Chapter Nine: Reunion

Death brings more people together than one would think, especially for Denki.

When Denki blinked, he noticed many things at once. For one, he was no longer in his hospital bed. Instead, he was at the tree that held so many memories for him: his first date, his proposal, his wedding, and so many other events. The tree was in bloom and the field was green as could be, with a vibrant fuchsia and golden sky above. All of this was strange because a forest fire had recently destroyed the tree and the meadow. It broke Bakugo's heart when he heard about their spot being charred to soot. Denki, unfortunately, couldn't remember the place because of his illness. Looking at his hands, he realized the pruning of age had disappeared, and he felt stronger than before he passed. He felt young again.

He stood up, cautious in case this wasn't a dream. He felt a slight breeze pick up his long hair, hair that was down to his butt. Denki hadn't had his hair that long since he was in his late thirties, he always kept it to his shoulder blades after a villain tried to choke him with his own braid. But, he knew he was younger than that still, because he was missing a gnarly scar on his abdomen that he got not long after he turned thirty after being stabbed. That's when he noticed his clothing: a loose white blouse, white yoga pants, and no shoes. The ground felt so real, this all felt so real. He could hear birds and animals in the neighboring woodland area, smell the blossoms and fresh grass, feel the cool blades and sturdy trunk of the tree.

"This place is so quiet," a familiar voice broke the silence. Denki turned and saw Bakugo, in his late twenties, wearing something similar to him. Neither of them showed any remote signs of aging, it was as if time had rewound itself.

"It was always this quiet, nobody knew since it was our spot," Denki replied, smiling. Bakugo chuckled softly, snagging Denki's hand and kissing it before tugging him to the field below. The two laughed like small children at their replenished energies and stamina. They rolled in the grass, chased each other, as if this was their puppy love phase all over again. Bakugo tackled Denki gently at the base of the tree as they made their way up the hill, kissing him passionately.

"I missed being able to chase you, I should've done it more before my knees caved,"

"I'm surprised your knees went first with those death pads you had on our costume," the two laughed before cuddling into each other. They stayed that way for a few minutes, absorbed in their youthful bodies and regained energy. That is, until Aizawa stood above them.

"You took great care of my son, Bakugo," he said with a soft smile. The two sat up and Denki nearly sobbed as he jumped up to embrace Aizawa. He hadn't seen the man in three decades, he had died in his sleep not long after losing Mic, who had died of cancer in his throat. Aizawa lovingly embraced Denki tightly, brushing his hair.

"I missed you, dad! So much!"

"Well, damn, I hope you missed me that much too!" Mic screeched from down the hill. Denki ran and jumped into his arms, causing Mic to fall over with him in his embrace. The two laughed as Aizawa helped Bakugo up. Mic and Denki sat up, and Venus and Ereku sat beside them. Venus had been in a car accident and Ereku had a seizure while taking a bath. Denki immediately embraced his other parents tightly, crying. Bakugo gazed lovingly at Denki before he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see his parents, smiling at him with a gentleness they rarely showed him. They had both died younger than the others, a villain attack had taken both their lives a few years after he and Denki got married. Bakugo began to cry as he embraced his parents, the two hugging back.

"I hope there's a hug for me in store," Shinso snarked, smirking when Denki shot up and hugged him. Shinso and Monoma had died on a mission when in their late thirties. He missed the two so much, which is why Monoma also got a huge hug. Others began to show up: Midoriya, Ochako, Mina, Kirishima, Sero, Todoroki, Jiro, Momo, basically all of Class A and B, along with a few friends that the two had met along the way.

For what seemed like hours, Denki and Bakugo reunited with their friends and family. All seemed normal for the most part, it became obvious that this would be their eternity. But, one person Denki hadn't seen in close to ninety years appeared before him.

"Hotaru? Is that finally you?" Denki felt his mind whirl as quick as his head did when he looked toward the voice. Only one person in his entire existence ever called him Hotaru, the Japanese name for firefly. Standing a bit a ways from everyone was a woman with a blonde ponytail down her back, ember eyes, and warm glowing skin. Denki began to tear up as he ran to her.

"MAMA!!!" he crushed her in his arms, "mama, mama, I missed you so much, mama," he whimpered as she carded her nails through his hair. He was an inch or so taller, so he had laid his head on her shoulder and cried into her neck. Tears poured faster than he had thought they would, but Hayami didn't mind if her white gown was getting wet, she was so happy to be able to embrace her son again. Everybody watched the two finally meet again. When Denki finally released her from his hug, she cupped his cheeks and gave him the most warm and kind smile.

