Five sighed as he walked down the pathway, dodging people along the way as he wasn't in the mood to dispose of a body cleanly. He grumpily walked into a small alleyway, his hands shoved in his pockets as he came across what seemed to be a small library.
"Odd." Five mutters out as he opened the door to welcome a soft cinnamon smell and the cute tingling sound of the doorbell. He was swarmed with a sense of warmth and the familiar smell of books as he closed the door behind him to creep down the shelves of books. "God is this heaven on earth." Five sighs out, a slight smile on his lips as he trailed his eyes down the book spines, trying to find something that might catch his eyes. And there was one.
There was a single bright red book standing between old brown leather books that looked faded whereas the red book looked very new. "What's this doing here?" Five took the book out and saw that there was no title. He flipped to the first page to find it empty but realised it was a journal and not a book. He flipped to the next page again and blinks at the written words within the lines.
'Can't believe I'm doing this again. Why do I even bother seriously? I started this before and just never used that journal after and I'm doing it again? Jeez, am I that bored and eager to spend cash on unused journals? Bruh'
Five snickers as he read of the words, going to go sit down on one of the couches with a pen in his hand. He doesn't understand what got over him but Five started writing the words down underneath the mystery entry.
'I don't know why you started writing but you must be extremely bored to do this again huh? How many journals have you bought and never used?'
Five snickers as he places the pen down, getting up to put the book back where he first found it and leaves the quant little library that had given him a reason to look forward to the next day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I've been looking for this journal for days! I can't believe I left it in the library and some stranger just starts writing in it. Thank god I didn't put anything embarrassing in here, well except for my atrocious handwriting. I pray for your eyes. Who are you, by the way, mysterious notebook person?'
Five chuckles as he reads and walks back to his spot on the couch sat next to the open window with the pots of flowers circling around it outside. He takes his pen out from his pocket, clicking on the pen and deciding if he should write or not.
'I have to agree with you, I struggled reading your atrocious writing. How in the world does someone forget a notebook? Especially when it's the brightest thing here? I pray that your eyes are working. And who I am, well that's for me to know and for you to never find out.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'You would be so surprised at how forgetful I am. I'm like Dory with her short memory loss lol. And for the record, I wear glasses so yes, my eyesight is terrible haha. And the mystery notebook person wants to stay mysterious. Interesting. You're not some creep are you?'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I am not some creep, well not some predator who is bothered to write in this dingy journal and stalk a stranger. I don't have the time for that nor am I bothered to. Also, what does lol stand for?'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Holy shit, you must be some old dude if you don't know what lol means! It means 'Laugh Out Loud', it's an acronym. Also, you never know, this could be some sort of psychological trick that predators use to lure strangers. I mean, you're still writing in here and leaving the book here for me soooooo......'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey! I am not some old man! I am only 18! There are people my age who do not know what that means. And the only reason I am still writing in here is because you amuse me. Never in my life would I have thought that I would be conversing through a journal.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'You talk like an old man and there is no way you're 18. Also, you're legit a guy!? Well, you could be lying but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're telling the truth. And I'm glad I amuse you, I live to bring smiles haha. I also think it's pretty cool how we're talking to each other through here. SO MUCH BETTER USE OF THIS JOURNAL!'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Yes, I am a guy. And what about you? I should at least have the courtesy of knowing something about you since you know this piece of information about me. And I don't talk like an old man-actually scratch that, I am just more sophisticated than you lol.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'*LE GASP* YOU USED LOL! YOU ACTUALLY USED LOL! Lowkey proud actually. Btw, I'm a girl and you're a very confident little shit aren't ya lol.'
Five grins as he read over the entry, imagining his mysterious pen pal scoffing at his last entry.
'Confident? Maybe.'
Five hesitated, his pen hovering over the journal as a question lingered in his mind. "I should just go for it. No harm right?" Five shakes his head and continues writing.
'This may seem a little forward but, I was wondering if we could get to know each other more.'
