Flamepaw yawned and padded into the apprentices den. She settled down in a nest beside Lionpaw who was fast asleep.

She suddenly saw a scratch appear on Lionpaw's side, it started to bleed furiously. What in the name of StarClan? She thought.

She gasped as more blood oozed out, she pressed some of the moss from her bedding onto the wound, and nodded when the blood stopped a bit.

She carefully raced out of camp and out into the forest. The sun was barely up; a cold breeze ruffled her ginger pelt.

She found two rocks laying next to each other, inbetween was a web made by spiders.

She carefully plucked some out and padded back to the camp.

She pressed the cobwebs to Lionpaw's wound hoping it would stop the bleeding, and it soon did.

Relief flooded over the flame-colored she-cat. But worry suddenly took her over again when she thought about how it could have appeared.

She settled down uneasily and fell into a deep sleep.

She awoke the next morning to find jaypaw asleep beside her nest. Flamepaw nuzzled his head gently.

He had always been the runt. She padded out and looked at the sky.
It was near sunrise. The sky was a pale scarlet, the clouds and sun a matching pale yellow orange.

Dew covered the leaves that were scattered around the clearing, the sun reflected off of them and made her pelt blaze like fire under the dawn sky.

Firestar padded out of his den and saw Flamepaw sitting by the apprentices' den, "Hello Flamepaw," he meowed, padding over.

"Hello Firestar," she replied looking over and dipping her head. "Do you need something?"

Yawning, she stretched and arched her back until her legs quivered.

"I want you to sleep some more, you look tired." Firestar meowed.

"Well... If you're sure." she yawned and padded back into the apprentices' den to settle down in her nest and fall asleep once more.

Firestar watched her go, then padded back up to his den in highledge.

Flamepaw woke once more to Lionpaw poking her with his paw. "Come on hunting patrol with me." He meowed demandingly.

"Alright," she yawned getting out of her nest and padding out then stretched, Jaypaw and hollypaw were right behind her.

"There they are!" Firestar meowed padding over.

"Hello Firestar," the four apprentices chorused.

Firestar let out a mrrow of amusement. BrambleClaw padded over and shifted his gaze over the four apprentices.

"Jaypaw and Flamepaw, your gonna train with your mentors, is that okay?" He looked to Firestar and their leader nodded. "Then Lionpaw your on a border patrol with Hollypaw, Ashfur, Graystripe, and Leapfoot,"

Each apprentice nodded, "Okay!" Then went off to forfill their duties.

Firestar led Sandstorm, Jaypaw, and Flamepaw to the training hollow while the other cats were gathering for patrols.

Flamepaw looked around. She knew SandStorm wanted her to help jaypaw.

"Hurry up Flamekit!" Jaypaw teased.

"Hey! Your the runt here!" She joked, walking quicker to keep up with the pale gray tom.

They soon got to the training hollow. Flamepaw whispered in Jaypaw's ear, "Remember, use your senses to know where I am and what I'm doing."

"Let's try what we were doing yesterday." Jaypaw meowed.

Flamepaw nodded in agreement, "You just nodded!" Jaypaw purred. Flamepaw let out a mrrow of amusement. "Good." She meowed.

She watched as Jaypaw crouched down. She reached out a paw to bat at Jaypaw's ear, he ducked and pawed at her muzzle.

Jaypaw shifted his gaze over the hollow until it landed on his mentor, who was sitting on the side with pride glowing in her eyes.

"You've both done really well." Sandstorm meowed. Flamepaw noticed that Firestar's and Sandstorm's tails were twined together.

"Keep practicing!" Firestar purred.

After a long time of training and hunting they all returned with prey, Flamepaw had caught a crow, a squirrel, and a mouse. Jaypaw had caught a mouse, a squirrel and a thrush. The mentors had caught rabbits and a squirrel each.

Flamepaw and Jaypaw padded to the fresh kill pile together and dropped their prey on top.

"Get some rest, you two." Firestar meowed after he placed his prey on the pile.

The two young cats nodded willingly and padded into the apprentices' den
