Child's play
The ninja was over Jamanakai Village on the Bounty. Lloyd looked down on the ground and watched other kids who played ball. He sighed and felt sad. Ever since he became the green ninja, he didn't have time to be a normal kid. "Lloyd! Concentrate." Kaya's voice snapped him out of his thoughts as he turned towards the ninja. "Now when the Bounty is ours again, we can train you more properly. But you have to focus. One more time." Zane said and Lloyd groaned. "Ugh. But we have been training all day." He pouted.
"It's all to get you ready to face your father. Now in position." Cole said and they all made themselves ready for training. Lloyd wasn't really excited about it, but he kept up with them. Using his learned skills to knock them all down. "That was fun. Are we done now?" He asked, wanting to go. "You sound so impatient today. Like if you're stressed over something. What's on your mind?" Jay asked.
Lloyd smiled. "Well, the latest issue of Starfarer just came in at doomsday's comics. And it limeted edition. So it's gonna sell out if I don't go and get one. The last comic ended with Fritz Donegan, being surrounded by the imperial sludge. And if I don't find out if he comes out okay. I might have my own doomsday!" Kaya sighed. "The fate of Ninjago rests on your shoulders. As the green ninja, you have a big responsibility to hold. I'm sorry, but you don't have time for that." Lloyd pouted.
"Other kids gets to have fun. All I do is training. Don't I atleast deserve a reward for a good session?" The ninja sighed and shook their heads. Nya soon ran up to them. "Guys! It's been a break in by Ninjago's museum of history! And the cameras picked up Garmadon!" The ninja nodded. "We have to stop him before he uses his mega weapon for another of his evil plans." Jay said, earning nods from the others.
Kaya turned to Lloyd. "Yeah yeah yeah. I can't go and it's safer if I stay here and train." Lloyd said and Kaya nodded. "Yeah. Sorry Green bean. But I promise I get you something on the way home." She winked and Lloyd smiled a little. The ninja soon jumped into the rader and drove off.
Lloyd sighed. "To old for comics, and to young to fight. When are they gonna make up there minds?" Nya giggled and gently hugged him. "Come on pint size. How about some dragon flying lessons?" She said and Lloyd shined up a little at the suggestion.
That night, the serpentine were in the museum. Skales's eyes landed on a painting of some serpentine. "Boy, did they get that wrong!" He said. Acidicus looked around with a questioning look. "Why would we come to a museum, if we weren't going to steal anything from it?" Fangtom turned to him. "Because Master Garmadon...has another plan to destroy the ninja." Skales scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Ha! He's no master of mine, since his so-called mega weapon has failed every time. I don't see why we don't call our own shots." He said.
"Because this time, I will not fail." Garmadon walked infront of them, making Skales jump. The other generals bowed, Skales reluctantly following. They soon walked up do a skeleton of a big beast. The ninja watched them closely fron their hiding spot. "Behold, Dromaeosaurid Theropod Grundalicus, otherwise known as the Grundal. Although now extinct, in its time it was the most fearful and dangerous creature in all of Ninjago, with claws that could slice through steel, heightened senses that could detect its prey from miles away. It could track the stealthiest of ninja, and once it had picked up your scent, there was no hiding from it." Garmadon grinned.
Kaya's eyes widened as she whispered to the others. "The Grundal? I've read of them. There's no escape from them." Jay nervously laughed. "Boy. Then am I glad we live in an age where we don't have to deal with those things?" Skales looked at Garmadon and rolled his eyes. "Thanks for the history lesson, but what are we gonna do with a pile of bones?" Garmadon glared at him. "I am going to make it so the beast shall walk again." He said before holding his weapon towards the skeleton.
"Rise, Grundal, and feel the strength of the Mega Weapon! I wish to create the power to make you young. Turn back the clock so that you are no longer extinct, but hungry, hungry for the ninja." Golden energy covered the bones that started to shake. The ninja's eyes widened. "Oh, no. He's bringing it back?" Jay exclaimed. "Not if we have any say in the matter." Zane answered before they drew their weapons and showed themselves.
"The ninja. Stop them!" Garmadon commanded and the serpentine attacked the ninja. "Rise, Grundal. Rise!" Garmadon continued. "We can't let him finish. Go!" Cole said before they all jumped onto the skeleton. "This is not a solid plan, Cole." Zane pointed out before they fell off. Kaya quickly threw her sword at Garmadon's weapon, stopping the resurrection. "Not again. Not again!" He shouted before he and the snakes retreated.
