The temple on haunted hill
At Steep Wisdom was Wu training with Nya. Nya was trying to make the flow of water go backwards, but it didn't seem to work. "Concentrate. Focus on reversing the flow. Become the water, Nya. Embrace it. You can control it. Become the water ninja." He said before seeing the drops stopping, thinking Nya managed to reverse the flow. But then he saw that Nya was just blocking it with her hand, sighing. "I'm not the water ninja. I'm a samurai. I'm afraid my friends are in trouble, and I won't be there to help. We don't even know for sure if I have the power, so if everyone is waiting for me to discover I'm some sort of water ninja we've got a problem." Nya told him, not noticing how she made some lily pads move in the pond.
Soon Misako and Pyther headed up to them. "And maybe we have an even bigger one." Misako said before they lead them to the shop, Ronin looking around. "Your first problem is the opening of a tea shop in the middle of a dry season. Water's at a premium. Then there's the name. Steep Wisdom? Ugh. More like Steep Debt. I mean, heh, where are the customers?" He said and Wu looked at him confused. "Who is this strange fellow?" Ronin ignored him. "You need to have a name with pizzazz, like Curiosi-tea! Or Shake Your Boo-Tea! Heh! These are just off the top of my head. This place is a cluttered mess."Misako walked up to him. "Excuse me, but if you're not a customer, what are you doing in our shop?" She asked and Ronin smirked at them.
"You mean my shop." This made their eyes widen in shock. "Huh? What?" Wu said and Ronin chuckled. "Oh, right. They never told you. Name's Ronin. And since I'm now effectually the majority shareholder, I'm your new business partner. After the ninja and that sorceress lost the scroll of Who-whatzu to that Morro dude, I bailed them out in exchange for their shares in the tea shop. Since they destroyed my pawn shop, I thought it was a fair trade until I saw this sorry place. Ah." He informed and they all looked at eachother. "Don't tell me I have to share my stuff with him." Pyther said and Ronin shook his head. "Don't worry little serpent. You don't have to. Unless you want to make a deal." He smirked at him.
Nya stepped infront of Pyther protectively. "They didn't get the scroll of airjitzu?" She asked. "If they didn't get it, they'll never be able to follow the rest of the clues to the tomb of the first spinjitzu master." Misako said worriedly and Nya turned towards Wu with a determined expression. "Let me go. They need me more than ever." Ronin shook his head. "Relax, the ninja are fine. I told them another possible way they could get it. Don't you know in life, there's always second chances." He said and the others got confused. "What do you mean, another way?" Ronin smirked. "What? No one ever told you about Yang's haunted temple?" The others looked at eachother in concern.
The ninja and Selena was at the temple, together with a group being lead with Patty. "Welcome to Yang's haunted temple, the historical landmark and former home of Sensei Yang, the notorious sensei without a pupil, infamous for creating the lost martial art of Airjitzu. Unfortunately, we can't take our tour groups inside, for rumors say anyone trapped inside its walls at sunrise, will be turned into a ghost permanently. But, if you listen closely, maybe we'll be able to hear the ghost of Sensei Yang himself looking for his lost pupils." She informed the group who watched the temple in awe.
"I HOPE IT'S NOT A RUMOR, FOR IT'S OUR ONLY HOPE!" Zane shouted and the group glared towards him. "Ah, sorry about my loud friend. He's a little hard of hearing." Cole nervously said and Patty rolled her eyes. "Known for his unusual teaching methods ..." She continued and the others turned towards Jay. "I thought you said you fixed him?" Kaya said and Jay nervous chuckled. "At least he's no longer talking backwards. I guess my tinkering got his volume level stuck, hehe." Selena sighed. "And you're suppose to the good at technology." Jay just pouted at the insult. "ATLEAST YOU CAN UNDERSTAND ME NOW!" Zane shouted and got more glares before Patty just continued.
Cole turned towards him. "Well, from now on, only speak if you have something really important to say." Zane nodded and Kaya looked ahead. "Let's wait until the evening before sneaking in." Jay looked at both Cole and Kaya. "So you two really are the leader now, huh? Can't go wrong with that. I hope." Soon Patty looked at the clock. "Well, the sun is setting, which means we should head back to the bus. Wouldn't want anyone to turn into a ghost." She said before she and the group headed off.
