Fleeting Apparition

I turned away this time, avoiding her

Avoiding so I wouldn't be pursued

By yet another apparition, sir

Whose smoke-filled belly, desires me imbued.

Alas she saw me while I passed her by

It seems that seeing's all she does these days.

She was so hurt to see my dodging eye

Averting gentle trappings of her gaze.

She called to me with her expression, "Why?"

So pale and silent, pleading like a ghost

I wished to turn back like I'd not passed by,

But no-one ever can, and so I'm toast.

She looked like any typical ghost would

And see, for all I know, she existed.