Suddenly the ninja saw the generals trying to steal a golden sarcophagus. They quickly chased after them, but they couldn't keep up with them. The generals couldn't take the sarcophagus with them, so they left it and fleed through the sewers. Soon the ninja arrived and saw that they were gone. "I can't believe we couldn't catch up to them. I'm usually faster than that. It's as if my legs were half the size." Jay said in a high-pitched voice. Kaya looked at the sarcophagus and noticed something weird.
"I don't remember that thing being so big. Did it grow?" She asked, her voice also being high. "Or did we shrink?" Zane added, high-pitched voice aswell. Kaya looked down at herself before looking at their reflection in a window across the street. "Uh, guys." She pointed towards it and the others watched. Everyone's eyes widened as they took off their masks. "We've shrunk!" Jay shouted. "We're...we're kids!" Kaya exclaimed.
They all screamed in shock. "Oh, this is bad. This is so bad on so many levels!" Jay said. "Oh, it's impossible! We must be dreaming, Zane. Tell me we're dreaming!" Cole turned to Zane. "It's impossible for many people to share the same dream. Perhaps Garmadon succeeded in turning back the clock, but instead of reviving the Grundal, it only affected us." Zane answered. "Yeah, but Nindroids don't turn into kids. Explain that, genius." Jay pointed out. "I've extended my logic parameters, but nothing is coming up. This does not compute." Zane answered with some spark flying from his face.
"Okay, fine. I get it. We're all in this together. Oh, but I can't be a kid again, I hated being a kid. You can't drive, nobody listens to you. Oh no, bedtimes!" Cole said worried. Kaya looked at the others. "Don't worry, I told Nya we'd meet back at the Bounty. I'm sure Sensei will know what to do." She said, when suddenly cops appeared. "Well, well, what do we got here? Looks like we've caught our culprits to the museum heist. Who would have thought it was just a bunch of brats? What have you got on, Apple Dumpling Gang? Pyjamas?" One of the cops laughed.
Jay glared at them. "These aren't pajamas! We're ninja." The other cop rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, and I'm Santa Claus." Cole tried using spinjitsu, but he lost balance. "Easy, kiddo. You're coming with us to the precinct." One of the cops said before grabbing the ninja by the necks. "Look officers, this has been a grave misunderstanding. My friends here and I are simply trying to help out." Kaya said. "Hey, you can tell all the stories you want when we return to the museum tomorrow to explain why you stole this." The other cop said. "But we didn't steal it." Kaya exclaimed. "Zip it." The cop said and threw the ninja into the car before driving off.
At the Bounty the next morning was Nya and Wu getting nervous. "Oh, they should've been back by now." Nya said and Wu nodded. "Oh, I fear something horrible has happened to them." He then turned to Lloyd who was reading a lesson book. "Lloyd. You're in charge of the Bounty while Nya and I have a look around town." Lloyd nodded. "Uh, yeah. Sure thing." Nya and Wu then headed off. Lloyd looked after them before taking out a comic from the book. "Okay, Fritz Donogan, looks like it's just gonna be you, me, and the imperial sludge." He smirked at himself.
At the museum were the ninja kneeling and apologizing. Except for Zane. "We're sorry for stealing." Zane looked at the others confused. "But we didn't. I don't understand." Kaya turned to him. "The quicker we get out of here, the faster we can figure out how to return our bodies back to normal age." She whispered and Zane quickly kneeled aswell. "I'm sorry for stealing, too." The curator smiled gently and nodded. "Thank you, young children, for returning the sarcophagus. You did the right thing. But, what about the bones?" He asked.
This made the ninja confused. "What bones? We didn't steal any bones." Jay answered and the curator pointed at the place the Grundal stood. "The Grundal bones." The ninja's eyes widened when they saw that the bones were gone. "The Grundal bones? They're gone! You don't think-" Jay turned to the others. "It just walked out of here." Kaya said, worried. "Theoretically, it is possible that if Garmadon successfully reversed the years on us, he reversed the years on the Grundal and brought it back to life." Zane answered and made them all gasp.
Jay turned towards the cops. "You guys have to believe us! The Grundal's been brought back to life and it's on the loose. It's sole existence is to hunt ninja and as long as we're here, everyone's at risk!" But the cops just laughed before putting them on a bench. "Well, we'll keep a good look out for anything that goes bump in the night, okay? Now, you four sit still until we call your parents to come pick you up." One of the cops said before they walked off.
"We've gotta get out of here, right now." Cole told the others. Kaya noticed a school group of kids, with clothes sticking out of their backpacks. "Follow my lead, boys." They snuck behind the children and took some of the clothes from them. The cops meanwhile were confused over where they'd gone. Well the ninja was blending in with the school kids. Dressed up as kids aswell.
