05 | Bittersweet Moments

It's not that Joshua loves detention, but he guesses that detention loves him. Having sat in detention at least 35 times, his eyes wandered around the room and landed on Mr. Lee, who was asleep—nothing unusual there. His gaze shifted to the window, and he immediately squinted as he saw Seungcheol's best friend, Lee Seokmin, getting scolded by Mr. Xu, "The peaceful teacher," who couldn't stand chaos. Naturally, Seokmin was the target.

Joshua noticed Mr. Xu pointing to the detention room, where he was sitting right now. He quickly acted like he was studying. After a few minutes, the door burst open, and in walked Seokmin, flashing his iconic, wide smile, which was enough to brighten anyone's day.

Their eyes locked, and they both stared at each other.

"Ugh—Oh, Seokmin!!" Mr. Lee suddenly woke up from his nap and greeted Seokmin, who bowed in return.

"Do something, just be silent. I'll be back with an Americano," Mr. Lee ordered. Both nodded, understanding.

"Hyung!!" Seokmin dashed toward Jisoo and sat in front of him with that same smile, making Jisoo's heart skip a beat.

Too beautiful. Too precious.

That's all Jisoo could think of right now.

"They're so whipped for each other, huh? I know, right, hyung?" Seokmin waved his hand in front of Jisoo, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah?" Jisoo mumbled, still dazed.

"You okay? Are you listening to me?" Seokmin chuckled, rubbing the back of his head. Jisoo, still feeling his heart flutter, nervously chuckled too.

"Yeah, you were talking about Jeongcheol, right?"

C'mon, talk about us too—No, no, what am I saying?

"Yup! And I wanted to ask—can you help me with English?" Seokmin asked eagerly, but was suddenly interrupted by the door bursting open.

Both of them turned to see a junior boy running in, panting heavily.

"Sunbaenim, Seungcheol and Jeonghan Sunbaenim are in a huge fight!" the boy exclaimed, struggling to catch his breath.

"What the hell? How?" Both Seokmin and Jisoo bolted toward the boy.

"They tried to bully Jeonghan Sunbaenim, and the fight broke out!" the junior continued.

Running through the corridor, they arrived at the scene to find a furious Seungcheol grabbing a senior's collar against a locker while Jeonghan was beating another boy.

What the actual hell? Yoon Jeonghan—the angel—is beating someone?

Meddling in the fight, Seokmin tried to pull Jeonghan back while Jisoo attempted to calm Seungcheol. Their methods were very contrasting, but if it worked, it worked.

"How dare you call Cheol a puppet, you useless piece of—" Jeonghan slammed a punch into the boy's face, grabbing him by the collar. "Get that through your head! It doesn't matter whether I'm dating Cheol or not, or who I'm with! Get a life and stop bullying others!"

The bullies ran off quickly.

"What? Go back to your crap!" Jeonghan yelled after them.

The four of them stood there, finally able to breathe.

"Han, you could've gotten hurt," Seungcheol said, voice full of concern.

"So could you," Jeonghan shot back.

"Both of you, shut up! You could've gotten hurt!" Jisoo shouted, instantly silencing them. Hong Jisoo's anger meant everyone should zip their mouths immediately.

"And Yoon Jeonghan?" Jisoo glanced at his best friend, disbelief written all over his face. He couldn't believe what he'd just witnessed.

"I mean, they called Cheol a—" Jeonghan stopped mid-sentence when he saw the intense anger in Jisoo's eyes. "Sorry," he murmured, grabbing Cheol's hand to apologize, which Seungcheol understood immediately.

"Yes, Jisoo, sorry," Seungcheol said quietly.

"Hyung? What about me? You have to apologize to me too," Seokmin chimed in, giving Jisoo a playful look.

"Min, we're sorry, okay? But they said some awful things about Han, and I just couldn't—"

"Yeah, yeah, your inner boyfriend couldn't stop and almost got everyone killed. Great!!" Jeonghan, who had been drinking water, coughed at Seokmin's words, while Seungcheol's eyes widened, and he quickly covered Jeonghan's mouth to stop him from choking.

"Hahaha, Lee Seokmin, what are you saying? You're a mental child," Seungcheol muttered under his breath, glaring at Seokmin, who rolled his eyes sassily.

"Just repeating what I heard, hyung. Your inner boyfriend—"

"Okay, enough of this conversation. We should go now, right?" Seungcheol interrupted.

"But—"

"Let's call it a bittersweet day," Seungcheol suggested, cutting off any further protests.