Five heaves in a shaky breath, quickly closing the book and teleporting away before he could scribble out his words. His heart was racing, instant regret flooding through him/
"Fuck, I shouldn't have written that!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I wouldn't mind that. How do you want to do it? Like 21 questions.'
Five didn't understand why but his heart jumped at the confirmation his mysterious pen pal gave him, eager to learn who this girl was.
Five sat on his bed, flipping through the pages that were filled with numerous pages. He and his mystery pen pal have been talking to each other for months now, describing their everyday life to each other and even the smallest of details like how their siblings would annoy them. Something Five learnt along with other things was how his pen pal also had a sister, younger than her though.
"My dear little ol' brother that I missed very dearly!" Klaus suddenly barges into Fives bedroom, holding a bottle of vodka in one hand while he tried to stay standing up against the doorframe.
"1. I'm older than you, you moron. 2. What the fuck are you doing here?" Five sighs out. He may love his family but there are times that he questions his loyalty to them.
"What? Can't I hang out with my baby bro?" Klaus hiccups and Five was so close to slamming the door on the drunk brunette when he drops his body next to Five. "Ooooo! Whatcha got there!? Fivey wivey writing out his deepest darkest secrets!?"
"Klaus, if you don't want to die an early death, I suggest you hand that over this instant." Five growls out, a ferocious and dangerous calm on his face as Klaus blinked at him.
"Nah." Klaus snickers, running off while reading out loud the journal as Five chased after him.
"KLAUS!" Five growls out, space jumping after his brother as he landed on the couch.
"Hey, this mystery girl sounds an awful like my friend (y/-OW!" Klaus pouts as Five grabs the journal back and wacks him on the head with it before walking off.
"Be glad I didn't do worse than that." Five sighs as he spatial jumps to the rooftop, quickly jotting down what happened.
'You would not believe who had the audacity to go against me right now. My brother Klaus just took the journal from and started running around and reading it out loud. He is so annoying sometimes.'
Five sighs out under the setting sun, flipping a few pages back to an old entry that had a polaroid picture of the beach his pen pal had taken for him.
'My friends and I are recently going out more for our own little adventures! I'm so glad we are cause I was hoping to do this with them, you know, live that stereotypical 18-year-old movie life where we go on journeys to figure out who we are and all that jazz. I have to admit though, I felt so free with the wind blowing through my hair and the sun basking on me.
Fuck, I'm being so cheesy right now aren't I lol? I feel like I can write anything and you would understand. Like how sometimes I just want to run away, escape my life sometimes and just live. I feel so stuck in place. I want to leave so bad sometimes. Just leave everything behind. Is that so bad?'
Five frowns, reading the entry beneath the beautiful photograph and running his fingers over the dried spots where his pen pal's tears must have landed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'Wait wait wait, hold on. Klaus!? By any chance does your brother have like long shaggy brown hair, goodbye and hello tattoos on his hands? If you do, holy shit, I know a Klaus like that too! He's an old friend of mine who helped me stop drinking so much. Wish I could say the same for him but damn does the man love his vodka. I met his family once, it was a long time back. I remember this very cold and rude little brother of his, but I have to admit, he was quite handsome.'
Five's breath hitches in his throat as he reads the entry. "Klaus knows my mystery girl!" His eyes land over the last line and he smirks, his ego spiking knowing his mystery girl thought he was handsome. "Let's see what else she says about me." Five grins, planning a little game.
'Different Klaus, sorry. Tell me more about the rude little brother though. Must be an asshole.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'I bet he is! He didn't say hi to me at all! Well, maybe he was just shy and stuff but my god is he handsome. Like, I've never swooned over a guys appearance before since I tend to avoid them at all cost but he just caught my eye. There seemed to be something mysterious hidden beneath his green eyes. Like he was hiding decades of knowledge but he looked so, distant, so in pain.'
"Pain?" Five mutters as he read the entry, sitting at a secluded place in the park just opposite the street full of shops.
'Idk, I just recognise someone in pain from experience. The signs and the facade we hide behind.'
