Raging Inferno

"Oh wow!" I breathed looking out the window of the plane as it circled over Honolulu Airport. "The islands look amazing!"

"They sure do." Paul chuckled leaning into me to look out the window as well. "But do you know what looks even better?"

"What?" I asked, looking at him.

"You." He chuckled before giving me a kiss.

"Get a room, you two." Gene made a disgusted sound crossing his arms. I blushed and pulled away from Paul, before turning my gaze back out of the window as the plane landed.

Once we got off the plane, we gathered our luggage and piled into a limo. Our hotel overlooked the beach and venue we were performing at tomorrow. But the only thing on my mind was getting onto the beach, today! The last coastal cities we were in, it was too damn cold to go to the beach. So, needless to say, I was fucking excited. Especially since, I started not feeling well recently. Paul and the other's had been worried, but I waved it off as food poisoning from one of the restaurants we ate at the other day. When Paul and I got to our suite, I dashed into the bedroom, leaving my laughing boyfriend behind and quickly set up my trunk before digging out my bikini. Not paying Paul any mind, I stripped out of my travel clothes and threw on a cotton sundress before grabbing my beach tote and enlarging it. For some nagging reason, something told me to take my trunk as well. So, I closed up my luggage and shrank it down. Because we would be off continent for a while, I had to pack up my entire room and turn it back into a cabinet. So, I had put my dice bag in my trunk since there was no expansion charms on it. Slipping my trunk into my tote, I put on my sandals and made for the door.

"That eager for the beach?" Paul asked following me into the living room area.

"Uh, yeah! It's been forever since I've been. Let alone in Hawaii!" I replied grabbing the door handle. "Are you coming?"

"I'll be down in a few." he said as I walked out of our room.

Walking at a fast pace with a giddy smile on my face, I took the stairs instead of the elevator and as I passed through a particularly dark landing, I suddenly felt hands wrap around me and pull me into the shadows. A muffled scream escaped me as I was pulled through darkness before blacking out. When I finally came too, I didn't feel the ground under me. Slowly blinking my eyes as they adjusted to the gloom in front of me, I saw I was in an old, abandoned church. Panic set in as I tried to move, only to hear the rustle of chains and someone tugging on my arms and legs. Looking at my appendages, I saw they were wrapped in chains, and I was held in the air by them in front of a busted-out window. Fear gripped me as I looked for a way to free myself. Not seeing a way as I still had no control over my KISSterian powers, and my wandless magic was limited to Protegro, Expecto Patronum, Lumos Maxima, Muffliato, Accio, and Nox.

"Struggling won't help, little witch." a deep voice chuckled as a shadowy form seemed to emerge from the gloom. "But don't worry, your precious Starchild will be here soon enough. As well as the other Guardians."

"What have you done to me!" I snarled feeling like I was drained of energy and magic.

"These chains are designed to drain the energy of their captive. Imagine my surprise when they practically latched onto you and turned such a rich silver." the shadow chuckled again while seeming to circle me.

"W-who are you." I demanded trying to break free from the chains. My hair fell in my face, and I gasped seeing it had turned silver.

"I am Draven, last of the Shadow Clan." the shadow replied rising up as a shadowy hand grabbed my chin. "My, I can see why the Starchild is so taken with you. Eyes like sapphires and hair that was once like fire."

I could feel eyes roving over my hanging form before landing on my amulet.

"Well now. You aren't just a witch, but a member of the Mythos Clan. My mistress will be pleased to hear that one survived, only to fall at my hands." Draven purred before receding back into the darkness. "Rest though. For the show will begin tomorrow."

Fear rose within me as I was left in total darkness, as the sun had set during our conversation. Remembering what Gene had said in the Scooby-Doo movie, I grit my teeth and forced my fears down where I could feel a raging inferno form. Opening my mouth, I unleashed a torrent of flame, giving me a brief look of the chapel. Corpses were everywhere, all skeletons by now. When the flames died down, I was left in darkness once more. Did Paul and the others know I was captured? Where I was? Squeezing my eyes shut, I sifted through my memories looking for a happy one. Our Christmas movie marathon!

"Expecto Patronum!" I shouted as my left hand glowed a silver color before a spectral dolphin appeared, swimming around the room before stopping in front of me. "I need you to send a message to Starchild."

The dolphin did a flip before looking at me intently.

"Paul, I've been taken by a member of the Shadow Clan, called Draven. He's using me as bait to lure you and the guys to my location. Please, please be careful!" I said before nodding to the dolphin. It flipped once more before swimming off and through the wall.

