Chapter Six: Teal Lightning
Denki wants a tattoo to discreetly debut he was a survivor of sexual abuse. What better tattoo to get than teal lightning.
Backstory of the tattoo idea so people aren't confused. Teal is the color of the sexual assault survivor ribbon and Denki's signature way of bringing light into the world is being a hero with his electricity (hence lightning). The tattoo is meant to symbolize that even though he went through something bad, he survived, and will light up the world.

Denki and Bakugo adjusted well, all things considered. The two days that followed bringing Kenji home consisted of buying Kenji a whole new wardrobe, redecorating the spare room they had been using to place useless things to be Kenji's bedroom, and sorting out all the legal paperwork. Denki and Bakugo took every step they had to and even used a few connections to make the process go quicker. It was a major adjustment and it took Kenji a few days to fall into a routine with the two pros, who had been constantly moving about. They managed though, and their routines rapidly flowed together in a continuous stream.
When the time came for both to go to work, they had Mic and Aizawa watch Kenji. They had given proper introductions at the family dinner the two retired heroes would host every Sunday. Eri was ecstatic to be an aunt, Aizawa nearly had a seizure when it clicked that he was a grandpa, and Mic nearly squashed the poor child in a warm embrace. Monoma and Shinso were happy to be uncles, especially to such a sweet and timid boy. Monoma, Mic, and Aizawa loved to spoil the boy and Eri or Shinso often played with him if they were home when Kenji was there.
Class A and B also had the pleasure of meeting Kenji when they all got together for their annual party, they would gather randomly once a year to catch up and let loose. Once all the pros heard that the couple was planning on bringing Kenji to meet them, they had all bought gifts to give to him. The small child was showered with so much love that he actually cried on a few occasions. Midoriya joked that Bakugo, despite hating his crybaby ass when they were kids, adopted a fellow crybaby. Bakugo took the joke in stride, saying that Kenji was stronger than even he was as a kid. Everybody watched as Kenji was attached to Denki most of the night, they all knew why. It was a close knit secret between their classes, what happened to Denki and how Kenji came to be adopted. Looking at the pair, everyone could see it was meant to be. Bakugo lovingly huffed as he watched Denki lift Kenji and dance with him, the two laughing loudly with so much palatable joy.
Eventually, Kenji met the staff at UA when Mic and Aizawa went on their anniversary trip, which was a week-long stay in a hot spring high in the mountains. When he stepped into the UA gates holding Kenji, Toga was the first to see him. She squealed like crazy, scaring a group of passing students as she ran to him and swiped the small boy from Denki's hold. It took Denki a whole minute of staring at his empty arms for it to register that Toga took Kenji and was twirling him around. Denki was quick to react, snatching Kenji back from Toga, but it was too late. Toga was screeching how she was an aunt now, which got Shimura, and Iguchi's attention. The two ran over and began to crowd Denki, scaring Kenji a bit.
Hitoshi, God bless his soul, ended up dismissing the trio of cooking staff and told them to give Denki space. Nezu was quick to approach, reaching for Kenji and offering to watch him while he taught. Denki was grateful for that, if the staff reacted this way to his new son, he could only imagine his students. Denki handed off Kenji's bag, explaining who Nezu was to the small boy first before handing him off. His relief was short-lived when Nezu, ever the lover of chaos, brought the small child to Denki's homeroom class. His students cooed just as much as the trio had, which made Denki sigh. Kenji would grow up with so much love, the one thing he never truly got.
A few months went by and everything sorted itself out, it was peaceful for the most part. Yes, there were still villains and such, but for Denki it was calmer than normal. Which could only mean a shit storm was coming, and boy was he right. Apparently, Kenji's biological parents had found out that their son was adopted by two pro heroes and went after him. They wanted money from the pros, and when both refused, they outed Kenji to be their biological son and cried crocodile tears that the two pros didn't allow them to see their child. Many news stations interviewed them, and the drug-using assholes decided to make up a sob story about how Kenji was kidnapped and they had been looking for them. It brought Denki and Bakugo into a really bad spot publicly, to the point both of them were losing favor.
Denki can remember when he snapped.
He had been doing an interview after catching a villain when a civilian, who was off screen, chucked a pile of mud at him. It nailed him straight in the back of the head and the citizen then had the gaul to shout he was a kidnapper. Denki's smile vanished and he sparked violently, vibrating in anger. He turned swiftly to face the civilian, eyes ablaze with fury.
