It was a beautiful day like any other, clear blue skies, fragrant roses in full bloom, the town and its people basking in the bright colours of Spring that had finally arrived once more. And along with it, a new year and a new Social Season that everyone has been anticipating. The new Season was on everyone's mind, every mother and daughter having the dream of a royal fairytale-like proposal just like the previous year with the long lost Princess finally coming back to take her seat as the new heir with her new husband to be.

The standards are higher, the frocks are more luxurious, the events are more extravagant and the romance was more prominent.

Some say that this season would not beat the last but who's to say it won't be as special to the lucky couples who find true love this year.

But there are some who despises the Social Season and the expectations that come with it, no more despising it than Five Hagreeves himself who was forced to look for a wife. He had managed to escape the last 9 years of participating in the Social Seasons, now 27, he could not escape it any longer seeing as he was the last of the Hargreeves siblings to find a partner.

"Brother, do not look so glum. Maybe you will find someone to marry." Klaus says as he takes a sip of whiskey while the said brother grumbled under his breath as he fixed his cuffs in front of a mirror.

"If there is someone who would want to marry the angry grouch such as himself." Ben muses and Diego laughs.

"If there is such a woman, she is a miracle."

"Go ahead, continue to mock me but do not come running back if your partners give you strife." Five rolls his eyes as his married brothers silence themselves into their cups of alcohol.

Klaus was married to Dave who was a retired soldier from the frontlines, Ben married to Jill who was a teacher for a woman's university, Diego married to Lila who was a commanding officer for the frontlines, Viktor married to Sissy who was a children's school teacher and Luther married to Carol who was the owner of a famous sweet shop.

"Do not worry brother, we will continue to mock you even when Social Season has ended. What are brothers for." Viktor chuckles and Five glares at him.

"I see the men are taking much longer than the girls. As usual." Allison pipes up from the drawing-room door with her brother's wives and Dave snickering. Allison was the only sister in the Hargreeves family, married to Lord Chestnut who was another Lord.

"Make haste brothers, father is waiting for us." Luther says and he walks up from behind Alison with his news and all the siblings walk out together down the large steps.

These were the Hargreeves siblings, 7 in total and all as extraordinary as the last. Children to Reginald Hargreeves, a famous inventor and Grace Hargreeves who is a famous socialite. From eldest to youngest was Luther, Diego, Alison, Klaus, Ben, Viktor and Five. Despite Luther being the oldest, Five was the heir to the Hargreeves bloodline as he was the legitimate son to Reginald and Grace whereas his siblings were all adopted.

The Hargreeves siblings wore their finest suits and their most luxurious gown, setting down onto the foyer to greet their father and their mother. "I see you all have arrived. Good." Lord Hargreeves nod at his children. "This season will be the most important season yet. Not only because Five is to find a partner," Reginald looks at his son with a narrowed glare as Five rolls his eyes. "but because we will be sponsoring the daughters of a close and dear friend of mine for this season too." The doorbell suddenly rang just in time.

"That must be them!" Grace was eager to meet the girls as she had hoped to pamper them like her own daughters. Having only one daughter in a midst of sons had her miss those mother daughter moments now Allison was married so she hoped she could spend time with these girls and coddle them.

"I want you all to be on your best behaviour and I mean all of you." The siblings all looked at each other with cheeky smiles. "Now, heads up straight, poise and grace. Good." Reginald nods at his children, a swell of pride in his heart as he looks at his footman to open the door for his family to walk out and greet his guests. They all walk out the door with their partner on their arm, except for Five, standing before the carriage that was before them in their large front garden of their ancestral family hall.

The siblings all watched as the footman opened the door to the carriage, eager to know who would dare be their father's friend. He wasn't specifically known for his kind disposition. A young woman stepped out of the carriage first with the help of the footman, wearing the most beautiful pale rose dress with sequins and gems. She had a bright smile on her face, kind eyes and such a precious and innocent aura to her.

"Eh, maybe you two might end up together." Diego mocks Five who was fed up with his brother's antics.

"Lord and Lady Hargreeves. It is such an honour to finally meet you." The young woman bows politely.

"The honour is all ours to meet the youngest daughter of my closest friend." Reginald and Grace both bow. "But I must say, I was expecting to see your father. Has he not arrived with you?" before anyone could utter a word, another figure stepped out from the carriage, ignoring the hand of the footmen as they jumped down.

"Her father is much shorter than I had in mind..." Klaus whispers to Viktor.

"Klaus!" Allison scolds him but the two just giggled. Five watched with curiosity as this person stood before him in a suit, white gloves donning their hands and a large feathered hat on their head that covered their face.

"Father sends his apologies Lord Hargreeves as he wasn't well enough to make the journey for this season." Everyone holds in their gasp as the figure lifts their head.

"You're a woman." Luther blurts out and the woman looks at him.

"And will that be a problem sir?" Five bites back his laugh at the flustered expression on his brother's face.

"N-no, it's just that you are not wearing a gown-"

"-the fashions where we live are more advanced than here. Plus, I couldn't let my little sister travel on her own with a strange man. Of course, I had to be with her to keep her safe." the older sister placed a hand on the youngers shoulder protectively. "But I needed to dress as a man to let her travel with me alone."

"That is understandable. Please send my regards to your father." Reginald nods.

"Thank you, I will. Now, please let me introduce my little sister, 18 years old and youngest of the family (s/f/n)."

"Pleasure to meet you all."

"And I am Viscountess (y/f/n), the oldest of 26 years."