"How rude of you." Draven's voice echoed around me in a hurt tone. "You're ruining the fun, Little Witch."

"I'll ruin a lot more if that's what it takes to protect my friends." I sneered as my eyes scanned the room.

"Is that so? Tell me, how close are you to the Starchild? It must be very close if you've conceived his spawn." Draven purred as I felt tendrils of cold energy brush against my body. What? I'm pregnant? "Oh, the shock on your face is priceless. I wonder how the Starchild will react when I tell him about his spawn before I kill you and it."

"KISS will stop you." I stated lifting my head defiantly.

"Oh, will they now?" Draven scoffed. "I am the master of shadows."

"All I see is a cowardly little bitch who is too afraid to even face me on equal terms, using cursed items to restrain a true master of power and the arcane." I spat. Suddenly a stinging pain erupted across my cheek before burning as I felt blood well up. "Fucking cunt."

"You have a dirty mouth on you." Draven said. The feeling of eyes roaming my body made me feel disgusting. "Hmm, those boring clothes don't suit you at all. After all, tomorrow is your big show."

A cold feeling washed over me as I felt my sundress and bikini disappear and being replaced by something else.

"What did you do to my clothes." I demanded.

"I simply changed them to something more befitting of a member of the Mythos Clan, is all. I'm not so cruel as to make you look pitiful for your funeral." Draven replied in a bored tone. "Now, my order still stands. Rest for your big day tomorrow."

Silence filled the chapel again as I let my head sag. Tears filled my eyes, and I couldn't help the sobs that shook me and the chains. Draven is going to tell Paul the news and then kill me, breaking my beloved. Even when my tears ran out, I hung there in the darkness trying to fight off sleep. But it soon overtook me, and I was left to hang in silence. When dawn came, the light woke me and gave me a chance to see what I was wearing. It was a flaming red dress with gold designs on it. The bodice was strapless with a sweetheart neckline and two bands that wrapped around my back. On my neck was some sort of choker with yellow gem that rested at the top of my cleavage. The shirt of the dress flared out in layers, while my feet were left bare. Dread filled me as I looked around the now lit room. My pink beach tote was sitting on the ground underneath me, seemingly having been placed there with care.

"Awake, I see. Good." Draven's deep voice purred as the shadowy form stepped into the weak light. "It won't be long now. My shadows report that KISS is near, and they received your message. That messenger of yours was impossible to stop."

"A Patronus is the true enemy of darkness and evil. Just like you." I snarled trying to lunge at the shadow figure, but the chains stopped me, and I could feel my energy being drained.

"How pitiful." Draven sneered before looking out the window behind me. He saw something. Casting out my aura, I felt four energies enter the meager radius. One purple, one red, one green, and one blue. "Ah, it looks like our guests have arrived."

Just as he said the last word, the doors at the other end of the room were reduced to ash by a torrent of fire. Looking through the flames, I saw KISS standing outside and looking pissed. Joy filled me as I leaned forward.

"STARCHILD!" I screamed locking eyes with him. His expression flashed with relief before becoming cold with rage when he saw the chains.

"Draven!" roared Paul as he and the guys flew into the room, lighting it up with their auras.

"Ah, The Starchild. Come for you little pet?" Draven purred as I felt cold hands on my shoulders. "Well, I should say pets. The Little Witch warned you, and yet you still came. How irresponsible of you."

I felt claws like ice dig into my shoulders.

"Tell me, what would you say if I told you that there is a sixth person here? Well, not quite a person yet, I suppose." Draven cooed moving from behind me to stand at the base of the alter I was hanging above.

"What are you talking about." Paul demanded.

"Why your spawn of course." Laughed the shadow making Paul's expression change from rage to horror. "To bad it'll never experience a meaningful existence."

Oh no. Paul's horror turned back into rage as he charged at Draven. The shadow easily dodged before hitting Paul in the back and sending him crashing into the wall. Gene joined in the fight with flaming fists as Ace began firing lightning from his hands.

"Catman, get Ava out of here!" Paul ordered Peter, who nodded and flew towards me.

"Ah, ah, ah. Not so fast." Draven chided as shadow beasts tackled Peter. My eyes widened in horror as the chapel became filled with the creatures.