When the sun went down, the ninja and Selena walked up to the door. "Selena, would you mind opening for us?" Kaya asked and Selena nodded before holding out her hand. "Optana!" Her magic went into the lock and unlocked the door, letting them inside. But when they walked inside, the door shut behind them and locked itself. "Selena, please tell me that was you playing a prank." Jay nervously said and Selena shook her head. "That wasn't me." She answered, making them all get a little spooked.
In a cave was Morro trying to figure out the next clue, as he'd summoned two more ghosts named Bansha and Ghoultar. "The second symbol. Can any of you decipher it? There was a reason why I brought you three out." He asked and Bansha nodded. "I can, but you'll need more than airjitzu to get there." She said and Soul Archer looked at her. "Are you suggesting, Bansha, that we'll need to possess a few more vessels?" Ghoultar floated over them, laughing. "Haha. Ghoultar likes! Ghoultar likes to take! Take now, heh!" Morro sighed. "Settle down, Ghoultar. Master would want us to be patient. I think I know where to pick up a few more...toys." He grinned, knowing where to look.
The ninja arrived at one of the temple's rooms. Suddenly a spider appeared infront of Cole's face. "Argh!" He exclaimed before Kaya put it on the ground and looked at him gently. "Relax, dear. If this place is truly haunted, we just need to wait until he shows himself." She said and Jay looked around nervously. "Uh, he should've been here by now." Cole looked at him. "You heard the tour guide, if we're not out by sunrise, we'll be ghosts." He said in fear and Selena rolled her eyes.
"You didn't buy into that malarkey, did you?" She asked and Cole scoffed. "Hey, I don't wanna be a ghost. Who wants to be a ghost? Why didn't anyone warn us this place would get so creepy after dark?" They all looked around before Zane found a book. "LISTEN TO THIS!" He exclaimed and Jay flinched before grabbing the book. "Argh! Allow me. Ahem. Whoa. It says here though many believed Sensei Yang's unusually strict teachings drove his pupils away, others admit to never seeing any of them leave the temple grounds, suggesting a more sinister plot. Hah! How awesome is that?" He laughed in excitement.
Selena looked at him in shock before turning to the others. "Is his head okay?" The others shrugged before Jay continued to read. "Yang was hard on his pupils for a reason, for in his words. As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student." Kaya held her hand over her chin. "Hmm. I wonder what he means by that." Suddenly they heard groans from the grandfather clock. "It's him. He's in the clock!" Cole exclaimed and Jay pushed him towards the clock. "You're the leader. Check it out." Hesitantly and fearfully, Cole opened the clock and a purple ghostly figure flew out, making the ninja scream in fear.
It soon disappeared and they heard Selena giggle. "Selena? You did that ghost?" Jay asked and Selena nodded. "Sorry. But I couldn't help myself. Plus it was a perfect use for my illusion spell." The others looked at her before letting out small laughs too. Suddenly they heard a thud from another room. "O-okay Selena, you can stop with the pranks now." Cole said and Selena looked at them in worry. "That wasn't me." She said before they heard the thud again. Slowly they headed towards the sound, leading them into a dojo. "Sensei Yang's dojo. This is where he must've trained his pupils." Kaya said and Jay held onto Zane, feeling scared. "Or got rid of them." They looked around. "Weird. There's nothing here that seems to have fallen. So what made the sound?" Cole asked
Suddenly they heard an unfamiliar voice. "As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student." The voice said all their eyes widened. Selena felt a presence with them. "We're not alone." She said before they all got more scared. "It's the ghost of Sensei Yang!" They exclaimed before Jay turned towards the others. "Uh, guys, what does he mean by, sharpen?" He asked before they saw swords floating in the air, turning towards them. "Let's not hang around to find out!" Cole shouted before they ran away from the swords. "Selena! Could you stop those swords?" Kaya asked before Selena tried her magic, but nothing happened. "My powers. They're gone!" They continued to run.
