EXTENDED SUMMARY, Pink Skies

Melody Salazar came from a long line of house wives. When Melody proposed the idea of her becoming a surgeon they were not ecstatic, not one bit. They believed her being a women and having a job that only men should have was ridiculous.

They belittled her for wanting a man's job. They belittled her for her dreams. They told her that she was meant to stay in the kitchen where they believed a woman should be and tending to her husband, not tending to an open body cavity.

Her family made her feel silly for wanting to save lives. She spent hours trying to decipher how they could do that just because her dreams are different than theirs. She strived to break out of her generational curse and she also strived to be just like her father.

Dr. Nicolas Salazar the infamous neurosurgeon; during his years as a surgeon he won four Harper Avery awards and published two New York Time 'best sellers'. He was the go to neurosurgeon on the East Coast.

Until Nicolas developed a tumor on his brain. Ironically, a neurosurgeon dies of a brain tumor that was too big to be removed. There was nothing anyone could do to save him. He died peacefully in the presence of his beloved wife and his three daughters whom he cherish with everything in him.

Melody would often be at the hospital with her sisters, when her mother was out of town and during her stays she would watch her father. She would watch the way he never stopped whenever he put on the white coat with his name embroidered on it. She was always amazed at how much he put into his work. Nicolas was not a good surgeon because he was good with a scalpel—he was a good surgeon because of his dedication and passion towards his patients. He showed an empathy to his patients that she noticed very few surgeons had. Melody admired what he did and she wanted to be just like him; A good surgeon.

She was born to be a surgeon, she was never meant to cater to a man for the rest of her life. Her dad saved lives with compassion and he was extraordinary. When everyone in her family did not like the idea of her becoming a surgeon her dad was the only one who supported her. He told her that she could do anything she dreamed of if you have the passion for it. He never once made her feel stupid for wanting to be just like him. He made her dreams important and helped her until his last breath.

Melody Salazar is meant to be a surgeon just like her father and she hoped everything she does during her years before she becomes an attending makes her dad proud.
