Four

He couldn't move, he couldn't blink, all he could do is stare wide eyed at the girl laying in front of her and hear the hell his brother was causing behind him.

He couldn't believe his eyes, the girl in front of her was the same who he saw in the field of flowers but was so drastically different, it befuddled him.

The girl he had encountered in the field had bright eyes that reminded him of the colour of the night starry sky, and she always had a kind smile on her lips and a slight blush on her cheeks.

But this girl, laying in front of her, behind the bars of a prison cell, had no shine in her eyes, no smile on her lips and her skin was as pale as a ghost.

Dean slowly walked towards the bloody and battered girl and kneeled in front of her. As he took in her figure, he realised that she was in the same summer dress she had worn in the field, although it was dirty and torn, he recognised the delicate floral patterns on it.

"So you've been in here for months now." Dean mumbled, almost to himself, then mind linked Claire to prepare the bed for her. Claire replied that everything was ready.

From his peripheral vision, he saw his older brother walk to him.

Once Sean was done breaking most of the bones of the culprits who hurt his mate, he sent them off to be thrown in cells for their punishment. He walked to the cell his mate was unjustly held in and found his brother looking down at the girl who saved him, worry lacing his features.

"She's been here for a while, Sean. God knows what all she had to suffer through." Dean sighed as he ran a hand through his hair, a habit he shared with his brother when they're nervous or upset.

A low growl ripped through the older brothers throat as his wolf clawed for dominance to finish off what he started, calling his human weak. But he calmed down once Sean reminded him that their mate needed them more than he needed to let out his anger.

So he suppressed the urge to cause more destruction and bent down to pick his mate. He expected her to get scared or at the very least, flinch. But she didn't, in fact, she didn't show any reaction and neither did she change her facial expressions as he carried her to the room prepared for her.

And that's what scared her more than anything else, because it was like her soul was long gone even though she was living.
