A 14-year-old girl bolts down the road as she cries out, her nightgown soaked in blood that wasn't hers.

She ran as fast as she could, to escape the woman that had murdered her family. She banged on multiple doors, screaming for someone, for anyone to open the door and help her.

Five looked up from his book startled, hearing someone knocking on the front door like crazy. He quickly teleported down to the foyer to see his mother open the front door and quickly urge in a blood-soaked girl.

I'll chase them away

Five stood by the top of the stairs, something in him breaking as he saw the absolutely petrified look on the girl's face as she crumbled to the floor. She was crying out for help, pointing back outside.

I'll be your lighthouse

Five's father quickly came to see what the ruckus was about and that's when the girl sobbed out for him. "Please help me! Someone broke into my house and shot my parents and my little sister. Please! Please come and save them! I'm begging you!"

I'll make it okay

Five didn't notice his body moving when he realised he was holding the crying girl to his chest as she sobbed into his shirt. He held her tightly and pet her head, tucking her head under his chin as she gripped the fabric in her fists.

When I see your monsters

"My family, they're just gone. They didn't even spare my sister!" Five looked up at his father who stared down at the girl with furrowed brows as his mother tried to convince him to let the girl stay.

I'll stand there so brave

"She will stay here from now on. Grace, clean this child and send her to bed as soon as you can. She will be training with us at the break of dawn." Five silently cheered, helping the girl up on her feet and leading her to the bathroom where Grace took over to help her.

And chase them all away

In no time, Grace helped the girl into a spare bedroom, tucking her into bed as Five stood by the doorway all clean from the blood and in new PJs. He silently sat on a chair in front of the bed, watching the girl as she slept, wiping her tears away with a frown.

A cup of coffee still steaming

A few weeks had quickly gone past and Five was no closer to getting a word out of the broken girl as she sat in her bedroom alone. No one was able to talk to her or get her out of her room. She only trained during the night and hopefully slept through the day, avoiding whatever possible human interaction she could.

Staring back at me, it's blacker than the night

No one should ever witness their family being shot dead, or see anyone being shot dead right in front of them. God knows what Five would do if it was his family who died.

I'm awake but still sleeping

Five made it his mission to try and talk to the girl, to help her out of that abyss she was trapped in. To bring her back out into the light and to finally have something other than sadness and hurt in her heart.

I keep telling myself I'll be alright (I won't)

Whatever the time was, God knows that it was too damn early to be awake when Five was making coffee in the kitchen.

And I know it can't get worse than today

He furrowed his brows as he made a second cup, hearing the soft cries that he knew belonged to the girl that stayed in her room.

Sitting here and she's trying to rehearse what to say

His heart broke at the sound as he carried the cups upstairs, her trying to muffle the sounds so as to not wake everyone up in their rooms.

See, she's in the bathroom hoping I'm not in earshot

Five felt helpless knowing she cried every day, staying up to lean against the wall as his room was right next to hers.

"Hello?" Five suddenly heard silence and he sighs, setting the tray down on the floor in front of her bedroom door and teleporting into the girl's rooms before opening the door from the inside to get his tray.

He set it down on a table, turning around to find her curled in the smallest ball possible as she had wedged herself between the corner of the wall and a cupboard.

And I know it's been a while since you seen me

"Go away." That was the first time Five had heard her voice since the night she stumbled in covered from head to toe in blood, still sounding as broken now as she was back then.

Smile and laugh like I used to

"I'm not leaving you." Five grabbed the cups, sitting down in front of the girl and setting a cup down on the carpeted floor in front of her as he sipped from his. Oh, how he wished to see the girl smile once for him, but he knew she was hurting too much.

I've been in denial since it happened

Five saw the girl lift her head slightly, her cries quietening down to soft sniffles as she wiped her tears away. Five sighs in relief as she grabs the cup to drink the coffee.

Just take me to the past

They sat in silence as they drank their hot bitter drink, the girl slowly uncurling from her ball to sit crossed-legged.

'Cause I just can't imagine losing you (too)

She stared down at the floor the entire time, her hair covering her face light a curtain that separated her dark world from Five's world.

Five sighs and gets up to go back to bed when he feels a tug on his pants. "Please... Please don't leave me..."

