Chapter Fourteen: The Gun

Mack's P.O.V

Persuading her to surrender was my only choice. I didn't want to fight, nor hurt her in any way. At this rate, we'll both be bleeding to death before anyone even finds us.

All I wanted was a possibility for the three of us to be happy together. I knew Laine easily got jealous, but I never thought it would come to a death match.

With all these depressing thoughts inside my head, I struggled to focus. My arm felt numb, the blood nearly coated the entire arm, and its warmth made me feel uncomfortable.

I tried my hardest to keep the gun up, it was too heavy just for one hand to raise. I had to knock a police officer unconscious and steal this weapon, the guilt started to seep in.

All this sadness, guilt, and regret, I wish it would all just stop and go away. And most of it could simply disappear with another pull of a trigger.

She was standing rather still, the only movement I could see from her was when she breathed.

I slowly aimed the gun towards her chest, putting my finger on the trigger and started to pull it.

"Really," Laine mumbled to herself, causing me to be frozen in fear.

She turned her back towards me, and sat on the ground, placing her knife beside her.

"You're starting to act like me."

I stared, dumbfounded at that sentence, but then I started to understand. We were both willing to harm those who were in the way of our 'happiness'.

I didn't want her words to distract me, and I hesitantly fired the gun.

"For happiness, my friend."

Those were the last words I could hear as the deafening bang reached my ears. But, little did I know,

I missed.