"It is an honour to finally meet you both!" Grace grins happily at the girls before her. Five could see the stark difference between the sisters, a more naive and innocent younger sister while the oldest was bolder and assured. "Please come inside. The journey must have been quite long." The Hargreeves siblings let the sisters pass by them first towards the house.

"And yes, my father is quite a short man." (y/n) says and Klaus gasps.

"She heard me!" Five caught the glimpse of a coy smirk on (y/n)'s face.

Maybe this season will not be so bad.

Everyone soon files into the painting room for refreshments, the sisters sitting together as the Hargreeves' milled about. Five sat down on a chair, watching as (y/n) took her hat off with her hair freely falling over her shoulders before taking off her gloves.

"So will you both be participating in the Social Season this year?" Grace asks as the maids serve the sisters some tea which they thank them for.

"No, only (s/n) will be participating. I'll be her escort."

"That is a shame dear. Have you not thought about settling down?"

"Why would I when I need to make sure my sister is well taken care of. It's my duty to ensure her comfort."

"I see you have taken up the responsibilities as heir. Your father must be proud." Reginald says and Five was able to sympathise with (y/n).

"Love, let these girls settle into their rooms for now. They must be tired." Grace says and her husband agrees.

"Your handmaidens will show you to your rooms that we have set out for you. We hope that it is to your liking."

"You've already done so much for us, taking us in when father had asked you." (y/n) says as the sisters stand up.

"Nonsense dears! I'm glad to have you here!" Grace smiles at the girls, taking hold of (s/n) hand to lead her to her room

"We hope that your stay here is pleasant." Five speaks up for the first time yet and (y/n) curtly nods at him, not once expressing a smile since the moment she arrived.

It was a silent and peaceful night, the large forest and the garden of the Hargreeves Hall gently moving from the warm breeze. The single candlelight wavered its orange glow over the piles of paper scattered over the desk (y/n) was hunched over, working as her quill scribbled across the pages.

This wasn't an unusual sight, her working from day till night as the Viscountess of her family lineage. Signing documents, matching account books, writing letters to other lords and ladies... no wonder she couldn't sleep at night.

She sighed as she dropped the quill, a headache forming as she rubbed the sides of her head. "I need tea..." she groans softly in pain before standing up, taking the candle with her and slipping from her bedroom silently so she didn't wake anyone up. She walked past the Hargreeves' bedroom, not realising that one of them had spotted the candlelight.

Five was still awake as he usually was, signing documents and checking the family account books when he saw an orange glow journey past his room.

Who can possibly be awake at this time?

Five narrowed his eyes thinking that it was an intruder, getting up and slipping from his bedroom to follow the thief after grabbing his pistol from his drawer. He followed the intruder down the stairs and towards the kitchen, concerned about how well they knew the floor plan of his house. Five was about to attack the thief when he froze in his spot, hearing someone humming softly instead. He leaned around the corner and saw that it was the oldest sister rummaging in the kitchen, making some tea for herself.

He was slightly surprised at her being up at this hour but even surprised by her attire. She didn't wear the nightgowns like most of his sisters wore, instead wearing a tunic shirt and long pants with a robe. He had never seen anyone wear this before. He watched with amusement seeing the girl before him search the cupboards as quietly as she could, trying to find the items she needed. Five leaned against the doorway as he hid his pistol, arms crossed while listening to (y/n) hum while she made her tea.

"You know I could have woken up one of the maids and ask them to make the tea for you instead." There was a surprised squeak of fright from (y/n) as she quickly turned her head.

"Shit, you scared me!" Five almost stumbled from the curse that fell from the girl's lips.

She swore!?

"Don't sneak up on me like that!" she turned back around, grabbing the kettle before it whistles too loudly and Five was shocked that she knew how to use the kitchen appliances. Truth be told, no one in his family knew how to use it, including him. Most of the nobles didn't have to learn seeing as they had their family maids and house butlers. "You could've just knocked on the door or something and no, I don't want anyone else to wake up just because I can't sleep." the girl hissed out, the headache getting to her and Five didn't appreciate her tone.

"Watch-"

"-I apologise." (Y/n) sighs as she turns back around, gently placing two cups on the table filled with tea. "I shouldn't have snapped at you." Five notices the tired look in her eyes and nods, knowing that he had snapped once or twice at his own family from his lack of sleep.

"I understand." He takes the cup gingerly, sighing against the sweetness of the tea when he takes a sip. "Normally I prefer something stronger like Gin but thank you." Five earns a quiet chortle from the older sister who agrees.

"Why are you awake at this hour?" (Y/n) asks as she sat on a stool, gently blowing on her tea to cool it down and Five joined her on the other side of the table.

"I could ask you the same thing." He retorts back, raising a brow at the girl.

"I had some work I needed to complete. I'm guessing you had the same." She looks at Five who nods, rubbing the back of his neck.

The two fall silent once more, drinking their beverage while Five thought of something to say to his guest. His attention was caught by (y/n) who looked out the window, looking out at the full moon that peeked behind the drifting clouds. She almost looked like a dream to him and he wondered if he was seeing things.

"Why are you still in your suit?" Five blinks as he was broken out of his reverie, looking down to see that he indeed was still in his daily suit.

"And why are you wearing menswear?" Five questions back, earning a raised brow from (y/n).

"They're more comfortable to wear than the women's clothes. Plus I get cold very easily, been like that since I was little." Five hums, falling silent again. The sister finishes her tea and bids him goodbye, walking past him to leave the kitchen. When she did, Five couldn't help but take in the lingering smell of lilies from the girl that disappeared from his sight.