"Does this mean he doesn't want to teach us airjitzu?" Jay said in a scared voice. "Forget airjitzu, where's the window?" Kaya said before they tried to open a window, but it wouldn't budge at all. "Gah, we're caged in like animals!" Jay exclaimed before they heard Yang laugh. "Argh! Let's try the front door!" Selena suggested and Jay shook his head. "But that's downstairs, and in case you haven't paid any attention, there's flying weapons trying to slice and dice us!" Zane soon saw something. "THERE'S A DUMBWAITER!" They all soon went down to dumbwaiter, slowly. "You said there'd be enough room for all four of us in here." Jay complained and Zane glared at him. "MY CALCULATIONS ARE ALWAYS CORRECT!" Cole covered his ears in pain.
"Ow, my ear. Well, turn on a light or something, because I can't see a thing." Zane activated his light mode, revealing Yang. "As iron sharpens iron..." He said and they all screamed before jumping out of the dumbwaiter, Yang chasing them. "As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student!" He continued to taunt them before they reached the door. But when they opened it, they almost fell down, the ground being completely gone. "What is it? What's down there? Oh, wait, don't tell me! I don't want to know!" Jay exclaimed and Selena's eyes widened. "We appear to be trapped within some kind of inter-dimensional ethereal realm." She answered and Jay groaned. "Oh, I told you not to tell me, Selena! Knowing that just makes things worse!" Luckily they managed to get back inside, Yang's laugh echoing through the halls.
At Steep Wisdom was Misako serving a customer. "Thank you for coming back to Steep Wisdom. Here's a little something extra." She said and gave him an extra bag, when Ronin snatched it. "Whoa! We're a business, not a charity. We're here to make money, not friends." The customer scoffed and walked away, leaving Misako to sigh. "Thanks, and come again...I hope." Ronin walked to the waterfall and saw Nya trying to reverse the flow of water.
She growled before seeing Ronin and crossed her arms. "I'm not quitting, I'm just taking a break! You have to get me out of here." Ronin chuckled. "I thought you can't go until your training's done. Besides, I have a business to run." Nya looked at him with a pleading look. "If I'm gonna help the ninja, it's gonna be as Samurai X." She said and Ronin sighed. "Take the Bounty. Oh, I see. That would bring too much attention. Wu's my partner, I'd never do anything behind his back." Suddenly Nya held up a bag of money. "I'll give you a ride after we close." What they didn't know was that Pyther was watching them. "No way I stay out of it." He said and turned invisible.
The ninja and Selena managed to hide from Yang in another room. "Ah. All right, so there's no way out of the haunted temple, but at least all the commotion's died down." Jay said and the others nodded. "Yeah, we just gotta get through the night together. Show Yang we're not scared. Huh?" Kaya said before they started looking around the room. "Selena, is your powers working again?" Cole asked before Selena tried, but nothing happened. "Nothing. Argh! Yang probably wants to make it harder for us." She grunted.
The clock chimed and they all jumped a little. "It's just a clock. We're not afraid of time, but we are afraid of not getting outta here in time. Oh my gosh, why did we spend the night in a haunted temple?!" Cole exclaimed before Zane turned towards the others. "EVERYONE, GET AHOLD OF YOURSELVES! EVEN IF MY VOLUME WASN'T STUCK, I'D STILL BE YELLING AT THIS DECIBEL!" The others nodded in agreement. "Zane's right. What are we doing? We need to toughen up. We're ninja! We already missed out on the airjitzu the first time, we can't let this opportunity pass." Cole said determined.
Kaya suddenly saw a painting of a ship sailing in the sea. Her eyes widened when she saw it moving. "Uh, guys? Are paintings suppose to move?" The others turned towards the painting before it started filling the room with water. "Ahhh! Why do haunted houses always have scary paintings!" Cole exclaimed while Kaya's breathing started to speed up. Selena tried to open the door, but it was locked. "It's locked!" Everyone started to panic when they heard this. "As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student!" Yang was heard through the walls, making Jay groan. "Oh, great, back for round two." The room got more and more filled with water as they all held onto some floating furniture.