(Kaya's kid outfit)
"Oh, this is so humiliating." Jay said as he was wearing a blue shirt with butterflies on it. "I'm afraid if we can't use our Spinjitzu, we'll be no match for the Grundal." Zane informed. "Then we have to get back to the Bounty." Kaya said before they came outside. Quickly the ninja ran off, making principal Noble yell after them. But that's when the Grundal jumped from the roof, scaring everyone around as it searched for the ninja.
On the Bounty was Lloyd playing videogames in boredom, when the phone rang and he answered. "Destiny's Bounty." Jay spoke from the other end. "Lloyd, it's Jay! Let me talk to Sensei!" Lloyd got a little confused. "Jay? Where are you? Why haven't you returned? Sensei's out looking for you." He asked. "Apparently, you need parental permission to take the bus, and we can't seem to get out of the city!" Lloyd got more confused. "Uh, what?" Jay sighed. "Oh, never mind, it's a bit complicated. Just meet us at Buddy's Pizza in ten minutes. And bring our weapons." The call ended and Lloyd got the weapons.
Later, Lloyd arrived and Buddy's pizza and looked after the ninja. He heard them. "Really? Of all places we could meet, you pick this place?" Cole said to Jay, annoyed. "What? I like their pizza." Jay defended himself. "Psst, Lloyd." Kaya's voice whispered and Lloyd turned towards the ninja. But he didn't recognized them. "Sorry. But I'm looking for my friends." Kaya looked at him gently. "Green bean, it's us." Lloyd's eyes widened when he heard that nickname.
"Kaya? Guys? What happened to you? You're, my age." Kaya sighed a little. "Your father's mega weapon not only managed to turn us into kids, but also unleashed a creature whose sole purpose is to hunt down ninja." Cole grunted. "Typical Garmadon." Jay nodded. "And now, every time we try to tell someone, they won't believe us, because we're kids." He crossed his arms, pouting. Lloyd chuckled a little. "Well, I guess you now know what it feels like to be treated differently." The ninja sighed, knowing he was right.
Lloyd handed them their weapons. "Look, this is serious. If we don't turn big so that we can use our Spinjitzu, we don't stand a chance against the Grundal." Zane informed. "Maybe in I have a chance? My powers are strong." Lloyd suggested. Kaya shook her head. "Yeah, but you don't know the Grundal. I know that I've read about it's weakness, but I can't remember. Ugh, curse this kid brain. We must find someone who knows about the Grundal too." Lloyd then saw kids reading a comic, getting an idea.
They arrived at doomsday's comics. "You brought us to a comic book store? This isn't just to get your comic, is it?" Cole asked and Lloyd shook his head. "Trust me. If there's anyone who knows how to defeat a monster that doesn't exist, I know just the person to talk to." He guided them to the owner. "Fellas, meet Rufus McCallister, AKA Mother Doomsday." Rufus turned to them. "Well, if it isn't Lloyd 'Hemorrhoid' Garmadon. Sorry if you came looking for the latest 'Starfarer,' I'm all sold out." Lloyd's eyes widened, but he quickly shook his head.
"Oh, actually, Mother Doomsday, we need help." Rufus nodded. "Well, color me intrigued." He smiled. "We have a problem. There's a Grundal on the loose and we need to know how to deal with it." Lloyd said. "Oh, a theoretical question." Rufus said, misunderstanding. "Yeah, theoretical. Can you help?" Lloyd asked. "Dromaeosaurid Theropod Grundalicus. Phew! Although extinct, there has been a plethora of film, television and comics exploring the mythology around the primordial predator. Supposedly, they always get their prey." Rufus said as he walked from behind the register.
"He knows his stuff." Kaya said impressed. "Can it be stopped?" Lloyd asked and Rufus nodded. "First thing you need to know is that it's thick shell-like hide, is invincible to swords, scythes, nunchucks, and throwing stars. So your cheap imitations will do nothing to slow him down. Second of all, it's nocturnal and will only hunt at night." Jay looked outside and sighed in relief as it was still dark.
"And the only way to defeat it, is with light. Like a vampire, with enough of it, it could potentially destroy him. If I had my weapons of choice, may I recommend the Illuma-Sword?" Rufus pointed at purple lightsabers. "These are authentic replicas, that would come in handy were you to live long enough to actually face a Grundal. And if swords are your thing then maybe I can interest you in an authentic ninja gi. Signed by the very ninja that saved the city." He also pointed at a case with ninja suits.
