Fourteen
Yoongi had never really been the type to cuddle in bed or anything— he thinks. He had never really gotten the chance to sleep in the same bed with people other than his mother when he was young, because he used to be scared of storms and she used to hold him and sing him to sleep. Other than his old forgotten fear and his mother's late night voice, Yoongi hasn't slept in a bed with anyone.
Truth is, he would be lying if he said he hadn't cuddled pillows more than once, or maybe even almost every night, but who's counting? Yoongi just hasn't met anyone who was willing to sleep in his bed or cuddle him. He remembers one time when Hoseok had actually slept over at his place. He doesn't remember why he slept over, but he does remember how Hoseok somehow ended up cuddling him for two seconds before Yoongi whined him away like a child for some reason.
Hoseok slept in the guest room that night. They had to be professional. They work together, not sleep and cuddle together.
But Taehyung and Yoongi don't work together. They didn't even know who each other were until recently, which should be a reason for Yoongi to just say no to him, but he couldn't. Taehyung was cold at night and Yoongi truthfully was as well, because it was freezing outside and snow covered their windows and there was no heat besides the fireplace downstairs and, well, body heat.
He should've said no.
Yoongi shouldn't be so drawn in by this man to the point where he's already spilled part of his deep inner thoughts to him and to the point where he's sleeping in the same bed with him because it's too cold. That's a lame excuse. It's not an excuse. It is cold as heck, but that shouldn't make all of this okay. What sane person would sleep in the same bed as a stranger? A stranger..
What is the definition of a stranger, anyways? Someone you don't know?
If you really think about the meaning of what a stranger is, wouldn't it seem that every person on earth is a stranger— A person you don't know? Do you really know the people you think you really know? Do people really show who they really are? Aren't we all just a bunch of strangers either way?
Stranger or not, Yoongi ended up in Taehyung's bed that night.
Yoongi promised himself that he would never fall for anyone again. Promised that he would keep his thoughts to himself and never let himself feel anymore. Not for another person. Not in this world.
Yoongi got into his pajamas and made his way to Taehyung's room with his blankets and pillows in his hands. He threw them all to Taehyung, who just plopped it all onto his bed and reached for Yoongi's hand to pull him straight into him, making Yoongi fall onto him. Yeah. Yoongi promised he wouldn't fall for anyone, but hell— he was pulled in, so it was hard not to fall so easily like that.
Fall into Taehyung's arms or fall for Taehyung; either way was a trap.
The way the younger pulled Yoongi closer with his hands on his waist, and Yoongi hiding his blush at the feeling of Taehyung's soft pajamas against his skin. It all felt like too much too soon. Taehyung pulled the blanket over him and Yoongi and suddenly turned to his side, still gripping onto Yoongi as he did so.
Yoongi just let him pull him closer.
Let their knees collide and their breathing slow down as they blinked into the darkness of the room. The only light was coming from the moon. They both started going to bed earlier lately so that the moon could give them enough light to get ready for bed.
Yoongi blinked once again. The window was on Taehyung's side, so the moon shined onto his own face and only gave the outline of Taehyung's face and messy hair.
Taehyung was the first to speak after they settled into his soft, warm bed.
"We don't really have to cuddle." His eyes lit up in the dark as he smiled reassuringly at Yoongi. Yoongi didn't really know why, but that sounded like shit to him. "But, can I ask one thing?" Taehyung reached for one of the pillows under his head and placed it between them, wrapping his body around it.
"Sure." Yoongi whispered. He turned onto his back just in case Taehyung could read his expression in the moonlight. Taehyung just reached his hand forward and traced the sheets, searching for a few seconds. When his fingers landed on Yoongi's fingers, Yoongi's eyes widened and his heart skipped a beat.
"Is this okay?" Taehyung softly pressed his fingers against Yoongi's, interlocking and pressing his palm against Yoongi's. It shouldn't be okay. None of this should be okay.
"Yes." Yoongi's voice sounded like nothing. Like he didn't say it at all. He cleared his throat. "Yeah, it's okay." He tightened the hold on their hand and flipped back to face Taehyung once again. It didn't seem like much, but they both loved the feeling.
Taehyung knows that he's just a big softie when it comes to cuddling and sleeping, and he knows that Yoongi wouldn't judge him if he did or said anything that Yoongi didn't like. He felt like it was okay to test what was okay and what wasn't with him. He loves the fact that Yoongi actually lets him do these things with him.
"Goodnight, hyung."
