Crash & Burn
Allegra and Dorian stood before a table and two chairs draped with white silk and lace. Behind those are white roses. White roses also litter around the Flipinoe chapel. One the rosewood pews, white roses and white lace decorate the edges that point to the aisle.
Allegra dressed in a white dress and Dorian in a tux, a priest standing between them.
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the bonding of Allegra Valencia and Dorian Hernández. We will now say the vows"
Allegra and Dorian look at their families. A smiling face on all of them.
Dorian looks at his fiancée, "First and foremost, I just want to say that I love you before I forget." Allegra giggles. "I fell in love with you the first time I saw you. At that auditorium. We were competitors... and that blinded me. I was so focused on winning that it hardened my heart and I'm sorry for that. My eyes were opened when I--we--lost our arms in that bus accident. I wouldn't be here if not for that bus driver." Dorian looked past Allegra at the bridesmaids. "I vow to be with you wherever we go out and stand with you. To open the doors for you and shake everyone's hands even if I personally don't want to." This got a chuckle from the audience. "I also promise to stick with you and your family--"
"Our family," Allegra corrects.
"Yes, our family." Dorina looked out into the crowd. At his mother and father and at his mother in law and many sisters and brothers in law. A smile spread across his face.
He isn't an only child.
Not anymore.
"Miss Allegra go when you're ready," the white collared man said, nodding at the bride.
"Dorian, you have taught me that two people joined together with respect, trust, and open communication can be far stronger and happier than each could ever be alone. You are the strength --and structure-- didn't know I needed, and the joy that I didn't know I lacked. Today, I choose to spend the rest of my life with you."
Claps can be heard from family and friends.
Dorain whispered, "I didn't know you could be so traditional with your vows."
"Well, I didn't know that you could be so funny with yours," Allegra said with a wink and a giggle.
"With this ring, I thee wed Allegra and Dorian," the priest said after the bride and groom stopped whispering like children and stood tall.
Dorian slipped the wedding ring on Allegra's left hand and Allegra slipped a matching ring on Dorian's right hand. She frowned at the limp, tux sleeve that now makes up Dorian's left arm. The arm of which a hand with a wedding ring should be on. Dorian notices this and puts his right hand over his heart.
Allegra smiles.
"If there are no reasons why I should pronounce--"
The capel doors opened and a very familiar woman walked through the door.
A bus driver.
The exact bus driver that caused the whole tragedy.
The audience gasped excepally Allegra's and Dorian's family members.
"Wait a minute," she said, wagging her pointer finger as she leaned on the door frame; huff and puffing, catching her breath. "I'm not missing this."
Another grasp is heard from the capel pews.
"No, you are! You are definitely going to miss this wedding," Dorian's mother said standing up. "You ruined my son's life. He doesn't have a left arm thanks to you."
"But I didn't mean it," she pleaded.
Allegra's mother was the next to stand up, "Allegra, sweetheart you don't have to do anything. This is your wedding. I cann just excourt her away. She can't hurt you anymore."
"Stop..." Allegra quirky pleaded.
"Excuse me lady," Maudlin said, taking a step forward, "but I am friends with the bride, Allegra."
Allegra looked to Dorian with a worried expression, then at her family and family in law. "Guys..."
The two mothers plus Dorian's father walked down the aisle toward Maudlin and Maudlin did the same.
"Look here drunk," Allegra's mother said, spitting the word and stomping her way there, "My sweetheart Allegra just wanted an amazing wedding. She didn't want the disaster of you showing up ruining it." She stabbed a finger at Maudlin.
Allegra looked down in shame.
Dorian's mother added, "Yeah, you better go back from that alley that you came from and ever come back. Dorian never wanted to see you since that day--"
"Mom!"
Dorian yelled the word, to halt his mother from going any farther. The attendance all stared at the groom. "Allegra, sweetness, will you please explain to them."
No one dared to breathe as she spoke. "I invited Maudlin to our wedding."
Well, everyone but Dorian's mother. "But--"
Dorian glared at his mother. She shut her mouth.
"Maud, will you please explain to them?" Allegra said in a strong voice.
Maudlin nodded and told the story of what happened after their story, "After Allegra and Dorian got hit during my bus hours with me being drunk. My driveing liscen was revoked and left me jobless." She looked at Allegra's and Dorian's protective mother's. "You are right. I am a drunk." Her face which was downcasfed at the time shook as tears fell from her cheeks.
Her sobs echoed in the capel. The evening that said the wedding was a happy tone has now been drowned with sadness by a drunk's tears. "I barely have enough r-rent to pay for the crappy apartment I'm staying in. Soon I w-will be on the streets and I probably w-will live in an alleyway."
As Maudlin finished a few other people were stifling their tears and the etire congregation was as silent as they could be.
"Maud, will you please come up here?" Allegra said, breaking the silence and holding out her only hand. Maudlin nodded, nodding off her tears for the time being. Maudlin made her way to the empty spot to the right of Allegra, where the bridesmaids were.
Maudlin smiled.
Allegra smiled.
Dorian smiled.
Allegra looked to the priest. "Can you please continue?"
"Oh, yes," the priest said, clearing his throat. "Will you Allegra Valencia marry Dorian Hernández?"
"Yes."
"Will you Dorian Hernández marry Allegra Valencia?"
"Yes."
"Then without farther ado, I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
Allegra and Dorian connect their lips together and cheers erupt from the crowd and Maudlin who wraps her arms around Allegra. Half for congratulating and half for support.
Allegra laughs and with the weight of Maudlin leaning on her she falls on Dorian.
"I guess you can say that I fell for you," Allegra remarked. She patted on the carpeted flooring then slapped her hands mimicking a rimshot. Dorian laughed.
"Now, who's ready for the money dance?" Allegra said, getting off from the floor.
