The stillness in the air shuttered throughout all the creatures of Haven. It created a calm but vibrant feeling from deep inside their chests. Everyone knew what it meant. The time has come for the hatchlings to break from their pre-life tombs.

Enzemeen woke early, and stayed by Ghwendolyn's and Tyranus' sides. The flower  Kisses of the Sun surrounded them. They had a bright yellow glow in the middle, as if they collected pollen from the sun. The pink petals appeared to have tiny drops of dew running down them. The air had a sweet scent of honey and vanilla, as petals swayed about.

Three sets of eyes watched as the eggs basked under the sun. One of a Draconians, two more of parents waiting to see their kin.

"Exciting isn't it," whispered Enzemeen. "I remember the first time I witnessed a hatchling take over. My favorite part is when that little head…"

As she said the very words a tiny nose cracked it's way through the shell. Like a bird it pecked at the once solid, now half way between solid and mush wall that encased it. The nose was red, and a tiny crimson head managed to break its way out. Splotches of oranges and yellows made with camouflaged shape against its face. Its eyes peeled open slowly, blinking against the sun. They were the color of asphalt.

The neck came next, short and stubby - unlike mom and dad. It was followed by two stubby front legs covered in what appeared to be chunks of volcanic rock. The same rock-like texture covered it's belly and the underside of a long pointed tail. Sharp black stones were at the ends of its tail. The top layer of skin had that same color mix as it's face. Its wings were replaced by stubbs, not showcasing what they will look like fully grown. Just as most drakes wings do.

The drakes eyes, searched and it ran towards its parents. Ghwen lifted its tail with her nose. The hard ball of skin under its tail signified it's sex, male.

Ty looked back at his mate, and gave her a nod.

"We shall call him Brendon, Which in fairy means flames of life," said Ghwendolyn.

Tyranus nuzzled his mate, he liked the name and the meaning behind it.
The second egg toppled over, and Ghwen helped it back up with the end of her nose.

This time the nose looked like a dark pastel green. A teal patch surrounded it's left eye and a dark blue around its right. A long svelte neck like Ghwen's very own poked through ranging from the same green on its face down to a darker blue as it came down. As the skin ran down from its body, to its legs the skin got a dark cloudy look to it, like an overcast before a storm. It's underbelly was an onyx black. This one was a girl.

"Your turn, you name this one," said Ghwendolyn to her mate.

He looked at his young child. The darker blue reminded him of his mother, yet her underbelly matched his own lightning colored one. She also didn't have a cloud like colored skin against her legs and slowly fading into her sides. Her eyes were bright, like his mother. Almost blue, like a flash of thunderous bright light against a morning sky.

"Adalina, like my mother. I would love to name her after my mother."

"That's a great idea," said Ghwendolyn. "She's got your mother's eyes."

Now only one more egg to go.

Something seemed to be wrong though, as the final egg did not move, not even a millimeter. Both adult dragons turned their heads towards Mother Earth.

"Don't fret, my loves. Sometimes a Drake needs more time. It will come.

"How long though?" asked Tyranus, with a slight tremble.

"Be patient Ty, I know how worries you can get," said Enzemeen the Mother of Earth.

Ghwendolyn, who was only moment ago composed, had a look of worry.  Her emerald eyes grey wide. Her mouth twisted and her jaw clenched. Her wings shuddered, as she drew them in closer.

Usually Ghwen was the strong one. Usually she never got worried, but something didn't feel right.

She sniffed at the stationary egg, but she smelt nothing. She touched the shell with her cheek but it felt cold, lifeless. Her eyes looked back up at Enzemeen's looking for answers.

Enzemeen decided to feel the egg, search for some energy. She closed her eyes, as she placed it gently between her palms.

No tingle, no sudden surge of life.

She tried to focus harder. But yet, she came back with no results. Just yesterday the egg was thriving in energy. She could feel the young Drakes life force send tingles on the pads of her fingers. Now, she only felt the coldness that surrounded the egg. She did not understand, she never witnessed such a thing before, but something in the pit of her stomach told her that the Drake had died before it even had a chance at life. Enzemeen held the egg up to the sun. A frail body rested lifeless behind the oval seeds walls. Mother Earth's eyes became moist, as two drops slid down each cheek.

"I don't know what to say," her voice trembled.

Ghwendolyn's head lowered down as she turned it away, from Enzemeen's sight. Her body started to shake, her knees became wobbly, and with a heavy thump her stomach met the ground. Tyranus turned towards her. He came to her, and rested his neck against her back. He turned towards Enzemeen, Ghwen's head followed his. Both the dragons' eyes were squinting and blinking back tears. Enzemeen caressed Ghwendolyn's back as she let out soft, long breathes.

"What should we do now?" Tyranus asked.

"A proper burial, right under the nesting spot. You dig, and I will leave Amberroot to keep it from sinking, or moving as the earth shifts."

Tyranus dug a hole, as he watched his other two children snuggle into Ghwens side. They were too young to understand. Enzemeen tapped them, and they glanced up at her. She pointed towards The pink flowers that surrounded their nest. They did not need to be told once more, as their noses already told them that food was nearby.

Ghwen sat alone facing the other way, as the young ones frolicked in the plush flora. Enzemeen walked towards her hut, and a few minutes later she returned with a large thick root. The top and widest part was a deep red with layers of copper, then wispy layers of amber color at the ends. She enrolled around the egg. As she lodged more in the dirt hole. The two roots locked together keeping the egg tightly in place. Together Ty and Enzemeen buried the egg back under soft moist soil.

When it was done, Ty stared back at the freshly buried mound of Earth and wondered who the tiny drake trapped within its own shell could have been.
