Dan was fifteen.

He sat in a corner in one of the halls of his high school, alone at a dark blue circular table. He had just been asked out for the first time, and although he had said no, he was still quite pleased. It wasn't that he didn't like the person; it's just that they were a girl, and his sexuality didn't permit him to be with her.

Honestly, he was just happy someone liked him enough to try. Now she was probably out with the rest of the annoying kids though, making fun of him behind his back and calling him gay for turning down a girl. They threw it around as a casual insult, even though it was true that Dan was gay, and he didn't like the way they used the word like that. It should never be used to insult someone, in his opinion.

"Hey," said a voice behind him, making him jump a bit and look around to see who was there. He was met by a boy with curly hair and shining, bright green eyes. "I'm PJ," the boy continued, sitting down across from Dan.

"Dan," he said.

"I know."

"Oh."

"So apparently you're gay?"

"So everyone says."

"But are you?"

"Yeah."

"Same. Mind if I sit here?"

Dan nodded. Maybe, just maybe, he could have another try at a friend?