Yoongi was actually screaming on the inside, on the outside, in an alternate universe and in his past life and any other way possible. Because of hand holding. It's so precious that he wants to scream, basically. Because since when is this hot man just a big teddy bear in secret? Yoongi's whole life is a lie and he wants to know more about Taehyung being the cuddling type when he's sleepy.
Holy hell, it's too cute for Yoongi.
Too cute and he can't sleep. Won't sleep. Probably won't ever be able to sleep while holding Taehyung's hand. Ever.
"Yeah, goodnight." He tries to steady his breathing and sleep as well.
He ends up only sleeping for three hours, and he was still holding Taehyung's hand when he finally fell asleep. Actually, he had fallen asleep by playing with Taehyung's fingers. They're so perfect and pretty and his nails are the same. So perfect. It's all too much to handle.
But when he woke up the fifth morning, his hand was no longer being held. The spot next to him in Taehyung's bed was empty and all of the blankets were placed on him.
"Taehyungie?" Yoongi rubbed his sleepy eyes as he looked at the desk in the corner of the room, spotting the other there.
Taehyung slightly jumped at the sudden voice, but he looked back at Yoongi with soft eyes. He had been sitting at the desk looking over all of his favorite photos that he's taken during his vacation, waiting for Yoongi to wake up. If he had to guess, it was about lunch time and Yoongi was just now waking up.
"You're awake." Taehyung stated.
Yoongi slightly pouted, not really knowing that he was pouting as he looked up sleepily at Taehyung. He sat up in the bed and pushed the blankets off of him.
"It's hot in here." He frowned, his eyes half shut as he pulled his shirt to fan himself off. "Why did you drown me in blankets?" He asked. Taehyung pursed his lips.
"You looked cold." He said. "But the sun actually came out this morning. Didn't think to take the blankets off of you. Sorry about that." He spun in his desk chair and looked back at his camera. "It's lunch time. Go freshen up, hyung. You've been sleeping for so long that I almost fell back asleep." He laughed as Yoongi groaned in a tiny, sleepy voice.
Yoongi hates mornings.
He liked waking up to the unfamiliar smell of someone else, though. And he liked that Taehyung was there to remind him that life goes beyond sleeping it away.
"Mkay." Yoongi sighed. "But I'm coming back here after I shower. I got no sleep last night." He pouted as he got out of the bed and waddled away towards the door. Taehyung hummed at Yoongi's statement.
"Need some TaeTae cuddles to sleep better?" He smiled innocently as Yoongi just shrugged back at him.
"Maybe."
Taehyung's smile disappeared as Yoongi did. Maybe? As in he may actually let Taehyung cuddle him?
-
When Yoongi finished showering, brushing his teeth, fixing his hair and freshening up in general, he somehow actually found himself walking back to Taehyung's room. Like he was meant to do it or something.
Taehyung was still looking at photos and didn't even notice Yoongi walk in. Yoongi just laid back in his original spot, this time wearing his black sweatpants and beige t-shirt.
"Good photos?" He asked.
Taehyung nodded and spun his chair back around, finally looking up from his camera. Some of his pictures weren't as good, but he had a lot of beautiful photos in his camera.
"Want to see?" Taehyung asked.
Yoongi nodded and Taehyung made his way to the bed, jumping onto it and sighing contently as he tilted the camera in the older's direction. The photos that he showed Yoongi were either of random things that they had both seen around or of Yoongi. Yoongi hadn't even realized that Taehyung had been taking these photos half of the time, but they were nicely shot and some were beautiful.
"They're pretty." Yoongi took the camera in his own hands and flipped through the photos he liked, admiring them and liking the art.
Taehyung smiled, his cheeks pressing into the pillow as he turned to look at Yoongi. Yoongi's hair was pushed back so he could see clearly and his bare face was such a pretty sight. Taehyung wished that Yoongi didn't have his camera in this moment. He'd love to take a photo of him and keep it forever.
"So pretty." Taehyung whispered as his eyes landed on a small mole in the dent in Yoongi's skin where his collar bone poked out at. It was nothing big, but it looked so cute.
Yoongi felt the stare in the side of his head. He turned his head from the camera and his lips parted slightly as his eyes met the pretty brown ones next to him. Taehyung was staring back at him, closer than he had ever felt next to Taehyung. Their faces were just inches apart. Taehyung's lips were slightly chapped and Yoongi couldn't help but look down and lick his own. They both could feel the unsaid actions between them.
If they wanted to, either of the two could just lean forward and connect their lips, getting all of the tension and throwing it out of the door. Kissing, and adding a puzzle piece to their— whatever this is. Friendship?
But they didn't.
Neither of them leaned in.