Five jumps slightly at the soft patter against the journal, a spot on the page dampened by his sudden tears. He smiled a bittersweet smile, the words someone soothing some of the trauma in his heart when someone, with a mere encounter, knew that he wasn't ok.
'I bet he would appreciate you just being there for him.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'How's your day been so far? Mine's just filled with school and work. Ugh, I just started a few weeks ago and I'm already sick and tired of classes. I want to go back to sleeping honestly.'
Five chuckled, knowing that his pen pal loved to sleep and be lazy. He flipped over the page and was surprised to see a drawing. It was done in pen with basic sketching of what seemed to be arms holding a cup of something hot with the background of a window.
'My friend found this really cute coffee shop just opposite this park that made the best hot chocolate. Not close to as my amazing hot chocolate but close enough that I wouldn't mind coming back to buy another cup. I forgot my polaroid camera so I decided to draw it. Excuse the terrible art lol. It's been years since I last drew.
I come here almost Friday. It's nice and peaceful, easy to do some homework.'
Five gasps, realising the date and he quickly gets up to spatial jump towards the park he visited last time. He quickly crosses the road to the street lined up with different shops and recognises the coffee shop his mystery girl had drawn.
"We were so close to meeting..."
"Five! Look what (y/n) sent me!" Klaus once again barges into Five's room before he could even open the journal to read his new entry after picking it up from the library.
"Klaus not now-"
"-she sent me this really cute pink non-alcoholic drink! And look at the postcard! It's gorgeous!" Klaus squeals, shoving his gifts into Five's face. Five shoves the bottle away and leans back in annoyance as he looked at the postcard. It was an image of a sunset over a lake with the sky turning a bright purple. It looked like a drawing and was so breathtaking to look at.
"Nice Klaus but can you go away now." Five grumbles and Klaus shrugs, walking off as he quickly uncorks the wine bottle. Five sighs out in relief, sitting back on his headboard as he opened up the journal. He was surprised to find a postcard fall out and onto his lap.
Five turns the postcard over and gasps, eyes wide at the same postcard Klaus got from his friend in his hands.
'I went out on a spontaneous road trip with my family and it was honestly amazing. This was at a dock out in the middle of the lake that we found on our drive back home. There was something so free and peaceful about sitting at the edge and just watching the sun set with these colours in the sky. Wish you were here with me though but hey, makes a cool postcard am I right lol.'
"KLAUS! I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR FRIEND!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Five waited anxiously at the library where it all started, glancing at his watch as the time ticked by slowly. He sat at a table with two cups in front of him, one empty of his coffee and the other with some hot chocolate that was getting cold slowly.
"Where is she!?" Five mumbled softly, gnawing on his bottom lip as he played with the pages of the notebook he had left the day before with a note for the mystery girl to meet him. "Maybe she isn't coming..." Five sighs out in defeat, ready to get up when the familiar ring of the bell catches his attention. His eyes widen at the girl that strolled in, her soft cheeks flushed pink with her hair tousled by the wind. Five couldn't help but melt with a soft smile on his face as he saw the lively twinkle in her beautiful eyes, her smile knocking him over his feet.
"(y/n)?" Five softly called out and you looked at him in surprise.
You glance at the familiar red notebook in his hands and gasp. "Mystery boy!?" he chuckles and walks over to you, handing you your book back.
"The names Five actually." Five's heart leapt in his chest as you let him grab your hand, entwining your fingers together as he passed you your favourite hot chocolate. "I bought you your favourite..." You giggle softly at how adorable Five was, acting all embarrassed as you grabbed the cup.
"Why thank you Five." You grinned evilly at how red Five quickly turned as you kissed his cheek in thanks.
"U-uh, no p-problem." Five stutters slightly, holding your hand.
"So where are we going?" You asked.
"On our first date." You blushed in surprise at how forward Five was as he quickly dragged you out of the library.
"And my notebook boy is back to his confident self." You grinned as Five smiled back at you.
"And my mystery girl is more perfect than my wildest dreams."
I was inspired by the short Christmas series called Dash & Lily. Not bad, I had to admit even though I started watching it halfway through lol. It's a nice pass time to watch.