Kaya was fully hyperventilating, holding onto for dear life. "We have to get out of here!" She exclaimed and Cole gently held her close. Selena continued to try getting the door open. Finally with one final kick, it opened up and all water flushed out with them all. When the water was completely gone, they all sighed in relief. "Well, that wasn't refreshing." Jay said while Cole held Kaya in a comforting embrace, calming her down. "It's over. You're safe." He said and Kaya's breath slowly returned to normal. "First the haunting, then water. What's next?" Selena asked and Jay's eyes widened when he realized. "That's it. He is testing us. Don't you see, Cole's afraid of ghosts, Selena's afraid of losing her powers, and Kaya's afraid of water." He pointed out, shocking everyone.
"As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student. He's making us face our fears." Kaya said and Cole nodded. "Which means whatever he throws at us next, we have to face together. And this time, no running away." Selena nodded before looking at a clock. "Right, but time's running out and if we don't figure out a way of staying in this together, none of us are gonna get out alive." She informed the others as they all knew they needed to be quick.
On R.E.X. was Ronin putting Nya's money in his safe while they flew towards her samurai cave. "Pretend you didn't see that. Should be at the Samurai X cave shortly. Make yourself comfortable." He said and Nya crossed her arms, looking at him suspiciously. "For someone so desperate for money, you sure have a lot of it." She pointed out and Ronin nervously laughed. "Let's just say I owe someone a large debt." But Nya wasn't gonna ignore it. "Unless you like awkward pauses, do tell." With a sigh, Ronin turned to her. "I made a few bets in my life, and if I don't pay off the cursed realm's queen, my soul's going to her." Nya's eyes widened.
"And you think cashing in on our farm will save your hide? You're a real gentleman." She said and Ronin scoffed. "Save it, sweetheart. Unlike you, I don't have a ninja support system. It's me and me alone. Speaking of which, who else knows about your secret cave?" He asked. "Except for the rest of the team. No one. It's a secret." Nya answered. "Well, it looks like we're not alone." Ronin pointed towards them open entrance, making Nya gasp before they went inside. They hid behind a rock and saw Morro and the other ghosts. "Morro's here. He already knows airjitzu, what does he want with the mechs?" Nya said questioning.
Ronin looked ahead. "Yeah, well, Soul Archer's here too, so now would be a good time to leave." He said before taking a step back, stepping on something that made a small yelp in pain. "Pyther?" Nya asked before Pyther turned visible again, holding his tail. "I forgot about my tail again." He said before Nya looked at him. "Okay, young man. We really need to have a talk about you sneaking into dangerous situations." Pyther just nervously laughed.
The three turned towards the ghosts and Nya saw her samurai mech. "If I can't help my friends as the water ninja, I can help them as a Samurai." She snuck her way towards her mech. "I've got a bad feeling about this." Ronin said and Pyther nodded in agreement. Soon Nya jumped into her mech and turned towards the ghosts. "Sorry to crash the party, but this place looks a little dead." She smirked and Morro glared at her. "The girl. Get her!" He ordered before they started to attack Nya.
She tried striking them with her sword, but it just went through them. "Oh right, ghosts aren't effected by normal weapons." Soul Archer shot an arrow towards her, but Ronin stopped it with an aeroblade. "But this can." He smirked and Morro grunted before activating the armor. "He's conjuring reinforcements!" Pyther exclaimed and Nya turned towards him. "That I can deal with." Soon she threw a small explosive at him that stocked onto the armor. "You're gonna blow up your friend?" Ronin asked and Nya looked a little dumbfounded. "Oh, yeah. Maybe I didn't think that through." Pythor shook his head. "Not really." Morro quickly threw away the armor before it exploded.
He growled and turned towards the three. "Destroy them!" Nya quickly jumped out of her mech, before Ghoultar possessed it. "We can't fight them all. We gotta leave!" Ronin exclaimed and grabbed Nya's arm, but she pulled away. "No! They're not taking my suit!" Ronin sighed and threw her over his shoulder. "Then I'm taking you!" He ran towards the exit with Pyther slithering after them, Nya trying to get off his shoulder. "Don't let them get away!" Morro ordered before the other ghosts chased after them. Ronin tried to call call R.E.X., but Morro appeared infront of them.