Neither of them knew what to do. Taehyung swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry and his eyelids heavy, flickering as he tried to choose between looking at Yoongi's lips or looking into his eyes instead.
Instead of kissing Yoongi, he reached his hand up and took his camera from the older, surprising him as he did so. Yoongi finally let loose of the trance that he was in. He honestly didn't know what to do. Neither of them did. They made eye contact once more, and Yoongi was about to say something, but then..
"I'm hungry." Taehyung leaned over and placed his camera on his bedside table before he threw his long legs off of his bed. The older watched as he stretched as if everything was fine and dandy. Maybe it was fine for him. Maybe Taehyung actually hadn't felt the way that Yoongi felt just then.
"O-Okay." Yoongi finally decided to follow the younger to the kitchen.
Taehyung felt like a complete idiot every time he looked at Yoongi, now. They were just cooking themselves some noodles, but every small movement that Yoongi made was driving Taehyung insane. He knew he was crazy for wanting to kiss Yoongi a few minutes ago. He knew it wasn't a good idea, but the look in Yoongi's eyes as he looked back at him and the sight of those pretty pink lips that were parted just enough to see Yoongi's front teeth to show was making Taehyung feel dizzy. He wished that he could freeze time and stay like that for forever. It was breathtaking.
But they're strangers.
They've only known each other for one night and five days. The longest five days they've ever lived. And Yoongi does look so pretty, like Taehyung had been thinking in the moment. He didn't mean to seem so creepy, and even now as he watches Yoongi place his noodles in his pot, he feels slightly overwhelmed.
Taehyung felt trapped now more than ever. Some people believe in love at first sight. Taehyung is not those people. Hell, he's never even been in love before. He's worked with hundreds and maybe even thousands of people, but he's never ever had trouble with anyone like this before. To be honest, it's not even trouble caused by Yoongi. It's Taehyung's own fault that he's feeling this way.
It's his own fault for wanting to pinch Yoongi's cheeks and press his lips against the soft skin on them. It's his own fault for being so touchy with Yoongi and going so far as to basically guilt tripping Yoongi into sleeping in his bed last night. It's his own fault that he held Yoongi's hand and it's his fault that he let drunk Yoongi cuddle him a few days ago.
It's Taehyung's fault that he paid so much attention to someone other than himself for once. It's his own fault that he liked to observe everything about Yoongi like he did.
Taehyung hasn't had a crush on someone in years. Since high school. He's never even been in a serious relationship before. All he's ever known is photography and Jimin.
That's a poor excuse of a life. Min Yoongi could change that in an instant if he would. Not like he would, though.
Watching Yoongi lean against the counter, his smooth arms on display for once and his small body pressing against the lower cabinets— Taehyung knows he's messed up when he thinks about holding Yoongi's small waist and pulling him in for a kiss like they've been dating for years or something. It's all bad thoughts that he has and he knows it.
Why would he think those sort of things? If Yoongi knew his thoughts, he'd probably run out the lodge and down the mountain instead of waiting for the power to come back on.
"This.." Taehyung pointed at Yoongi's noodles, causing Yoongi to look up in confusion. "Very unique way to cook noodles, you know." He said awkwardly.
Yoongi nodded his head and tried not to smile. "Jungkookie's way."
Taehyung still isn't used to his boss being called Jungkookie, but he can get used to the adorable habit of Yoongi adding "ie" at the end of everyone's names as a nickname.
"Does it taste better?" Taehyung leaned against the other side of the counter as Yoongi stirred his noodles. Yoongi turned to look at him and nodded his head softly.
"It tastes delicious." He stated. "I'll let you try when they're done."
And he did let Taehyung try. After they finished cooking, they made their way to the living room to eat at the couch instead of eating at the dinner table. The sun had finally started shining through the big window unlike other days where it would shine through the clouds. But it was still cold, so they did have the fireplace lit and their bare feet pointed to it.
"I'm really going to miss your cooking." Taehyung said after tasting Yoongi's noodles. He kind of really hated the fact that the last day here at the lodge was coming so soon. He even caught himself hoping that the power would stay out longer just so they can stay here together longer.
"You know," Yoongi started to say as he placed his bowl on the coffee table and turned to the little table next to the couch. He opened the drawer to it and pulled out a notebook that Taehyung hadn't seen before. It had little writings and scribbles on it. Yoongi took out a pen and started to write something. "here." He ripped off the paper and held it out.
Taehyung stared in confusion at Yoongi's hand, which was holding a little too tightly onto the paper, making it crumble at the end. He took the paper and flipped it over, his eyes widening as he realized that it was Yoongi's number scribbled onto the paper as if he was unsure whether he should write it or not.