"You truly did take after me in terms of looks, huh? I'm sorry I left you so young, I would've done anything to go back to you. But, you had such an amazing life. So many friends, a great husband, a lovely kid, and a job you enjoyed. You lived an amazing life, my sweet little Hotaru. I am so proud of the hero, husband, father, and overall man you became," she kissed his nose. He held her hands over his cheeks, just so he could make sure she was really holding them. He had missed her touch, he never forgot how soft and gentle her hands always were. Denki finally seemed to remember there was an audience, so he gently guided his mom over to the group.

"Mama, you have to meet everyone!" he chirped excitedly. The group openly accepted her and everyone began introducing themselves. When it got to Venus and Ereku, it wasn't as awkward as Denki thought it would be. Venus and Hayami seemed to click right away, almost as if they were friends from the beginning. Mic and Aizawa also got along well with her, so it seemed to be all smooth sailing. When Hayami finally was introduced to Bakugo, she clasped her hands around his and gave a wide smile.

"You took such wonderful care of my Hotaru, I truly owe you so much! You are a good soul, and a good man! I am truly blessed to have you as a son-in-law!"

"Don't praise me too much, Denki saved me a lot more than I saved him," Denki looked at him with widened eyes as Bakugo gently tugged him into his side. One of Bakugo's arms gently wrapped around his waist, "Denki gave me a life I never knew I wanted and taught me a lot about myself. He helped me learn that it's ok to rely on others, he showed me that strength is more than physical ability, and he gifted me with so much love and loyalty. Your son was and always will be my soulmate, I never would have been who I am without him,"

"Katsuki," Denki whispered as a small stream of tears fell from the corners of his eyes. Bakugo wiped them and kissed his cheek, letting Denki snuggle into his chest and nuzzle into his neck. Bakugo's smile was soft and meaningful, his heart pounding even in death at the touch and affection Denki gave him. Hayami knew this man loved her son, it was obvious in his eyes.

"In this world, you can't really go to your funeral. It should be over by now, time is weird here. But, you can visit your grave, would you like to?" Hayami asked. Denki and Bakugo looked at each other before nodding. Hayami had put her palms to their chests, and suddenly there was a flash of white and the two were at their graves. They had been buried together, side by side. Both graves were filled with flowers, some dead, showing that at least a few weeks had passed since the funeral.

That's when Kenji showed up, his wife, their daughter, and her husband in tow. Kenji had married a lovely girl he met in college named Ruma and had one child they named Suma. Suma married her high school sweetheart, Zen. Suma seemed to look bigger than the last time the old couple had seen her. Both couples were holding hands before going to place new flowers on the grave.

"Papa, Dad, Suma has some wonderful news!" he exclaimed as Suma's husband knelt down and placed an envelope behind one of the vases.

"You guys would've been great grandpas! Two girls! Zen and I already decided on their names!" she cheered, "Denchi and Katsumi, after their great grandpas who were part of the world's best generation of heroes!"

"We hope you'll watch over us as angels, even in your elderly age you two were still heroic by nature. We and the rest of the world miss you greatly," Zen expanded, bowing, "until next time, grand fathers,"

"Bye, Granpops and Poppy!" Suma blew a kiss to the grave. Denki brushed over her belly, making her tingle a bit and rub her belly where his hand was, "these little ones are already boisterous, I hope they level out like Granpops did eventually," Suma joked as she kept walking. Denki then walked over to Kenji and Ruma, who both remained kneeling at the grave. He embraced them both.

"I'm so proud of you," he whispered, causing Kenji to start crying as if he had heard it. Bakugo took them from the front, placing a hand on each of their cheeks and giving their foreheads a kiss. That's about when they faded back to the hill that overlooked the meadow, all of their friends were gathering and partying. It was as if they were living once more.

And as Denki and Katsuki gazed at their friends and family, they shared a tender kiss below the blossoming tree. Denki, ever playful, bit his lip, causing Bakugo to jolt away. Denki then ran towards the meadow, chanting a playful taunt to his soulmate. Bakugo laughed and ran after him, the two joining their friends in the field.

And in the real world, the tree would begin to heal, as a flower bloomed in the exact spot Denki and Bakugo shared so many flashbacks.