"Uh, we'll just take the light swords." Kaya said and reached for the swords. Rufus stopped her. "Not so fast. This 'Starfarer' combo pack can only be won in the Fritz Donogan Trivia Battle Royale. You have what it takes to be the best?" He said and the ninja turned to Lloyd. "You can do this, Lloyd." Jay said but Lloyd got a little nervous. "But I haven't read the latest number. I'm screwed if a question about it comes up." Kaya then handed him a comic. "Here. Told you I'd get you something. So I got this before we got to the museum." Lloyd smiled and took it. "Sign me up." He said determined.
Nya and Wu had just returned to the Bounty, noticing that there wasn't anyone there. "Great. Now Lloyd's missing. What's next?" Nya said and Wu noticed that the phone had a voicemail. "Sensei, we're at doomsday's comics, My dad have turned the others into kids and we're about to face a real life Grundal. If you get this message, this isn't a prank. Come quick!" Lloyd's voice said, and both Wu and Nya looked at eachother worriedly. "Oh, dear. Well, there's only one person who could help return the ninja back to normal." Wu said.
Night arrived as Lloyd was in the final. "It's down to the final two. This question is for Lloyd. What is Fritz Donogan's famous catchphrase?" Rufus asked and Lloyd took a deep breath. "Fair? Fair is not a word from where I come from." He said and Rufus nodded. "Correct! We're all tied up." Zane noticed that it was dark outside and turned towards the others. "It's getting dark. The Grundal will be on the prowl soon." Kaya gave him a gentle smile. "Don't worry. I got faith Lloyd can win those Illuma-Swords." She said as they turned back towards the competition.
"Final question. The first person to answer this will win. In the latest issue of 'Starfarer,' how did Fritz Donogan escape the imperial sludge?" Rufus asked and Lloyd thought before looking up. "By reversing the polarity of the ship's gravity transducer." He answered and Rufus smiled. "We have a winner!" Everyone cheered, when the lights suddenly went off.
Kaya's eyes widened. "Oh no. It's here." Rufus got confused. "What's here?" Jay nervously laughed. "You know that theoretical discussion we had earlier?" Cracking was heard from the glass roof. They all looked up and saw the Grundal. "Not the..." Rufus said scared before the Grundal crashed through the roof. "Grundal!" Everyone ran towards the doors, but they were blocked. "We're doomed!" Jay exclaimed as the Grundal swung it's tail, trying to find the ninja.
That's when the ninja grabbed their suits and the illuma-swords. "Hey, McNasty, I thought ninja were on your menu!" Cole taunted before they started to attack it. The light from the swords made it back away. "It's working!" Jay said before they started to hit it. But as they were toys, they broke. The Grundal roared and smacked them towards the register. They all screamed in fear, when suddenly Lloyd showed up and made a light with his powers.
"Back away from my friends, nasty beast!" He exclaimed, before getting hit by it's tail. Knocking him out as the Grundal got closer to the ninja. "This is the end, isn't it?" Cole said before Nya kicked the door open, letting the others escape. "Use this!" Wu shouted and threw a jar of tea towards the ninja, Jay caught it. "What is it?" He asked. "It'll turn forward the hands of time, turning you old and reducing the Grundal back to dust and bones. But be careful, there's no turning back." Wu informed.
The ninja nodded. "Grundal, prepare to be extinct!" Jay said as he was about to throw it. But Cole stopped him. "No, wait. What will happen to Lloyd? He'll grow old, too." The others looked at Lloyd. "Just do it." Lloyd said. "You'll miss out on the rest of your childhood, dude." Jay exclaimed. Kaya nodded. "We can't do that to you. It's not fair!" That's when the Grundal knocked them all back. The tea landed on Lloyd's lap and he picked it up before looking at the Grundal.
"Fair? Fair isn't a word from where I come from." He said before throwing the tea at the Grundal. It started to turn to dust and bones before completely falling onto the floor as a pile of dust. The ninja stood up and was back to normal age again. "What happened? We're not kids anymore." Cole said and Nya sighed in relief. "It worked!" Wu looked around. "But what about Lloyd?" He asked.
That's when Lloyd stood up, making everyone's eyes widened when they saw that he was older. "I'm, older." He said in shock. But also sorrow over losing his childhood. "The time for the green ninja to face his destiny has grown nearer." Wu said and the ninja gave him comforting smiles. Lloyd smiled back at them before nodding. "I'm ready." He said as they headed out.
On their way, Lloyd turned to Kaya. "Guess you won't call me Green bean anymore. Since I'm too old for nicknames." Kaya smirked. "Nope. You'll always be my little Green bean." She ruffled his hair, making him pout before they laughed. Wu looked up at the sky and smiled. "There comes a time when we all must grow up. When that time comes, it's important not to forget the lessons of our childhood, because our childhood is the greatest training one can ever have." He said and everyone smiled.
Yes, the time until the final battle had grown shorter, but the green ninja has grown stronger.
