23 | shut up and dance with me
THEY started playing the first song. The air was filled with cheers, music, and happiness. Everett was mesmerised. He was watching his favourite band play live and that too, this close. All thanks to Aahana. He glimpsed at her swaying her body to the music absentmindedly.
Then, his favourite song played; Fallin' (adrenaline). He found himself looking at Aahana more than listening to the songs. He couldn't take his eyes off her as she danced to the music. She was pushed by another fan towards him. She laughed and stood on her toes. He leaned down.
"I love this song!" She yelled which sounded more like a whisper. He nodded and yelled that it was his favourite song. She shot him a sceptical look.
"Why aren't you dancing, then?"
He shrugged. "Dancing isn't my thing!"
She slapped his chest. "Shut up, you drama queen. Dance!"
"No, I'll just listen!"
"Come on, dance with me!" It was an order. "The world is spinning, we can't just stand on it."
She swung her hands in the air while her feet moved to the beats. Everett sighed nervously and just tapped his feet while cocking his head. Aahana peered at him and laughed hysterically. She shook her head and made him face her. She threw her hands around his shoulder, keeping her distance and moved her shoulders to the rhythm.
Everett cracked into a half-smile and tried to copy her. When the volume of the music increased, she threw her one hand in the air and danced. Others were watching her, including the band members but she was just dancing to the music with her eyes closed. Everett began to loosen up. His eyes fixed on her.
The stars above them twinkled. The moon blushed and hid behind the cloud. One of the band members, Daniel Seavey whispered something to his other bandmate and they smiled at Aahana. But Everett wasn't paying attention. He didn't even know his favourite band were staring at them with content, all he cared about was the girl in front of him. He slid his hand on her waist and she opened her eyes quickly. She blushed, her moves slowing down a little.
Jack Avery crouched down to them while singing. "What's your name?" He asked Aahana.
"Aahana," she smiled at him. He smiled back and stood up. He made that "I'm watching you" hand gesture to her and she chuckled.
"We see you, Aahana. We see you," He said before going back to singing.
"They like you!" He told her.
So do I. He wanted to add.
"What's not to like?" She replied sarcastically and they laughed while dancing.
The concert was over. But both Aahana and Everett were pumped up with energy. They danced for the whole concert. The band outdid themselves even though Everett paid least of his attention to music. His eyes never left her. The ground started to clear off as they made their way back to their hotel in Peakview. They were about to jump back in the van when someone called.
"Ay, Aahana!" Both of them turned around. It was the band following them in black hoodies to disguise themselves.
"Hey, guys! You were awesome!" Aahana grinned at them. She was nonchalant. She didn't know how obsessively famous they were. Any other girl would've leapt and hugged them but Aahana was casual—as if they were her old friends.
"No, you were awesome. You killed us with your dancing!" Zack Herron countered.
"Thank you, man!"
Oh, God. Everett thought. She doesn't know their name.
"You and your boyfriend make a fine couple," Corbyn said. Before they could protest, Jonah added, "Here. This is for you." He handed them their latest merch.
"Oh, my goodness. Thank you so much!" Aahana took the hoodies and brushed a hand against its material. "I wanted one!"
Damn smooth. Everett held back his smile.
"Anyway, we should go. Hope you enjoyed the concert!" They ran back in a rush but did turn around to wave back. She waved back at him. They both smiled at each other and jumped back in the van. This time Everett was going to drive.
"They are hella talented. And handsome young men." She chuckled as Everett brought the engine to life.
"You don't know who they are, do you?"
She chuckled. "Not a clue, Miller. Not a clue."
And on their back journey, Everett told her about the band.
if you haven't guessed already, this whole concert scene was inspired by Shut Up And Dance With Me by WALK THE MOON. what's your all time favourite song?
