeping. He took it and sighed.

"Someone spotted Snart. I gotta go." Iris nodded and together they walked away. Barry stood up as well.

"I'll cover for you."

"All right, what are you gonna say?" She shrugged.

"I usually tell people Oliver's at a night club with a girl or nursing a hangover."

"None of which will work for me."

"Bad stomach ache... Really bad diarrhea." She tried.

"Yeah, I'm not comfortable with that excuse."

"Just go. Stay safe." Barry sped away. "And I'm talking to air now, which is odd. And I'm still doing it." She sighed and walked back inside.

"And tonight's winners are... Our still unbeaten champion, the Madusa Cascade" Robin smiled and stood up, the cap still hiding her face. She accepted the coupon from the quizmaster and walked back to Caitlin.

"I'm gonna asked if they can swap it to two 35's."  Caitlin shook her head.

"Keep it, you drink much more coffee than me"

"If you want something, just ask" Caitlin nodded. "We should head back to S.T.A.R. labs." Caitlin grabbed her jacked and walked after Robin to the exit. Felicity blinked when she noticed them.

"Robin, Caitlin? What are you doing here?" Robin send her an innocent smile.

"Just drinking some coffee. We're going back to the lab, want a ride?" Felicity nodded and walked with them to the S.T.A.R. Labs car.

-

"It's still numb." Barry hissed, touching the black spot on his stomach.

"It's presenting itself like third degree frostbite." Caitlin confirmed, walking away from the bed.

"I thought he had hyper healing."

"It's been slowed. If your cells weren't regenerating at the rate they are" Robin walked over to Barry and gently placed a bandage over the burn. Barry stared at her for a moment, noticing how quiet she was. "-your blood vessels would have frozen solid and the nerve damage would have been permanent. You're lucky to be alive." Barry groaned and stood up.

"Snart wasn't another meta-human. He has some kind of gun. It froze things, slowed me down... Enough that I wasn't in time to save someone." Robin sighed and looked down at her tablet.

"According to his record, Snart didn't even bother to finish high school, so how did he build a handheld high tech snow machine?"

"S.T.A.R. Labs built the cold gun." Wells stated. They all turned to him. Cisco stepped up.

"Dr. Wells, Robin and Caitlin had nothing to do with this. I built the gun." Barry frowned.

"You did? Why?"

"Because speed and cold are opposites. Temperature is measured by how quickly the atoms of something are oscillating. The faster they are, the hotter it is, and when then are cold, they're slower on the atomic level. When there's no movement at all, it's called..."

"Absolute zero. Yeah" Barry nodded.

"I designed a compact cryo engine to achieve absolute zero. I built it to stop you. I didn't know who you were then, Barry. I mean, what if you turned out to be some psycho, like Mardon or Nimbus?"

"But I didn't. Did I?"

"We built the entire structure you're standing in to do good, and it blew up. In the wake of that, you can understand why Cisco would want to be prepared for the worst." Caitlin tried.

"I can understand that, but what I can't understand is why you didn't tell me what you did. I mean, after all we've been through, I thought you trusted me. I thought we were friends."

"We are, Barry."

"I mean, if you would have just told me, I could have been prepared. But instead, someone died tonight."

"And I have to live with that."

"No, Cisco. We all do." Barry breathed and left.

-

That day Robin decided train a little bit longer, pushing her limits. When she was done she pulled on her baggy t-shirt and walked out, only to stop when she noticed Barry was running on the treadmill. She bit her lip and made the decision to step inside.

"Barry." Barry stopped and turned to her, taking deep breaths.

"What are you doing? You should go home. Get some sleep." Robin smiled

"You should too." She realized what she said and shook her head. "Not go with me, I meant get some sleep."Barry shook his head, subconsciously realizing that Robin sounded a lot like Felicity.

"I can't. Every time I close my eyes, I see that man's face. I watched him die." Robin watched him with sad eyes. "I have to go faster." Robin placed her hand on his arm, stopping him from running again.

"Barry, it's not your fault. And it's not Cisco's, either." Barry sighed ad turned to her. "Barry, I know you're upset, but you have to look at this from his point of view."

"No, I get it. He didn't trust me."

