Chapter 55
Heads up that in two weeks I go back to school, and I'm doing a lot of work on the book I'm writing based on this, so expect slower updates on here :)
Hair dripping onto his shoulders and down his back, Remington stands there staring at Andy, convinced he's halucincating.
"Hi," Andy smiles, warming Remington's heart with just his voice. He'll always have such a strong affect on him.
The boy looks at Sebastian, who nods encouragingly, smiling at the way Andy can always crumble Remington's walls when he's built them back up again. "I...hi," he returns, holding the towel up despite not even caring if either of the men in the room see him naked. "You..." Remington doesn't know what to say. He had just about convinced himself that he'd never get to see Andy again.
"I was wrong."
Remington feels exposed and observed and relieved. "You were?" He whispers, and all he really wants is to hug the man and forget all about this.
Andy nods.
"So you're-you're not leaving me?"
"Wouldn't dream of it."
"But you took off your ring."
Andy looks away for a moment. "I know and I'm so sorry. I didn't let myself think. You didn't deserve that."
"I lost it," Remington admits, "the ring; down the drain. Sorry."
The man shakes his head. "It's okay. I'll get a new one made. The important thing is that you didn't lose me. I'm here."
"You're here."
"That's right, sweetheart. I'm here."
Remington could cry. "Promise?"
"I promise."
"Forever? You promise forever?"
Andy smiles, nods. "I promise forever, princess."
The boy looks at his brother again before asking, "are you okay?"
"How about you come here and have a hug, first, okay?" He's avoiding the question and Remington knows he is, but a hug sounds too good to pass up on, and the skinny singer steps towards Andy.
"No more fighting, okay?" Remington asks, sitting on Andy's lap and pressing his head into the man's shoulder.
Andy wraps his arms around the familiar boy and hums. "No more fighting," he agrees, "hey sweetheart, no need for tears. It's okay now." He looks up at Sebastian, giving the guitarist a grateful smile. He knows how much Sebastian has done for Remington, and how much he's done for him, too.
"I'm sorry," Remington cries, "for everything I said. I'm sorry! I didn't mean it."
"I know, baby, it's okay. Shh, it's okay."
Sebastian smiles back and Andy kisses Remington head. He can't help but to notice how light the boy is. Everytime he's in the man's lap, Andy notices it.
The younger lifts his head and wipes his eyes. "Need'a sort this," he mumbles, picking up the tube in his hand.
Andy hums. "I'll do it, okay? Here, come sit on the bed." He waits for Remington to stand up off this lap, the towel falling to the floor. "How're you doing in here, sunshine?"
Remington shrugs. He sits on the bed and takes the gown from his brother. "Fine," he mumbles, "and bored."
The man reconnects the feeding tube to the frame before sitting on the bed with his husband, taking the younger's hand and kissing the back of it.
"How are you? You didn't...did you?" Remington brings Andy's hand up and pulls his hoodie sleeve up. "Oh," he whispers, "you did."
"I did," Andy confirms, letting Remington trace his fingers over the marks on his arm.
"Because of-because of me?" He looks at Andy with a sad expression, already knowing the answer to his scared question.
Andy nods, guilty for making Remington feel so bad about it.
"Fuck," Remington whispers, looking away. "You probably should leave me, them."
"Don't be silly."
Shaking his head, Remington sighs, lets go of Andy's hand, and after a moment, says, "I'm as bad as Holly." The words are spoken as though he really believes it. "She-she made me hurt myself and now-now I made you hurt yourself."
"Hey, no. Don't ever compare your beautiful self to that disgusting, lying ass."
"But what if it's true?"
Andy shakes his head. "It's not."
"How do you know?"
"Because I know you, and I know you never ever would do anything to intentionally hurt anyone, let alone me. I know you get confused sometimes, and overwhelmed, and I know that sometimes you say or do things that might be upsetting for me and your brothers, but that doesn't make you a bad person. Don't fucking think you're anything remotely similar to that awful awful human."
Remington sighs.
"Look, hon, I don't blame you at all for what happened, and I understand, okay? I understand you and I understand your thinking and the last thing I would ever want is for you to think that you've let me down in some way when you really haven't."
"But-"
"Uh uh, don't start. You're overthinking." He picks up the pillow and plumps it up.
The boy's serious face morphs into a smile. "I think you're perfect," he says brightly, "actually scrap that. I know you are."
Andy chuckles. "I know you're perfect, too, princess. Don't do that," the man scolds, pulling Remington's hands from the tube to keep him from pulling at it. "You're bored, huh?"
"Yep. 'cause you've not been here annoying me." He grins.
"Charming. Missed you, too."
"It's so boring here!" Remington complains, looking across at Sebastian who is sitting down with a magazine. "There's no Netflix and the magazines are awful and it's too white!"
"Poor baby, what ever shall you do?"
"Alright, well you can shut up."
"I can always leave again," Andy teases, pointing towards the door and laughing when Remington whines.
"I can always lick you," he retorts, sticking his tongue out to prove his point.
Sebastian scrunches his face up. "You guys are gross," he speaks up.
Remington shrugs. "I know."
