Ordinary To Escape

AGES

Flame: 12 1/2

Texas: 5

It was your ordinary day in sunny California. Flame got off the bus from an ordinary day at her ordinary public school. She walked into her apartment's kitchen and grabbed a plastic bag to heat her tamales.

"Texas, want a tamale?" She calls to her brother, who's in their shared bedroom.

It was a Friday afternoon, so their dad was out doing volunteer speaking in prisons. It's been a few years since they were adopted and moved from Texas to California. Their dad had adopted them once his time was served. Both kids knew he used to do bad things, but they also knew he wasn't that person anymore. To those kids, he was just a good dad.

As they were sitting on the couch in their apartment's living room, they heard loud banging in the door. Suddenly, the door busted open. It revealed the devil lady and the grumpy army guy, as Harley liked to call them.

A tear slipped down Flame's face, as she heard Texas' sobs. She froze in fear until she felt her little brother grab her hand in his smaller one, pulling her into their dad's bedroom.

Flame tried to keep quiet, but Texas' sobs were getting louder.

"Shhhh. The monsters will get you if your not quiet." She whisper yelled, being comforting was never her thing.

Everything was a blur of red and blue until her dad walked into the living room.

"Chato Santanna. You've been selected for another suicide mission." Waller said, as she handcuffed him.

"But I've done my time! What about my kids?!" He protested, as tears ran down his face. But in the end, he knew there was no stopping her.

"Your adopted children will be taken back to foster care."

As soon as Flame and Texas heard that, they knew they had to escape. Fast.