"Barry, I take it you have met the whole Arrow team." Barry nodded. "Felicity, Oliver, and Diggle, they are this well-oiled archery machine. But I know they didn't start out that way. And unlike us, they weren't tossed together overnight." Barry scoffed making Robin smile. "I've seen firsthand what this life can do to people. It's a lonely path." She swallowed. "Don't make it any lonelier than it has to be." Barry watched her as she turned around and left. Once Robin was in the hallway she took out her phone. She tapped one of the contacts and lifted the phone to her ear.

"Hey Alfred, I need a favor"

-

"I figured out a way to track Captain Cold" Cisco declared the next morning. The whole team was back at S.T.A.R. Labs plus Felicity but minus Robin. Caitlin had tried calling her but she wasn't picking up.

"You gotta stop naming these guys." Barry ignored them and watched the map.

"Barry, listen to him." Barry turned around, still angry.

"How?"

"The cold gun is powered by an engine control unit, a microcomputer that regulates air-to-fuel ratios so the sub-cooled fluid in the chambers don't overflow and..."

"Explode. Right."

"This E.C.U. was receiving updates wirelessly from my tablet. If I boost the signal using Central City's network and send a false update, we'll get a ping back, and then..."

"We can locate Snart." Wells nodded.

"How long will it take?" Cisco looked down at the computer.

"First I have to hack into the City's network, and seeing Robin isn't here, I don't know, 30 minutes, maybe?" Felicity grinned.

"I can do it in less than one." She walked over to the computer of Robin and sat down. "When it comes to hacking, I'm the fastest woman alive." She typed away and smiled.

"All right, I'm in." Cisco looked up.

"Are you kidding?"

"All right, I'm sending the updates. We're connected. Network is triangulating the location."

"We got him. He's heading west on Nelson toward the train station."

"If he's leaving, it appears Mr. Snart may have gotten what he came for." Barry ran away and came back in his suit.

"When we put our minds to it, dude, nothing can stop us." Cisco grinned but noticed Barry turned off the communication. "Oh, you turned your ear piece off. How are we gonna talk to each other?" Barry send him a look.

"I don't feel like talking right now." And with that he sped off. Cisco watched him before he sat down in defeat.

"You should go after Barry." Caitlin looked down at the screen.

"You heard him, Felicity. He wants to do this alone." She smiled.

"Of course, he said that. He's hurt." She stood up and walked towards them. "You're his team and his friends. If I had a nickel for every time The Arrow told me to back off, I would be as rich as Oliver Queen" She stopped, realizing what she had said. "Who I mention because he's the richest person I know, or used to be. The point is, you have your partner's back no matter what." They stared at her before a familiar voice broke trough.

"Then I guess it's a good thing I'm at the train station" Cisco's eyes widen.

"Robin?"

"Bingo"

"You need to get out, Snart is there"

"Yes, I know, that's why I'm here" Robin huffed as she watched from the shadows as the police flowed inside. "Do you know where Barry is?" Cisco shook his head, not wanting her at the crime scene when Caitlin took control of the mic.

"He's at one of the trains at the east side" Robin reached up and tapped her ear piece.

"Copy that" She jumped out of the shadows and towards the east side. As she reached it she noticed that one of the trains was moving, so taking a guess she jumped on it.

"-I'll be busy saving myself" Robin heard she found the right coupe and jumped inside. Barry's eyes widen as he saw her, all clad in black with a domino mask on her face. Her blue eyes scanned the scene before they found Barry's. Snart froze the floor and got out at the side door.

"Get these people out of here, I'm going after Snart" Barry shook himself out of his stare and nodded. Robin jumped after Snart. She rolled out of the train, breaking her fall. When she finally came to a stop she noticed Barry was out as well and the train was flaming behind him. She grunted and got to her feet, still a bit rusty.

"You're pretty fast, kid, but not fast enough." Barry groaned in pain as Snart froze his stomach to the ground. "Thank you."

"For what?" Barry's eyes shot around, hoping to spot Robin but she was nowhere to be seen.

"You forced me to up my game, not only with this gun, but with how I think about the job. It's been educational." Robin took out her Escrima Sticks that hang from her back and advanced on Snart.