"Your number?" Taehyung's eyes were wide and his voice almost cracked as he spoke. Yoongi nodded his head and looked away.
"I mean, you don't have to use it." Yoongi scratched at his own knee, his short nails not hurting much. "I'm just saying.. If you ever want me to.. I don't know.. Cook? For you?" His face was turning red and his heartbeat could probably be loud enough to send a signal down the mountain and save them from their power problem.
His whole body was sending, in big letters: "I'M NERVOUS".
Taehyung merely ignored that part and reached for the notebook in Yoongi's hand. "If I call you, what's the chances of you ignoring the call?" He wrote his own number down and gave it to Yoongi. "Save my contact... You know, when we get our phones back from the dead." He laughed.
Yoongi laughed with him, making his tense body loosen up some.
"Will do."
-
The sun would set in an hour or two. The two men had been telling time by the sun if they could because there were no clocks here and their phones were both dead. It should be dinner time for them, but they've been sitting by the fire all day and they didn't want to get up from it. They'd rather sit here and talk.
"Doesn't this look kind of romantic?" Taehyung suddenly asked. Yoongi just blinked at him in pure confusion.
The fireplace was giving a warm glow into the room, shining on both of them and making their skin glow. They had started to sweat a little, but that was okay because it was still getting colder as the sun made its way down. They were on opposite sides of the couch, staring at the fire instead of each other.
"It just seems romantic." Taehyung said once again, as if Yoongi hadn't heard him the first time. "Just imagine you're sitting here— like us." He closed his eyes and left Yoongi to sit alone and imagine, just like he wanted. "You're sitting there and you just let your hand inch closer, and it gets warmer when your hands intertwine together. And when you kiss, it starts off sweet, but then.." He stopped.
Taehyung opens his eyes and looks at Yoongi. "You get the point."
Yoongi gulped and nodded.
"Who exactly do you think of when you think of that scenario?" Yoongi asked. "Your fuck buddy?" He wanted to roll his eyes.
Taehyung's eyes wondered curiously towards Yoongi. Their eyes met for a second before Taehyung let his eyes fall, searching for Yoongi's hand. He remembers holding it so well. Remembers the exact feeling he had as he fell asleep holding onto him.
"Jimin?" Taehyung scoffed. "I think that's out of the question at this point." He looked back up into Yoongi's eyes and shrugged. Yoongi turned away and tried to be calm.
"Why do you say that?"
Taehyung chuckled. "He's probably fucking someone as we speak." He said. "Maybe I want to settle down." He said more quietly.
Yoongi couldn't keep still anymore. Taehyung suddenly wants to settle down and Yoongi suddenly wants to shut his heart off because he's positive that Taehyung can hear his heartbeat beating into his chest.
Why? Yoongi couldn't help but put himself in a situation where he's the one that Taehyung settles down with. Ever since the thought crossed his mind, he couldn't stop thinking— as usual.
"W-With who?"
Taehyung had that familiar smirk on his face as he stretched out on the couch and spread his legs to get more comfortable. Yoongi looked away as Taehyung's dark eyes met his.
"Well, there is this one person—"
And just like that, there was a sudden flash and light was shining through the room, making both of the men gasp in surprise. The refrigerator started running in the kitchen and the heat finally came on, sending heat and sound finally came back to the lodge. The lights in the lodge lit up the whole place, something that the two had to get used to now.
No more needing their lantern for every step they take. No more having to find their lighters and no more struggling to do things. No more of the same food and water they've had for five days. No more coldness and no more being stuck on the mountain. The lift should work now. They're free. Neither of the two said anything for a minute, not sure of what to say, really. Is the power in the lodge a good or bad thing? Should they go to their rooms and put their phones on their chargers and ignore the other? Would either of the two leave the lodge and never come back?
Taehyung frowned.
What if Yoongi just left?
But Yoongi had the same thoughts as well.
What if Taehyung left?
"Hyung," Taehyung looked out of the window to see that the sun wouldn't set for another thirty minutes or so. "Let's go charge our phones. I want to take you out for dinner." He said suddenly.
Yoongi's lips parted in confusion.
"Huh?"
"You've cooked for me for days, now." Taehyung stood up. "I want to pay for your dinner. So.. Go get your phone charged up and dress nice." He said.
Yoongi watched as Taehyung cheerfully put out his lantern and ran up the stairs without having to use a light. The light was finally back on. They finally have power after five days.
And Taehyung wants dinner.