It was an uneven and unfair fight. I could only watch helpless as the guys fought off the beasts. When one fell, two would form and take its place. They needed my help and I needed my wand. Looking at the chains, I followed them to see they were bolted to the ceiling and floor. With how old the chapel obviously was, I could probably pull them out of their anchors. Grabbing the chains around my arms, I began pulling on the left one while keeping an eye on the fight. It was not going well for the guys. Blood oozed out of multiple wounds, and it looked like Peter's arm might be broken. Gritting my teeth, I looked back at the anchor of the chain I was pulling on and grit my teeth. Mustering what strength I could, I pulled even more. Pain flared in my left arm from the strain, but with a cry, I pulled it free, and the fight paused as everyone looked at me when the anchor fell to the floor with a clang. Panting heavily, I looked at the beasts closest to me and roared while swinging the limp chain. The shadow beasts that were hit with the chain immediately evaporated when making contact with the cursed metal. Shaking my arm, the loose chain slithered off and fell to the ground in a heap, turning to a rust color before crumbling to dust. Gritting my teeth again, I grabbed the chain around my left leg and pulled, channeling my inner tiger. That chain broke free before also turning to dust. Seeing me making my escape, the beasts began charging at me now.

"Ava!" Paul shouted as he and the guys jumped on the attack.

"Focus on Draven and his fucking minions!" I yelled freeing my right leg. Once both my legs were free, I was left hanging by my right arm. With no leverage anymore, I was left to swing around wildly while kicking away and beasts that came near me. Looking around, I spotted my tote again and held out my left arm. "Accio Wand."

My wand came flying out of my bag and into my outstretched hand. I wasted no time pointing my foci at the last anchor.

"Bombarda Maxima!" I said. A massive explosion shook the chapel as I dropped to the floor. Due to hanging for who knows how long, my legs couldn't hold my weight and I crumpled to the floor.

Shadow beasts circled around me, blocking me off from any escape. Feeling was slowly coming back to my legs as I crawled over to my tote and shrank it before stuffing it down my cleavage. One of the snake like beasts tried to strike me, but I scrambled back in time. The circle was getting smaller and smaller by the minute. Swallowing thickly, I could over roll onto my stomach and cover my head as the creatures pounced on me. The feeling of the teeth and claws made me scream before shifting into my animagus form and throwing them off with a roar. The guys looked at me in shock briefly before trying to subdue the shadows. With gnashing teeth and flashing claws, I joined the fight and even swallowed the fear filling me, giving me the ability to breath fire again. I'm sure seeing a fire breathing tiger was not on the guys' bucket list. Eventually, I made it to the guys and shifted back slinging spells and using shields to fend off the creatures. As the sun began to shine through the window, I could feel my power returning. The same power I felt in San Diego.

"They just don't stop." Ace panted shooting back a shadow bull.

"We have Ava, we should leave." Gene grunted punching a wolf.

"Not so fast." Draven snarled as the shadow beasts backed off and the surrounding shadows grew denser and looked to be bubbling before tendrils shot out and began forming a massive dragon with blood red eyes.

"Guys, dragons are nearly impossible to kill." I warned them as we tried backing up. A wall of shadow rose from the ground and blocked the door.

"Nearly impossible." Gene pointed out. "But not impossible."

The dragon roared and shot a torrent of black fire at us, forcing us to dodge in various directions. Watching the beast, I saw it was trying to avoid the sunlight coming through the window and the hole I blasted in the roof. Wait... a shadows enemy is light. Closing my eyes, I let my building power flow through me like water. Opening them, I saw my hair was flowing on an invisible breeze again as the golden aura. The dragon turned to me and roared as I began to rise in the air and hover in front of the window. Baring my teeth, I brought my hands horizontally flat in front of my before focusing the energy into my hands as I slid them in opposite directions and in a large circle as a ball of golden light orbited by flames began to form in front of me.

The dragon lunged at me as I brought my hands to either side of the ball. I was about to send it flying at the massive beast when its jaws clamped down around me.

"AVA!" Paul screamed from somewhere as the dragon's tongue pushed me into the back of its throat and down its gullet.

Tumbling through the shadow, I eventually stopped in what must have been its stomach, but I just floated there, glowing like a beacon. Tendrils began lashing out at me, forcing me to dodge and blast with my power. A few landed hits on me, leaving gashes and bruises behind. Muffled fighting could be heard outside the shadows and the roar of the dragon was deafening. As I continued to dodge and weave, my energy was draining fast as I haven't even trained my KISSterian powers yet. Nausea was building within me, and I tried to force my stomach to keep where it was, but my efforts were futile. Hunching over, I dry heaved in the darkness and felt drained. My golden aura was flickering and that meant I was almost out of power.

"How pitiful." Draven sneered around me. "How weak."

Something hit my back making me cry out and fall forwards.