"Drop it!" She ordered. Snart turned to her and smirked.

"Little Robin, it's been too long."

"I can't say the same." She pointed one of her sticks at Snart. "You know I can beat you so I am giving you a chance to walk away." Snart thought for a moment before he grinned.

"Your hands are shaking. You've turned rusty"

"So? I recon I was bleeding out the last time we fought, and I still kicked your ass." Snart stared at her before he lowered his gun.

"You win, kid. I'll see you around." He left Barry and walked away.

"Hey, leave the diamond." Snart snorted.

"Don't push your luck." Robin pointed her stick at him. He sighed and dropped the diamond. "Fine" Robin watched him leave before she took the diamond from the ground and walked towards Barry. She slammed her stick down on the ice, shattering it before helping him sit up.

"Couldn't have hit him if I wanted to, I think I spangled my wrist." She smiled.

"How did you do that?"

"That's a tale I'm gonna tell when we get back to S.T.A.R. labs. Let's get you warm first." Barry nodded and stood up with her help.

"Thank you."

-

Both superheroes walked back into S.T.A.R. labs, battered and bruised. Caitlin and Felicity helped Barry to one of the bed's, to check his wounds while Cisco stared at Robin. She reached up and took off her domino mask.

"You are robin?" He blinked. "As in THE Robin?" Robin chuckled at his enthusiasm and nodded.

"Yeah, well I was The Robin" Barry looked up from the bed, interested as well.

"Wait, do you mean Robin as in Batman's sidekick. The boy wonder, Robin?" Cisco nodded and bounced on the balls of his feet.

"This is so cool!!!"

"Why didn't you tell us?" Robin licked her lips.

"There was nothing left to tell. I retired, the title was passed on." She smiled. "But when I saw how much problems you had with Snart, I decided you could use some help"

"Did you know?"  Cisco asked, looking at Caitlin, realizing why she acted the way she had before. Caitlin smiled sheepishly.

"She told me after I caught her working out in the gym."

"So wait, you trained under Batman!!!" Robin nodded. "That is so awesome!!!" He gasped "The Robin, the new sidekick of The Flash" Cisco grinned, already imagining it. They chuckled but Barry turned serious.

"Will you?"

"What?"

"Be my sidekick or partner, you've seen how tough these people are. I could use your help out there" Robin stared at him and the others before she nodded.

"Why not?" She turned to Cisco. "But, I am going to need a new name. The Robin is already used by someone else." Cisco grinned and took a deep breath.

"What about Shadow?" They shook their heads. Robin moved back towards the backroom. Cisco followed her. "Bird?" Barry chuckled before he grunted, his burns starting to hurt. Felicity watched them, feeling like she had seen this before. "You need a new suit!!" Cisco exclaimed and ran back into the room, going to his computer to work on a design.

Soon things had calmed down some more and everyone was back in the room. Robin sat behind her laptop, going through Cisco's endless sketches.

"We've been trying to track Snart, but he must have disconnected the signal somehow." Cisco told Barry, his eyes glued to the screen.

"We'll find him, Cisco, together." Barry smiled. Cisco looked away from the screen and smiled as well, happy Barry had forgiven him. Felicity walked into the room.

"You have a great team here, Barry. Speaking of teams, I should probably get back to mine" Wells rolled towards Caitlin so he was sitting in between her and Cisco.

"It was nice meeting you, Ms. Smoak. Please extend a hello to The Arrow for us." She nodded.

"I will." Barry stepped towards her.

"Good-bye, Felicity."

"Bye, Barry." They stared at each other for a moment before they hugged. They broke away and Felicity left. Barry crossed his arms and smiled.

"Remarkable young woman." Wells commented. "She's special." Barry nodded.

"Yeah, she is." Barry smiled and walked to the training room. Robin, who had watched the whole thing sighed.

"You know, if you'll just tell him you like him he-" Robin looked up, cutting off her friend.

"Look, I know for a fact Barry doesn't like me. He likes Iris and Felicity." She looked down at her laptop. "And even if he liked me, I have too much baggage for a normal relationship." Caitlin stared at her friend, feeling sad for her but also knowing Barry did feel something for her, even if he didn't realize it yet.
