Chapter 12: End of Year 1
Malinda, Merula, Ismelda, and Barnaby are now gathered in the Great Hall with everyone else in Hogwarts. Malinda was sitting in between Ismelda and Merula at the Slytherin table while Barnaby was sitting beside Ismelda. Malinda no longer had the patch on her left cheek, and the burn wound on her cheek had now became a small scar
Ismelda: ( to Merula: ) So, Merula, are you going to tell us what Dumbledore said to you after the Halloween incident?
Malinda: ( is shock ) Excuse, me?! ( to Merula: ) You didn't tell me that you got in trouble with Dumbledore.
Merula: Relax, Burns. It was nothing bad...
Malinda was about to say something to Merula, but she stopped herself when she heard Dumbledore's voice as he began announcing who won the house cup.
Professor Dumbledore: ( to the students: ) Another year at Hogwarts has come to an end! I hope you all learned much this year because I certainly feel like I have learned from you. But enough of my blathering. There is a feast to enjoy and a House Cup to reward... In fourth place, Ravenclaw with 238 points... In third, Hufflepuff with 245... In second, Gryffindor with 246... And with 340, Slytherin!
Everyone at the Slytherin table clapped and cheered, while Malinda turned to Merula with a look of pure shock, Merula just gave Malinda a smug grin in return.
Dumbledore: Congratulations, Slytherin! This year's winners of the House Cup!
Barnaby: ( to Ismelda, Malinda, and Merula: ) Yes! We did it, ladies, we won the house cup!
Merula: All thanks to me. Because of my bravery-
Malinda: Of almost getting yourself turn into a frozen popsicle.
Merula: You don't know what you're talking about, Burns.
Malinda: ( sarcastically, without thinking: ) Uh-huh, sure.
Ismelda: ( to Malinda: ) Was that sarcasm?
Malinda: ( nervous, with worry: ) I- I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to-
Ismelda: What are you apologizing for?
Merula: You're slowly becoming more of a Slytherin finally.
Dumbledore: Now, please enjoy your feast, and enjoy your summer holidays!
As everyone started enjoying the feast, Barnaby looked at Malinda with a smile.
Barnaby: So, Mal, what are you going to do during the summer?
Malinda: Oh... Um, my mom is probably going to have me stay home all summer after what happen on Halloween. She's kinda, protective of me, especially after Jacob disappeared...
Merula: ( scoffs ) Makes sense, she's probably afraid you'll go missing too.
Malinda: No, it has always been like that ever since she found out that I inherited the same condition as my grandfather...
( Slight Time Skip, after the train left Hogwarts and arrived at the station. )
Malinda walked out of the train with her dufflebag, and waved her three slytherin friends goodbye before she began looking for any sign of her mother.
Malinda's mother had begun frantically looking for her daughter the second the train arrived. Malinda and her mother looked completely identical, but Malinda's mother's hair and eyes were a slightly lighter color and Malinda's mother was a short yet curvy woman with her hair tied in a messy bun. Malinda's mother was wearing a dark purple dress and a yellow handkerchief around her neck, and she was wearing a pair of black short heeled shoes.
As soon as Malinda's mother spotted Malinda, she quickly ran to her daughter and hugged her.
Malinda: ( chuckles ) Hello, Mum.
Malinda's mother: ( lets go of Malinda and looked at her daughter with a worried expression ) You have no idea how worried I've been since I heard about what happened to you on Halloween. Are there any more scars? Are they still giving you pain? Have you been eating enough red meat?!
Malinda: ( to her mother, with a reinsuring smile: ) I'm alright, Mum. It's just one scar, it doesn't hurt anymore, but I'm sure we can cover it up. And yes, I have been eating enough meat, both red and white.
Malinda's mother: ( sighs in relief ) Oh, thank goodness. ( sweetly, to her daughter as they began walking together: ) How was school anyway, dear? Did you make any friends?
Malinda: Oh, yes! I've made three friends, and I've made friends with all the house elves that work in the kitchens at the castle. They don't seem to be intimidated by my... uniqueness.
Malinda's mother: That's wonderful, dear. You have been keeping your earring on and keeping out your inner beast, right?
Malinda: ( nervously, as she didn't like lying to her mother: ) Y-Yes Ma'am.
Malinda's mother gave a soft smile in response before the two continued to talk as they began walking through the train station together.
