Chapter 7- "Joe-elle!"

I kept glancing at Toby, he seemed pretty confused on where to go so I grab his wrist and lead him quickly through the hallway and through the big silver double doors. He seemed a but dumbfounded but regained his smirk unfazed. He was moving quite slow for my pace so I didn't want him to feel bad about me dragging him here.

"So where do you wanna sit?" I ask gesturing to the almost empty lunchroom. The 'almost' was 1) two people in a booth and a woman in her 40's with a bunch of Barbies at a wedding, also 2) the fact that it was almost 2:00.

"Why not over there..?" He says to me pointing north by the Barbie lady. I have to admit the lunchroom was quite small. We get food at the buffet, he looks so hungry so he gets, chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans and as slice of cake. His eyes wonder gingerly across his plate and looked up at me and his expression fell.

"Is that it?" He asks baffled.

"Yeah," I mutter shyly blushing, after all it was just some cold Cheerios, something about getting into trouble, meeting Mrs.Nelson, and hanging around a delinquent I trust just has made me loose my appetite. Especially Mrs.Nelson. "My appetite has evaporated but trust me, tomorrow I will be back to eating like a pig."

"So," Toby mumbles shoveling food into his mouth. "what where you saying about not being able to describe the thing after waking up, I think I can help you."

"C-can you help m-me..?" A meek voice said in the distance. We both turned simultaneously to the Barbie woman, she stopped the wedding to ask help from us. "I'm J-Joel, not Joel with a s-silent 'e' and long 'o' but, Joe-elle w-with a long 'o' a-and 'el' a-at the end!" She said more sternly.

"Uh, I, uh don't know how to help you, Joe-elle" Toby made sure to get the name right he said slumping back in the booth with a thud. I giggle at him pronouncing 'Joe-elle.'

"What do you need help with Joel?" I asked.

"M-my friends" she said pointing at the dolls, "need a-a witness f-for their wedding." She said with wide eyes and a crooked smile, kinda like mine but with dimples.

"But they're both girls...?" Toby butted in.

"As long a-as your h-happy, does it m-matter who y-y-you f-fall in love with?" She says sternly flicking her eyes back to me as she finished. I smile at her reply, dissing Toby.

"..I guess not...." Toby says quietly.

"Do we need to just look over at your friends or do we need to go over to your booth?" I ask curiously, after all I've never been to a wedding, let alone a doll one.

"Just sit there quietly and watch." She snaps. I look at Toby taken aback, he just shrugs and turns back to Joel.

"Do y-you Isabella take Regina to be y-your lawfully w-wedded wife?" A long pause.  "D-Do you Regina t-take Isabella to be your l-lawfully wedded wife?" Another long pause follows. "Y-YOU MAY KISS T-THE BRIDE!" She screamed extraordinarily loud. I blinked s few times at how she can be so quiet and then so loud. "Thank y-you.." she retorted back.

Toby and I turn back to our table and continued eating, he makes remarks on how good the food is and how much better it was than oatmeal. I wait till he's done and then we start to talk.

"So what's your favorite color? I'd like to get to know the Silver Hall." Toby smirks and looks up.

"Well it's purple!" I said indefinitely.

"Are you 100% sure? Has it ever been anything different, can you even remember?" Toby said quizzically squinting his eyes leaning over the table.

"Yes of course I'm sure, it's never changed." I say boldly but begin thinking out loud quietly almost a whisper, "Has it changed? Is purple even my favorite?" I start again sternly "Look Toby, I don't know you, you seem to be able to get into my mind and know exactly what to say, I've never questioned my being until I've ran into you. Why?"

He smiles and a small dimple on the left forms, this was so much more pure than his smirk he gives a lot of people, "Ahh see doll, that's called memory twisting. They take your memory's and make new ones so you're 'perfect' to them."

I stopped. The world stopped. Toby stopped. Joel stopped. The clanking of plates stopped. The sound of water stopped. The blood in my veins stopped. Only one thing was still there, the memory's flashing in my mind. The birthday candles going out, the camera flashes, the spelling bee, the bright stage lights, the shoelaces, the war... The war... I slowly surface back onto reality island.

"The war" I said barely audible, barely moving my lips, staring at Toby seeing if he'll tell me about it.