"HOW DARE YOU?! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT MY POOR CHILD HAS BEEN THROUGH THANKS TO THOSE DISGUSTING PIECES OF SHIT!!!" the crowd gasped and began booing him.
"THEY ARE HIS REAL PARENTS!!!"
"THEY DESERVE TO SEE THEIR BABY!!!"
"YOU HAVE HURT THAT POOR MOTHER BY KEEPING HER FROM HER BABY!!!"
"EXCUSE ME?! THEY REALLY DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE WHEN THEY SOLD THEIR SON TO A DRUG RING FOR COCAINE AND CASH!!! THEY CAN LIE ALL THEY WANT, BUT IT WILL NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT KENJI IS MY BABY!!! BLOOD RELATED OR NOT, DYNAMIGHT AND I ADOPTED HIM AFTER I SAVED HIM BECAUSE THOSE TWO 'PARENTS' GAVE HIM AWAY!!! THOSE TWO DRUG USING PARASITES WILL NEVER LAY THEIR SELFISH HANDS ON MY SON!!!"
Denki was panting and his cheeks were red. The crowd that had gathered was silent, many with faces of horror. The civilian who had thrown the mud was staring, scared to move. He looked to his own hands, eyes wide with regret. Denki huffed and turned back to the reporter who had been interviewing him. He took a few deep breaths before looking at her.
"Chargebolt, are you alright?" she asked quietly.
"I'm sorry, I lost my temper. But, I will not stand for civilians who think they understand what happened. I think it is best if we stop this interview, I need to calm down," Denki spoke softly before bowing slightly, "I apologize. Please, have your network send my agency an email if you wish to continue some other time," Denki swiftly stormed off, the crowd watching him with ashamed gazes. When videos of Denki's outburst hit the internet, it called into question how reliable Kenji's parents' story was. It led to an investigation that proved Denki was telling the truth, and once the public found out, Denki and Bakugo received many apologies.
However, despite everything going well for the two pros, the investigation led to people also finding out about what happened to Kenji. It caused the boy a severe amount of trauma as the more unsensible people of the world pointed blame on him. Denki, Bakugo, and anybody they associated with shut down the victim blaming immediately. But, it didn't make things much better. Kenji was very upset that some people would look at him with disdain in the streets and whisper behind their hands. Denki noticed the changes Kenji was going through, finding himself agonized by his child's pain.
That's when he got the idea to let the world know he was also a victim. He didn't want to just tell people, that was not his style. It was too boring, he had to make a splash when he would announce his secret. He knew he had to be serious when he told his story, but he also needed to make a statement. So, he decided to get a tattoo. Not just any tattoo, two full sleeves that went across his chest and back.
Bakugo had been sent on a mission that would take a couple days, so Denki asked Mic if he and Aizawa could watch Kenji for the day. Once he agreed, Denki bolted. He had made the appointment in secret, took the week off, and went to a tattoo parlor in the outskirts of the city. It was owned by a couple: Shea and Ruby. The two girls each had their own style: Shea did portraits, nature, and realism while Ruby did colorful cartoons and kawaii characters. Denki wanted them to collaborate on the tattoo, Shea doing the lightning and Ruby doing the color work. Normally, it would be a health risk, but Denki was good at keeping secrets.
Five hours later, Denki's tattoo was beautiful. It spanned from elbow to elbow, natural splays of lightning littering his upper arms, chest muscles, upper back, and the back of his neck. The lightning itself was white, with teal emitting from the lightning to make it look like it was glowing with tiny purple shading to deepen the texture. Ruby had even fused the colors with a special ink that glowed in blacklight, so his lightning could really shine. Ruby and Shea alongside him as he gazed at himself in the mirror.
"It's more than anything I could've wished for," Denki croaked out, near tears. It was perfect, it was bright, but still powerful. It was his proof of strength and survival, that he would not now or ever be struck down by trauma. Ruby smirked while Shea cupped Denki's face, wiping his tears. The two began to wrap him up and gathered some supplies for him to take home.
"Make sure after you're done cleaning to rewrap in fresk cling wrap, we provided a roll for you. In this bag are more detailed instructions on proper care, as well as some ointments and lotions that will help keep the skin less itchy and irritated. It also has our special formula mist to help the color stick," Ruby explained. He handed the money to Shea as he graciously took the bag from Ruby. With a smile and a signature finger gun, he bid the two a farewell.
