20 - Perfect

Yoongi checked the cake for a hundredth time. The cream he spread on seemed to be holding up to perfection.

He went back to the steaks on the grill pan, waiting for a bit before flipping them over. The steaks needed to be perfect.

Yoongi turned the veggies over on the other side of the pan, so they would brown up nicely on both sides. Perfect.

The wine was chilled. He even remembered strawberries and grapes, both washed and chilled in the fridge perfectly.

He glanced at his watch. Thirty minutes left before Hana would reach home. He just needed to change and serve the food nicely on the plates before she arrived.

Everything needed to be perfect tonight. It was Christmas and it was their anniversary.

Ha Young spent it with Taehyung and Jimin this year so him and Hana could have tonight all by themselves.

He glanced at his watch again. Fifteen minutes more. Hana could be on her way back from sending their gifts to Taehyung, his boyfriend and her daughter.

He deliberately told her he couldn't go because he was waiting for a Skype call from a client overseas.

He went and change into a white shirt and black tie before setting up the table, not forgetting the candles.

A few minutes later, the doorbell rang and he skipped to the door.

Wait, doorbell?

Hana knew the passcode of course. So why rang the doorbell?

He slowly opened it to his neighbors who just came by to offer him a bottle of wine and wish him a Merry Christmas.

He politely bowed to the older neighbors and kept the wine in the chiller.

Yoongi looked at his watch again. Hana was late. Maybe she stayed over at Taehyung's place a little longer than necessary.

The pale man took his phone and sent his girlfriend's late ex-husband's younger brother a message. (A/N -Wow that was a mouthful.)

Taehyung

Taehyungie

Yeah hyung?

Your noona is still there?

Nope
She left like 40 min ago

Why hyung?

Is she not home yet?

Not yet. She might have stopped somewhere.

Okay.

Have fun today hyung!

Happy anniversary!

Jimin says hi by the way.

Ok thanks.

Tell Jimin hi too.

Don't want to.

What?

Whatever Taehyungie.

Lol.

Merry Christmas hyung.

You too.
Especially Jimin.

Hyung!

Two can play a game Taehyungie.

Yoongi didn't even wait Taehyung to reply and exited the chat app and pressed number 2 on his keypad to speed dial Hana.

It rang until it went to the voicemail.

He tried again.

Voicemail.

He tried the third time.

It clicked.

Finally!

Hey babe. Where are you?

Toot...

The line went dead.

The fuck was that?

He tried again. This time it didn't even go through.

He frowned. Something didn't feel right.

He called Taehyung.

"Hyung! What's wrong?"

"How do you know something's wrong?"

"Cause you would never call me."

"Oh right. I can't call your noona."

"What do you mean?"

"It means the call didn't go through. It did at first but now it didn't."

There was a pause.

"Maybe her battery died?"

"Maybe. Well if you hear anything from her let me know."

"Of course hyung."

Yoongi disconnected the call with a sigh.

He looked at his watch again. It had been an hour since Hana was supposed to be home.

Maybe her battery did die and she was stuck in traffic.

But there's a car charger in her car. Yoongi remembered buying two sets for each of their car.

Maybe the charger was broken. Maybe her handphone was broken. And her car broke down too.

Yoongi thought of leaving the house but what if she came back when he was out looking for her?

But something felt amiss. And he had to trust his gut this time.

He took his car key and left their house.

Yoongi drove as fast as he could following her route to and fro Taehyung's apartment. Everything was clear towards the younger man's house.

The way back though, was a differently story.

There were three accidents and counting. Two seemed minor but the other might be fatal. None showed signs of Hana's car.

Yoongi drove through and saw another accident.

He saw the color of the car first.

Shit.

He saw the make of the car.

Fuck.

He saw her.

Yoongi swerved his car to the curb and stepped on the breaks so hard it screeched. He didn't even wait for the car to completely still before swinging the door open and rush to her.

"Hana!" Yoongi called up to her amidst the bystanders.

