Chapter 8: Pizza
My father had done it. He'd given Gray permission for my number and a date-- but as for the date, dad claimed he was okay as long as I was okay. That was up for debate.
Gray has yet to call or text me since leaving my house. Now every time I got a notification I was on edge.
*Ding*
I had one new text message from a random number:
2moro, dinner and a movie?
Gray?
Yup, I'll pick u up at 6
U can't possibly be serious???
I am-- or do I have to throw u in the trunk of my car
Knowing Gray and his persistent ways, he was going to make it happen. Knowing my family, they would probably laugh off him kidnapping me. If I said yes then I'd have better control over the situation. I should say yes...
Fine, I'm coming- no need to kidnap me. Can we do it at your place?
Gasp Miss Meyers
I couldn't have him pick me up. That would open the doors to whole new set of issues I was not yet ready to deal with. I couldn't invite him over because who would want a date under their parents' uncomfortable watchful eyes.
Very funny, send me the address
28 Sherbrook Crescent, night beautiful
Night
I couldn't help but blush at the words on the screen. Beautiful... It was nice hearing that again.
I dropped my phone and groaned. I couldn't believe I had agreed to a date with Gray Roland. Worst of all, I couldn't believe how I nervous yet excited I was... What was he doing to me?
***
I looked in the mirror one last time. I wore one of my floral dress with a white cardigan. My light brown hair was let down in loose curls. I put on a little extra makeup to bring out my features. It's been a long time since I'd put in the effort for my appearance.
I couldn't believe myself.
I mean it was Gray Roland, he was bound to do or say something that will remind me how bad this all was. I just needed to get through this date first.
All giddy feelings aside, I needed to be a girl now.
I climbed down the stairs only to be stopped by James who sported a wide grin. "Look at you all dolled up."
I narrowed my eyes at him. "Drop it."
He shook his head ever so amused. "I can't, my baby sister is leaving her cage to actually go and have fun."
My chest ached a bit. I knew the way I had been locking myself away made my family worry.
"If Roland is anything like me, then you're about to have lots and lots of fun," James wiggled his brows suggestively. And our little sibling moment vanished like that.
I made a face at him. "Ew! Gross James! I'm your sister!"
James grabbed my cheek and squeezed it, I tried to push him away and failed. He always had a strong grip.
"James, leave your sister alone," my father stepped into the hall.
He looked at me a smiled. "Look at you princess, going on a date."
I frowned at the traitor. "Aren't you supposed to be all cavemen-like and protective over me. I am your only daughter. I am the baby of the family. I should be protected at all cost. Especially against pretty boys with bad reputations."
This only made him laugh. "I trust you enough. Plus, you agreed to this date as well."
I opened my mouth and closed it.
Touche.
He shook his head and chuckled. "Fine, if it makes you feel any better I want you home by ten."
Okay... that was a little better even though I know he wouldn't mind if I stayed out a little longer.
I let out a sigh. "Fine... I should get going."
"Enjoy your date," James gave another suggestive grin. I hated him right now.
"Ugh! I'm leaving now!"
I hurried out the house and made my way to Gray's house. I had looked up the directions before coming memorizing each path from their house to mine in case. The walk was not a long one, but not a short one. It took me half an hour to get there. I knew I was in the right neighbourhood by the size of the houses. This was definitely not like my neighbourhood. These houses were mansions. Just standing outside Gray's door made me doubt everything. I didn't belong here. Gray is from a complete different world than me.
Would I be a coward to just run back home and change my number?
Knowing Gray, he would find a way to track me down and my family would help him. I think it was their desperate attempt to make sure I was happy.
I looked down at my phone to realize I was right on time. Was I supposed to be fashionably late? God, I hadn't gone on a date in centuries. How did this whole date thing work again?
I held my breath and knocked on the door.
It only took a few moments for the door to open. To my surprise there was no butler to open the door.
Instead, I had my breath taken away. Gray stood on the other side looking more handsome than ever in a dress shirt and pants. He was dressed in all black, which made his grey eyes pop. If I thought they were captivating before, then I was in for a surprise.
"You look beautiful," he smiled, nothing about his look inappropriate. Again with that word: beautiful.
"Thank you," I mumbled looking down at my shoes.
"Come in," he said, stepping to the side.
I followed him inside gawking. His house was even bigger on the inside. The marble floors, the chandeliers, the paintings. Just how much money could two surgeons make?
"I was starting to think you were going to stand me up," said Gray turning my attention back to him as I walked behind him down the hall.
"I'm not that mean," I said.
Gray looked over his shoulder with a warm expression in his eyes. "No, you're not."
He cleared his throat before adding, "Now Ms. Best Cook I've Ever Encountered, don't critique me too hard, but I did make us something."
My brows shot up. 1) I was proud to be the best cook he's ever encountered, I was proud of my skills. 2) He actually took time and effort to make us something. I was touched.
"What is it?"
"Pizza, who knew dough was that hard to make?" he sighed, walking through a doorway.
I laughed at the image of him struggling to make dough. "It can't be that bad."
As soon as I stepped into the kitchen my jaw dropped.
"Wow," I whispered. It was the most beautiful kitchen I had ever been in.
"I don't get the use of a big kitchen if there's no one to cook in it," he shrugged, looking around with a frown.
What?!
"It's a dream kitchen, what do you mean no one cooks here?" I gasped. I would give up my right hand for a chance to cook in this kitchen.
"Well maybe I'm going to have to invite you over more often," he winked. If dating Gray meant this kitchen came with him then I was more than happy.
"Do you mind if I look around?" I asked hopefully.
"Knock yourself out," he said.
Yes!
I ran from the stove, to the fridge, to the mixers and pots.
"You do realize these are all the highest notch products?" I asked examining the mixer they had in storage.
He shook his head. Of course, only I would be fascinated by this.
*Ding*
Gray walked to the oven and pulled out the tray of pizza. He had actually done it. I was almost in awe. "Dinner is served."
So maybe this date was the complete opposite of what I thought it would be.
I think I was really going to enjoy it.
I don't know what scared me more.
