Harps could be heard, lyrical songs about death, surrounded the area. White flowers were spread about, as well as everyone dressed in white to match. A basic Elven funeral. White unlike black, which symbolizes death. Elves believed that after death we became pure once again. Out from the old life, into the new.
Forest and sky walked down the earthen ground on a white train hand in hand, their Uncle Roots not far behind. Heads bent down, and looking at their feet. Pain swept across their faces, both not wanting to be here at this exact moment. Everything happened so sudden, why did they lose both their parents at the same time?
"My condolences. "
"We're so sorry..."
"Such a loss..."
The words of tribe were heartfelt, but unnecessary. That's at least what both Sky and Forest felt. They ignored the saddening comments, and spoke to each other, quietly in the others head.
"I wish this was a dream." Sky's thoughts said
"Instead we're living a real life nightmare." Forests thoughts edged themselves into Sky's head.
"Brother tell me, Why them, why now? Sky's blue eyes looked back into Forests green ones.
"I have no idea sweet sister. All I know is, is this was no accident.
A gelid tear, streamed down Sky's pale cheek. Her big blue eyes became glassy. Just like all elves, they had no iris, no whites, they were just one big pool of color. Sky's blue like the blanket of blue air above. Her twin brother forests were as green as the wildwoods surrounding them. They looked so alike, besides their eyes, thus the names Forest and Sky.
Forest wiped her cheek and kissed her forehead.
"We must be strong now, they would have wanted it that way."
Sky nodded to her brother, and they kept walking down the white path. She swept back her Long glittering blonde hair, at that exact moment, forest did the same. Just as they were at birth sharing the same womb, they held an undeniable connection. Finally the twins came to stop at a pedestal. A prism quartz was atop the pedestal, as well as a painting of their parents behind it. They looked happy, content. Faye donned a lovely lace dress. Tomas sported a black tunic, and matching trousers. Sky's hand tightened around her brothers, as they both stared at the picture.
"I feel like my niece and nephew are a little too choked up for words right now." spoke Roots, hazel eyes shining. "I will give the spirits a take off, and if they wish to step in anytime, so be it."
Roots grabbed the quartz, and held it to his heart and started to hum, making the quartz vibrate, and play an eerie tune. He lifted it up over his head, and the tune kept playing. He then brought it back down to his lips
"My brother Tomas, Aye, he was a great man. He could fight off an army with his bare hands. His agility alone, would withstand the fastest beast alive. He always had it in him, as a child, but it wasn't until he met the beautiful siren Faye, that he came to greatness. She had the voice of an angel, it could captivate and entrance anyone who came in earshot. They made a great team, and they will be missed dearly, and I can assure you all, they will be even more powerful in their next life." Roots sighed as he looked at the ground beneath him choking back tears."
Forest put his hand on Roots' bowed down shoulder. With the other hand he grabbed the quartz. His turn to speak. To the tribe, and hopefully transmit a message to the recently deceased through the quartz.
"My parents have taught me so much, taught us all. I remember when Father gave me my first bow, made of birch, and the hair of a unicorn. It became my most prized possession, I wouldn't leave the house without it. At first my archery was beyond amateur, but my father coached me. Sometimes he was harsh, but his tough love was effective. My mother's gentle assurance kept my confidence, and finally I became one of the best bowsman in the tribe. I choose to bless that bow today with their ashes, that way they will always be there, to keep me going, to make me even better."
All eyes suddenly turned on Sky. A pale pink painted her porcelain cheeks, and she tried to revert her eyes from the crowd.Forest handed her the quartz
"This is so hard, " her words were a whisper.
"Look up sky, tell them how you feel. Be strong, remember what Mom and Dad always told you when your nerves took ahold. Remember these words . You're made of brick, not made of glass don't be scared to shatter, because you're made of brick, and not made of glass."
Sky laggardly raised her face. Her voice started out subdued, then with each word spoken it started to rise.
"I never thought this day would come. Here we are..." Sky took a deep breath.
The tribe waited, listening with ears, eyes and souls. Seeing this, made Sky uneasy. She took a deep breath, and thought of her mom singing My Starry night.
"My mom and dad, never deserved death. Death never deserved them."
Sky's bottom lip started to quiver. Her hands shook amok.
She coughed it all back.
"They were the most virtuous people I have ever known. They have taught me so much, but still not enough. I still feel weak, and I know they would never want that. I must become stronger now, because that is what they would want. My mother made this bracelet. She twined it by hand. She told me it had magical powers, that could make me invisible, when I preferred to hide. A part of me always knew it wasn't true, but that mere thought helped. Just like forest, I will be blessing it with their ashes. We are going to continue with the quest they were on. We will prevail, where they were defeated. I promise you all this, Forest promises you all this."
Pure silence, and the feeling of shock surrounded the Moonkara's. They didn't expect the twins to leave right away, but also knew It's what had to be done.
The quartz got passed around, and each tribe member had a turn to speak. Naami being the last.
Being the eldest of the clan, Naami had the most responsibility. Elves usually lived life how they wanted. Rules were loose, but peace still required some dominance. Naami was the guy you came to. He advised many ears, and solved many problems.
His lavender eyes grew milky. The tanned skin on his face grew tight, jaunt. Elves did not wrinkle like a human would with age. The skin instead tightened against their bones. He grabbed the quartz. He cleared his throat, as to prepare for his speech.
"I remember Tomas, and Faye when they were younger. Motivation always had been Tomas' string point. Faye always had that sincerity about her, that warmed the coldest heart. They helped shape this tribe, once they got together. Faye being from a tribe that had been raided by Orcs, and made to slaughter. Tomas found her, and our tribes combined. The remainder of Faye's tribe anyways. We all wouldn't be the same without the two of them. I will miss them dearly. They risked so much, and my shoulders have grown heavy with guilt. They have died because of me, because they vowed to protect my staff. I should be the one in their place."
Naami's face reverted away from the lingering eyes. His body shook maniacally. His head bowed down, and nestled in a wavering hand. Sky came up behind him, and held him in her arms. He turned towards her, and embraced her from the front.
"Never blame yourself, Naami." She kissed his cheek.
Forest and Sky huddled around him, as Sky rubbed at Naami's back. Naami sniffled, and collected himself. He faced towards the tribe, while wiping the last year off his boney face.
"Let it be" sang Naami
"Let these souls fly and find their way into another. It is their rite, so mote it be."
Naami threw the quartz in a steel bucket of ashes that lied under the portrait. Sky then threw in the bracelet, and Forest threw in his bow.
the rest of the Elven tribe continued to chant and bow in front of the Fallen's ashes
"Let it be."
"Let these souls fly, and find their way into another. It is their rite, so mote it be." Sang the tribe, as they made their way towards the ashes.
Sky and forest then lifted the bucket up high, and let the wind do its course, and sent the ashes flying away, the wind catching it, carrying it, spreading it. The souls of the fallen were now to find a new home. To search for an unborn soul to latch onto, and be reborn into a new