Please let her be okay dear God. Please.

Yoongi realized this was the first time he actually prayed to God since his adolescent years.

He pushed through the sea of people and reached the police.

"Sir, wait." The officer put his hand up, signalling Yoongi to stop from moving forward.

"That's my girlfriend." He pointed at Hana.

The officer turned to her direction for a while before facing him again and pulled out an emergency card. "You're Min Yoongi?"

"Yes!" He was glad beyond reasons Hana had the emergency card and made a mental note to make one for himself.

The officer nodded "We were just about to call you." He lifted the tape for Yoongi to step into the scene. He ran to Hana who was holding her head in her hands.

The EMT had already covered her petite frame with a blue blanket. They were cleaning up a wound she had on the side of her head.

He observed her movements. She seemed lucid. She was moving around a little and talking normally to the paramedics. There was a clump of blood at her left temple. But apart from that she seemed okay.

"Baby." He called her and she looked up but hissed as she felt the pain on her bleeding temple.

Yoongi knelt in front of her and held her hand.

Hana winced when the sound of a patrol car blared. She opened her eyes again to look at him.

"Hana..." Yoongi called softly.

She finally smiled, though her hand was still at the side of her head. The EMT was done cleaning her up and told her to climb into the ambulance for a hospital visit, just to be on the safe side.

"I'll come with." He said and hopped onto the back of the ambulance. Hana was laid down on the stretcher and an IV was inserted into her arm.

"Where else does it hurt?" Yoongi aksed her, his hand never left hers.

"Just my chest because of the seatbelt." She spoke through the oxygen mask and looked at him. "What are you doing here," she blinked, "boss?"

Yoongi blinked too. "Hana?"

She held her head again. "Wait. My head's so messed up." She looked up at Yoongi. "Baby?"

"It's most likely a concussion. It can make her confused of the timeline." The EMT said. "Just stay still. The doctor will asked some questions and if needed do a CT scan or MRI."

The doctors did a CT scan and Hana was cleared of any possibility of internal bleeding.

"The EMT arrived late since there were a lot of accidents tonight and the traffic was bad. It's Christmas. She was lucky she didn't bump into other cars. The road was just slippery because of the snow. Anyways, we'll hold you here for a night just to be on the safe side." Her doctor said.

Yoongi sat next to her bed and held her hand once the doctor left.

He let out a deep breath. Yoongi realized he hadn't been breathing properly since he found her at the side of the road.

Hana was already asleep. She had mentioned she was still a little bit woozy.

Yoongi sighed in relief. At least she was okay. He reached into his pocket, feeling the small box in his hand before taking the content out.

The ring was supposed to be a surprise tonight. He had planned the perfect candlelight dinner, grilled the perfect now-cold-steak and baked the perfect cake.

He chuckled at himself how it didn't quite turn out the way he wanted it to be.

He carefully slipped in the small diamond ring onto sleeping Hana's slender finger.

Shit.

He tried again.

Fuck!

Yoongi mentally cursed himself for not keeping the receipt. Well, not like he could exchange it anyways, it being him buying the ring ten years ago.

"I guessed I gained weight."

Yoongi looked up at awoke Hana in horror.

She pulled her hand from Yoongi's hold to look at the ring that was now stuck to her knuckle.

"It's beautiful."

"But it doesn't fit."

"You want me to go on a diet?"

"Never. I'll get a new one."

"A bigger one?"

"With a bigger stone."

"Okay."

"So that's a yes?"

"That's a yes."

He kissed her slow and rested his forehead against her.

"I love you Choi Hana."

"I love you too Min Yoongi."

He sighed in content.

"Now go find a nurse to take this off me. My finger's turning purple."

Yoongi laughed before running off to find help.

—————

Hana smiled at her now fiancé running — okay, dragging his feet off — to find a nurse for her purple finger.

Hana eyed her ring. She kissed it and wiped the tears that were coming.

She reached into her pocket, feeling her own small black leather box and smiled at how he beat her to it.