Denki got home and followed all the directions he was given. The tattoo looked amazing on the second day, but Denki kept with the instructions and continued to keep the tattoo wrapped until the third day. When he picked up Kenji from Mic's, he wore a turtleneck to make sure the tattoo was safe from sunlight. He also let the tattoo breath by doing chores shirtless. After the three days he was advised to keep it wrapped up was over, he happily flaunted the tattoo around the house. Kenji was in awe of it, wanting to touch it. He let his son gently graze over it, smiling when Kenji's eyes sparkled.
"I got it to show that what happened to us will never dull our sparks. We're strong, Kenji, none of those jerks who look at you with mean eyes will ever understand that. I got it for us, and people like us, who are super strong," Kenji started to tear up, hugging Denki tightly. Denki hugged back, "my little watermelon warrior," Kenji laughed at the endearing term. That's when Bakugo opened the door, returning from his mission early.
"What's going on? I know my totally awesome soldier and his papa are not being goofy without...me," Bakugo took immediate notice of Denki's tattoo. He dropped his duffle bag in shock and stomped over, eyes racking the marvelous work of permanent art, "what is this?"
"Papa said it's to show all those meanies that people like Papa and I are strong! He got it for us, Daddy!" Kenji explained. Bakugo's eyes softened and his smile turned mushy.
"That's amazing, your papa is so strong, right Kenji?" Kenji nodded, which made Denki tear up a bit, "I'll make us some dinner, you two go relax, ok?" Bakugo pecked Denki's lips before scampering off to the kitchen.
That night, Bakugo was careful when making love to Denki. He placed chaste kisses all over Denki's tattoo, massaging his body while giving soft praises with each loving thrust. He was careful to not directly touch the tattoo with his hands, since his nitroglycerin sweat could infect the newly traumatized flesh. Instead, Bakugo paid attention to Denki's lower half: hips to toe tip were massaged and caressed lightly. When the two were finally satisfied, Bakugo lifted Denki up. The electric blonde laughed as Bakugo gently placed them in the shower to wash themselves. Bakugo got out early, quickly drying off before padding out of the bathroom to change the sheets for Denki. The two cuddled on the fresh sheets for a few minutes before falling into blissful dreams.
Everybody loved the tattoo, though both Mic and Aizawa nearly fucking died when they first saw it. Shinso and Eri thought it looked badass, and Monoma admired the coloring. His family over in America adored it too, but Venus did voice her concern when Denki spoke of how numb his skin got after the tattoo. Ereku eased her worry, though, saying it was common for the skin of electric users to be more susceptible to numbing.
Kirishima and Sero applauded the pain tolerance, Mina asked where he got it done, Jiro and Momo asked if he had any couple tattoo ideas (since they heard it was addicting). When he went to work, he was met with acceptance: his students all screamed in awe, Nezu immediately understood the meaning and praised the craftsmanship, and Shimura, Iguchi, and Toga complimented him. The public also loved Denki's tattoo, it wasn't surprising that his first sit down interview following his tattoo debut finished off with the question Denki had been waiting for.
"Why did you get the tattoo?" the interviewer, a notable talk show host, asked. His face was contorted with curiosity. Denki smiled softly, tilting his head to the side like a puppy.
"Because I wanted to show my son that people like us are strong," the audience murmured a bit before going silent, "some know of what happened to my son prior to Dynamight and I adopting him, but not many know that I too was subjected to similar trauma as a child. A family member would regularly violate me in such ways. I never really told anybody, I never thought I needed to,"
"I suppose when your son began being harassed for his past, it must have been hard. So, you got the tattoo because you were finally going to tell your story, in order to protect your son. Very noble, Chargebolt,"
"Only a few very trusted people know of what happened to me. I think a part of me was always scared of being judged, which is why I wanted to finally come out. I wanted to show that anybody who has suffered like this, not just my son and I, are strong and brave. That we may be victims, but you should not be ashamed. You are stronger than most people will ever know, and I applaud those who have the strength to be open about what happened to them. It took my child being harassed to finally see that I needed to come out,"
"What do you wish to say to those who disagree with your opinion? The victim blames and such," the host queried his brow. Denki merely smiled slyly and held up his hand, sparks dancing between his fingertips.
"If anybody wants to continue their victim blaming, they can take it up with me personally. I'll happily fold any bitch like an origami crane if they want to challenge my moral character," the host clapped loudly, as did the crowd.
The interview went viral in America and Japan and Denki's was facing a whole slew of support and slander. That didn't matter, though. He laid in his huge bed, with his number two hero husband hugging him close and his beautiful son cuddled up in his arms.
Haters were going to hate, his life was perfect regardless.
