Dan was seventy three.

He walked down the dull streets of the city he lived in, ugly grey buildings surrounding him. He didn't especially enjoy living there, but Phil liked it, so he put up with it and didn't complain for his sake.

He had one hand gripped firmly around the leash of Melody, his beloved dog, as he made his way to the park. It was about 2:00pm, and the sun overhead was shining down brilliantly, making Dan thankful for the shadows being cast from the huge buildings surrounding him. Thankfully, he had nearly reached his destination.

Earlier that day, Phil had left the house, claiming he was going to their local park and that Dan should meet him there mid afternoon. He wasn't sure why, but had decided since he hadn't been out for a while and Melody needed a walk that he would go as he had been told.

By now, he had reached the gate, and the dog's tail was wagging back and forth rapidly as she realized where they were.

"Calm down, we're just here to see what Phil wanted," he laughed at her. Of course, she didn't understand, and continued to try and yank the leash out of his hand in an attempt to go further into the park. Eventually he just gave up and let her run around, knowing she'd come back to him when he called.

Now that he didn't have to focus on keeping Melody back, Dan decided to leisurely stroll through the tranquil area in his search for his husband. No need to rush.

After half an hour or so of admiring the park, he stumbled across a tiny moss covered area, the trees over which threw dappled sunlight to give a perfect amount of light. To one side, against an old tree covered in carvings from past couples, sat a small, rickety bench. And, in the centre of all this, a blanket was lain across the ground with food, pillows, and a few random items. On the blanket sat Phil, looking around expectantly on all sides of the clearing until his eyes landed on Dan. Phil patted the spot beside him and he slowly made his way over and sat down, still admiring the beautiful spot.

"I've never been here before," he said to the man beside him, still mesmerized by how perfect the place was.

"I know. I only found it a few days ago, and I thought it was perfect for a day out. I hope you like it."

"I love it," Dan told him, laying back and looking up at the trees, which were gently swaying in the wind.

They sat together in silence for a bit before Phil gestured towards the basket beside him and said,"I hope you didn't eat before you came here. I would have warned you not to, but I didn't want to spoil anything."

In reality, he had eaten a while before he left the house, but so as not to disappoint Phil he said, "no, I didn't have anything, don't worry." Phil smiled at that and opened the basket, taking out a few assorted sandwiches and salads and offering some to Dan, who took a few things and laid back down.

Once he had finished what he had, he moved over to lay his head down on Phil's crossed legs.

"I brought your camera, if you'd like to take some pictures," Phil told him while he gently stroked Dan's hair with one hand.

"Maybe after. I think I'll just stay here for a bit."

So they sat there, talking and kissing and laughing until the stars came out and they both fell asleep.