"You call yourself a master of power and the arcane, and yet here you are, a light about to flicker out of existence." Draven appeared suddenly before me, my aura illuminating a gaunt and pale face with three black slashes forming on the left of his forehead, down to his right jaw. "I expected more from you, Little Witch."

"You're going to fail." I hissed. "KISS will be triumphant."

"We shall see." Draven hummed before disappearing back into the darkness.

"Damnit." I cursed as my power flickered again. A muffled cry of pain came from outside the darkness. That was Paul! "Starchild!"

"And so, falls the Starchild." Laughed Draven. No.

"NO!" I screeched gathering my power to my magical core and merging it all together as I curled in myself.

I could feel my magical core overloading and beginning to crack as my aura began to brighten. Mixing my KISSterian powers with my magic was my last chance and hope.

"LET ME GO!" I roared as a Phoenix's cry overlapped my voice. My magical core shattered as I threw my arms and legs out. Silence came from outside and around me before light and fire erupted from my chest and filled the darkness with blinding power and energy.

"NO!" Draven yelled as the fiery form of a familiar Phoenix flew out of my chest behind the light and punched through the shadow dragon, releasing my power into the outside world. The deafening explosion that followed threw me back onto the ground outside the beast.

Blinking away the spots in my vision, I slowly rose to my feet and looked around. The guys were laying scattered about what was once the chapel and was now just smoldering ruins. After a few minutes, the band began to stir and get up.

"Ava!" Paul shouted making to run towards me but stopped as a deranged chuckle sounded in my ear as something cold was pressed to my neck.

"Not a step closer." Draven growled pressing the blade in his hand against my skin. "Your little witch managed to defeat my dragon, but in the end I've still won."

My eyes widened as the blade cut deep into my neck and was slowly dragged across my flesh. Grabbing Draven's hand, I enveloped us both in fire making him scream and jerk away. Unfortunately, he slashed the rest of my throat and blood sprayed out everywhere. Coughing, I felt my life's essence dribble from my lips as I clutched my wound. Panic set in and something snapped within me. A fail safe in my powers? Somehow, a wave of calm washed over me as my aura of flames turned on me and began burning away my body.

"Ava! No!" Paul rushed over and tried to reach out to me but jerked his hand back as the flames burned him.

"P-Paul." I choked out. The fire didn't hurt, it was comforting. Reaching a hand out of the flames, I cupped his cheek as tears welled in his and even my own eyes. This was my only chance to tell him, how I truly felt about him. Him and his human counterpart.

"Ava." Paul's hand covered my own, before my hand turned to ash at his touch, leaving a bloody handprint on his pristine makeup. My body was turning to ash as the flames flickered around me.

"I-I love you." I whispered trying to lean forward and kiss him. My head was barely out of the flames when he met me halfway. Closing my eyes, I kept my lips on his until I felt nothing.

Third Person POV

The other members of KISS could only watch in horror and shock as the flames devoured Avalon. Her body was turning to ash before their very eyes. Gene could see the tears pouring from the woman's closed eyes as she kissed Paul before turning to ash completely and drifting away on the wind. Paul fell to his knees when he no longer felt the lips of his beloved. Throwing his head back, he gave an anguished cry before slamming his fists on the floor. The act sent ash flying and revealed the woman's wand and family ring to him.

"Paul..." Gene said walking over to his friend. "She's not dead."

"How can you say that? Didn't you just see her turn to ash?" the devasted man looked up at his friend with an enraged expression.

"I did. But you're forgetting. Her power is Phoenix." Gene stated.

"Gene, man. Not now." Ace tried to stop the large man.

"So? She and my child are dead, and you're telling me she's not because of her powers?" Paul grabbed the ring and wand and stood up.

"He's right Paul. Ava isn't dead. She's regenerating somewhere." Peter explained as a bright red and gold bird landed near the ashes and trilled a sad song. "She doesn't just have the power of a Phoenix. She is a Phoenix."

"What are you saying? That she's out there somewhere?" Paul looked at the drummer with an incredulous look. "Then we have to find her."

"We will. But it's not going to be easy." Gene placed a hand on his friend's shoulder. "We don't know what her mental state is going to be like. She might remember us and know where to go next, or she could even revert to when we met her."

"Then how do we find her?" Paul asked.

"We keep doing tours until we find her and keep an ear out for someone with her description or if there is a musician going by her name or stage name." Peter said crossing his arms. "We don't have the time or power to search the globe with a fine-toothed comb."

Paul thought for a moment. Ava's last words rang in his ears as he looked at his friends. They had a point.

"Fine. I don't care how long it takes. Days or even fifty years from now. We have to find her."

"And we'll do that." Gene assured the singer.