It was a shock for him to ask Yoongi to go get dressed, but he did. And he also charged his phone and scrunched his nose as he realized that he had no notifications. Then he realized that he didn't have good signal up on the mountain, so even if they did have their phones, they couldn't have contacted anyone to save them from here.
Eventually, they both got dressed.
Taehyung wore a black and white dress shirt tucked loosely into black skinny jeans with a nice belt to add a little dazzle to it. He also had on bracelets and his hair was fixed a little differently. It was wavy and he had on a headband. When Yoongi first saw him, he almost let his knees go weak and his whole body give in. Yoongi only wore a black shirt tucked into his black skinny jeans. He also had a black and white jacket over his shirt, but he figured that he looked underdressed compared to Kim-Freaking-Taehyung right now.
Neither of the two said much as they used their phone light to make their way to the lift. It reminded them of their first day here— except there wasn't hate lingering in the air. Instead, Yoongi found himself barely being able to breathe every time he looked at the back of Taehyung's body. It took everything in him not to shine his flashlight on him.
His body was so perfectly made, his legs were long, and his ass looked good in the jeans he was wearing as well. His figure was outlined by Yoongi's light and it looked amazing.
When they got to the lift, they sat across from each other. Taehyung had his legs opened wide and his hand hanging in front of his crotch. Yoongi thought he'd suffocate if he stayed with Taehyung any longer, but he got himself together and managed not to stare too much at the beautiful man.
"Where do you plan on taking us to eat?" Yoongi asked once they got out of the lift. Taehyung held up his phone and smiled back at Yoongi.
"You'll see." He said as he started to search for a taxi service on his phone. Yoongi just nodded his head. As long as he survives this night, he'll be fine. He wouldn't care if Taehyung took him to a food truck and called it a day. He just wants to not stare at Taehyung.
Is that so hard to do?
-
The younger of the two was very pleased with the restaurant he found on the internet. He was refreshed by the world outside of the lodge. They had been packed in with no light like vampires for days. He was just glad to explore more of America. Yoongi on the other hand was nervous to be out. He'd thought countless times about how he would go out and eat when the power came back on, but he never thought of eating with Taehyung out at a fancy restaurant.
The table they were sat at by the host was a table for two, but it was a booth all the way around the room, so it was like everyone shared one big seat. And the two had to sit next to each other instead of sitting across from each other like normal.
Yoongi stared hard at the salt shaker as Taehyung sat next to him and his leg brushed against his. The waiter greeted them with a smile, but he kept eyeing Yoongi. Yoongi wasn't sure how to speak english, either, so it made him even more anxious to be there.
"What can I get you, today?" The waiter asked in english. He was looking at Yoongi still. Taehyung wanted to shove his menu in his face, but instead he held it up and showed it to the waiter with a slight glare in his eyes.
"This." Taehyung pointed at what he wanted on the menu. The waiter finally looked at him, but after he wrote down the order, his eyes were back to looking at Yoongi.
"For you?" He asked with a smile.
Yoongi felt like he wanted to disappear because of the two pairs of eyes on him. "I-I want this." It sounded more like a question because of the english, but he pointed at the menu anyways, so the waiter knew what he wanted. The waiter was smiling because Yoongi's voice became smaller, just like him.
"Coke to drink." Taehyung suddenly became fluent in english. He placed his big hand on Yoongi's inner thigh, causing Yoongi to place his own hand on it in surprise. His hand covered most of Yoongi's thigh and it honestly was warm to touch, but he wasn't focused on that. "For both." Taehyung pointed at him and Yoongi. The waiter merely nodded.
He had noticed Taehyung's hand.
"I'll be back with your food."
Neither of the two cared about what the waiter said. Yoongi was too busy freaking out by Taehyung's warm touch and Taehyung was too busy glaring at the waiter before he walked away. He took his hand out from under Yoongi's and away from Yoongi's thigh.
"Are you crazy?" Yoongi didn't mean to sound so triggered, but he couldn't help it.
Taehyung frowned. "Did you not want coke?" He asked. Yoongi just stared blankly at him.
It wasn't even too big of a deal. All Taehyung did was touch his leg. It's no big deal.
"It's fine." Yoongi smiled weakly at Tae. Another thing that Yoongi's good at besides overthinking is overreacting. "It's seriously fine." He said as Taehyung tried to get the waiters attention to change Yoongi's drink.
"Are you sure?" Taehyung asked, his eyes wide as he looked at Yoongi. He looked like he did something wrong. Like a toddler that was about to get in trouble. Yoongi genuinely smiled up at him, the fear in Taehyung's eyes letting Yoongi know that he actually cared if he did something wrong.
"Positive, Tae."
