3. Life

As the girl quivered on the floor, the two adults present fussed over her and held her down when her body jerked continuously.
"Shiru..." The woman trailed off, a worried note in her voice.
"I know Kaiede. But she's our daughter. And she can handle it. We must have faith." Shiru responded. Kaiede nodded.
Ash began to wake up just then, her scattered an jerky motions settling as her eyelids fluttered.
She woke up fully a few minutes later and sat up.
"Dear are you alright?" Kaiede asked.
Ash nodded.
"Yeah. I just had a flashback about how I died." She answered.
The two adults shared a look.
"It can be difficult." The man called Shiru conceded.
With a deep breath, Ash stood up, trying to keep her shaking legs steady so she wouldn't fall.
When she was steady, she turned to the two adults.
"I've been meaning to ask before I got sidetracked. Where are we? Why are we here? Who are you two?" She questioned.
It was Shiru who answered.
"This place, we don't know it's name, but we know that it's where those who cannot move on stay while some higher power decides what to do with them, for example, give them life anew, or if they haven't done anything to warrant going to hell but they haven't done anything to go to heaven either, among other things. As for who we are, I'm Shiru and this is my wife Kaiede. You see, we've been waiting here for you, we just wished that you hadn't come here so soon."
Ash tilted her head.
"I get the other stuff, but why were you waiting for me?" She asked.
Shiru and Kaiede shared a look.
"I think it's best you take a seat once more dear. We have a few things to explain.

"What?! That's not true! There's no way!" Ash exclaimed in response to the tale she had just been told.
She stared at them in a mix of shock and anger at the two people who were claiming to be her biological parents, instead of the ones she had left behind when she died.
"I know it's hard to digest. And I know you think us liars-"
"Of course it's hard to digest! You're trying to tell me that the world I've been living in for the past nineteen years was all a sham! And that the world I've been dreaming of living in is where I'm actually from! What am I supposed to think?!"
Ash continued to argue and pace.
But then her protests died in her throat as Shiru held out his hand and a ball of white hot flames formed upon it.
He walked to Ash and placed the fire in her hands.
She stared at it in her hands, mesmerized.
"You are our daughter. You have the powers of a Phoenix. Which means that you have the ability to come back to life. Haven't you ever wondered why you healed so fast? Or why you always loved to watch the flames roar in the fireplace? Or why the weather always changes when you're sad or angry? Or why you can always sense things before they happen? Those are all the gifts you been given from the gods of my world. And now, you have a chance to live life anew."
Ash looked up at him.
"But if I can be brought back to life because I'm a phoenix, can't you and Kaiede as well?" She questioned, sounding like a small child.
"Phoenix can be brought back from the dead, but only a limited amount of times. Unfortunately, this last life was my final one, where I met your mother, fell in love and had you, our little flame. You had such a promising life ahead of you. But it was cut so short." He said, his voice softening at the end.
Then Kaiede came up to them. She placed a hand on Ash's forehead. The girl's forehead glowed with a sigil of a phoenix as she closed her eyes. Images flashing before her eyes.
"I have given you the knowledge of all of our clan's jutsu. When you wake up, you will find a scroll that will assist you in this life Ash." She hugged the girl tightly just then, and Ash felt tears on her shoulder.
"I'm so sorry... I'm sorry that we couldn't be part of your previous life. And I'm sorry that we we won't be able to see you grow up in this one." She murmured softly.
Ash hugged the woman back.
"Don't go..." she whispered.
Kaiede smiled sadly.
"I wish we could stay, but you must live on Ash."
They started fading.
"No!" Ash shouted, grabbing for them but her hands just phased through helplessly.
"Stay strong Ash. We will always be with you in spirit. And you can ways contact us if you wish."
The place began getting brighter and brighter.
"It's time for you to change the world little one."
Ash screamed as the world went a blinding white and then black.