"Boo." Ronin stopped, aswell as Pyther. The other ghosts surrounded them while grinning. "Ghoultar never let you leave!" Ghoultar said in the ghost mech, making Ronin nervously laugh. "Hey, guys. There's gotta be a deal we can strike here, huh?" Pyther held onto Nya in fear as she also felt fear inside of her, but she still needed to protect Pyther. She raised her hand without realizing, and rain started to fall down. The ghosts grunted as it burned their skin, and Morro growled. "We have what we came for. Leave 'em." He said and summoned his dragon before they flew off.
Ronin looked at the sky confused. "Rain? In the middle of the dry season?" Pyther looked confused aswell. "And in the dessert." Nya looked at her hand and sighed. "Guess I'm the water ninja after all." She said and looked up at the raining sky.
In the temple had the ninja and Selena tied themselves together by a rope. "All right, no matter what happens, no one can run away. We're in this together." Cole said and they started to walk. "Haha! Ain't no thang but a Sensei Yang. Let's find him and get that airjitzu." Jay said nervously. "Just so we're not surprised, Zane, Jay, what sort of things are you afraid of?" Kaya asked before Zane stopped with widened eyes, looking at something behind them. "AH! I THINK I KNOW WHAT I'M AFRAID OF!" They all turned around and saw Morro grinning at them. "IT'S MORRO!" Zane exclaimed and they all screamed.
"Of all the times to have to fight him again." Cole said and Jay grunted. "Ugh, and he already knows airjitzu. We don't stand a chance!" Selena then realized something. "Wait a minute. If we're all afraid of Morro, this must be the next test. And how are we supposed to save Lloyd if we don't even have the courage to face him?" She said and Cole nodded. "She's right. Let's get him!" They all soon ran after Morro before they reached a set of stairs. "He went up to the attic." Kaya pointed out and Jay gulped. "Uh, attics. Definitely near the top of the list of things I'm afraid of." He said before they went up.
Suddenly they saw Morro standing with his back turned towards them. "He's just standing there. What do we do?" Jay asked and Cole shook his head. "I don't know. But go face him, Jay." He said and Jay scoffed. "Ugh, you face him!" Kaya looked at them. "We'll all face him." They all nodded before they walked up to Morro, when he suddenly disappeared. In his place was now Yang. "As iron sharpens iron, Sensei sharpens student. You have passed the test." He said with respect and Kaya stepped forward. "Then you'll teach how to do airjitzu?" She asked before Yang handed them a scroll. "Only those who see things through will reap the benefit of the reward." He said and they all bowed in respect.
Suddenly Jay looked at his hand and his eyes widened. "That's not the only thing we see through. Why is it I can see through my hand!?" He exclaimed before they all noticed how they started to become see through, Yang laughing as several ghosts appeared behind him. "Now you will join my students." He grinned evilly. "He's not just their mentor, he's their captor!" Selena exclaimed as Yang looked at them. "The new dawn's upon us. Get out of here before the clock's last chime, if you can." They all started to run towards the exit while Yang laughed.
"The door! Hurry!" Kaya said before Cole suddenly dropped the scroll. "Uh-oh! Aah! The scroll!" He united himself to reach it, making the others able to get out in time. Jay looked at his hand and sighed in relief. "Ah. My hand. I can see my hand! We made it!" Jay said and Selena summoned a small purple flame. "We did." She smiled before Kaya held up Cole's end of the rope. "Ugh, but where's Cole?" She asked in worry before they heard Cole's voice. "Don't worry, I got the scroll!" He exclaimed before the others turned to him and gasped, making him confused. "Why are you all looking at me like that?" Jay looked at him with a sympathetic look. "You didn't make it out in time." Kaya slowly walked up to him. "Yeah, Cole, you're a...a..." She said before Cole looked down at himself.
His eyes widened when he saw how he no longer was a human. "I'm a...ghost..." He said and fell to his knees in despair as the others walked up to comfort him, Yang's laugh echoing through the air.
