One

Ambara was just a city, a small part of Mahabara, a country which no longer had the luxury to flourish let alone lavish its own folk. Unfortunately the impact of colonialism was not as small here.

Thanks to the overly creative way of Ankara--the greedy neighboring country in destroying civilization, things were just so unbearable for the local people of Ambara. Everyday, they were either starved, tortured or massacred to death. They didn't even have the power over which way was better for them to die. After all, those Ankara bastards thought that they were the ones who knew best how to end a life.

"Make sure nobody's alive." The commander stated with his authoritative voice.

Obeying their master, the soldiers moved towards the neighborhood. Excitedly, with their rhytmical shots of gun firing at every direction, people and animals were soon dead in place. They were all defeated, fast and easy.

"All is clear, sir!" The soldier team leader reported, pride dripping out of his steely voice.

"Good." The commander widened his mouth into a devilish grin. "Now, go get the treasure. Don't leave even a single thing."

Little did they know, they did leave a thing, a breathing human.

It was girl, a young teenage girl.

She locked herself in some underground storage beneath the barn, all safe and sound.

"All is packed, sir!" The soldier team leader reported once again.

The commander smirked. "Let's go!"

Minutes later, after the roaring car engine faded in the distance, the neighborhood was left eerily quiet and cold.

"The party is over." She muttered and opened her eyes. She then took her time to take a deep breath and just stared blankly to the darkness of the room. "I'm sorry. I just got no power."

Soon after, she climbed up the stairs and back to the ground she'd been living on. The smell of fresh blood wafted in the air, causing her stomach to churn a little. With a pair of hollow eyes, she scanned the area only to find it had been trashed with dead people lying cold all around.

She did expect this massacre to happen. She heard this from the buzzing rumours among people in the capital spreading the news that the invaders were going to come.

Knowing that info she even told the head of her orphanage to tell all people in the East of Ambara to run, saving their life. Unfortunately, she was just a nobody, an orphan since she was a baby who didn't really get along with anybody. In short, nobody would ever believe her.

"Ma'am, thank you for everything." She whispered and bowed her head to the corpse of the orphanage founder, the only person close to be her mother figure.

Without shedding a single tear, she turned around and began to walk and walk and walk ever so slowly. She didn't know what to do nor where to go, but her legs kept moving, heading to the west, hoping to find a sun to help her get out of the darkness.