"I won't." Five kneels down and holds the girl's hand in his, helping her back up on her bed to go to sleep. "I promise." Five curled around the girl protectively, tucking her head under his chin as he held her tightly.

"(y/n)." the girl mumbles out against Five's shirt and he understood that it was her name.

Told me this as she stared into my eyes, said

"You have a beautiful name." Five murmurs out, falling asleep with the vulnerable girl in his arms and knowing she was finally getting her much-deserved sleep.

Five came to your room every night, always bringing a tray of his famous peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich with a cup of coffee with him. You were hesitant to take it from him but Five always stayed by your side until you finished the food he gave you.

Five hated seeing how skinny and sickly you looked, increasing the portions little by little every night. It slowly became a routine that Five eagerly looked forward to, coming by your room to feed you. It was almost like a cute little tea party between the two of you.

Tell me your problems

"What's your name?" Five shoots his head up to look at you in surprise as you stared at him with your wide doe eyes.

"Um, Five." Five silently cheered, sipping his coffee as you nodded and went back to reading a book that he brought for you to keep you occupied instead of crying. "Do you..." Five whispered, unsure if he wanted to ask. "Do you want to go outside with me?" Five notices you gripping your book tightly and he panics. "If you don't want to, it's ok!"

"No, I... Maybe I should... Go outside... I haven't seen the sun in a while..." You spoke softly and Five held your shaking hands in his.

"We will just go out to the roof. Nothing too extreme." Five grinned at this achievement as you nodded in agreement.

I'll chase them away

Five took hold of your hand in his, enjoying the warmth as he lead you to the roof when the sun was just about to rise. "Here." He leads you to sit on a seat in front of the greenhouse he fixed up a little with fresh flowers he had stolen around the city just for you.

"Wow." Five sat down next to you, smiling brightly as you whispered in awe of the golden rays painting the sky. "I forgot how nice and warm it is..." Five instantly made it his mission to make you happy again no matter what.

Five held you close to him as he leads you down the stairs to the living room where everyone was waiting to meet you. A few weeks have passed and Five managed to bring you out of your shell a little more, taking you out for walks around the backyard or just a few blocks around the street. He finally thought you were ready to meet the others as he sat down next to you on the couch.

"Everyone, this is (y/n)." You waved and everyone waved back. Klaus was the most excited, bouncing in his seat while Ben was trying to calm him down.

"Hi! I'm Klaus! Nice to meet you!"

"Klaus, you're going to scare her!" Allison hissed out.

"You're quite cute, like a doll." Diego blushes softly and Five glares at him. Everyone goes around introducing themselves before getting cosy to watch a movie. Five couldn't help his racing heart as you snuggled up close to him under the blanket, falling asleep on his chest as he laid his head on top of yours.

Five couldn't believe his eyes when he found you making breakfast for everyone as Viktor played his violin beautifully. It was the first time in his entire life to see his family actually act like a normal family. He stared at you with adoration, seeing a glimpse of the future with you in it as he sat down at the kitchen table. The boys all tease him causing you to blush softly which causes Five's heart to skip a beat.

A few months quickly go by and Five couldn't help the feeling in his heart that grew so quickly as he spent more time with you. The way your eyes slowly sparkled back to life, the way your lips twitched in a small smile when you saw something you liked or your adorable bell-like giggles as something amused you. Five felt so complete in your presence, like how you fit right into his body as he hugged you to sleep every night.

He understood that there would be days where you would recoil back in the darkness and Five promised to always be there for you when you needed him. He would never leave your side, he would always protect you and be there to hold your hand. Five brushed your hair away as you lay on his chest, kissing your forehead as the two 16-year-olds slept in each other's arms.

It was a quiet night, one of the many within these two years. Five held (y/n) tightly in his arms like he did every night, something both teenagers grew to love and need as they got closer. It was the only way for either of them to sleep peacefully.

You both laid on Five's bed as he was curled into your waist, sighing softly against your stomach as you groaned out. Your body was slightly drenched with sweat, tossing and turning on the bed as a nightmare invaded your mind. You heard the blood-curdling screams of your family, of your little sister begging you for help as she lay on the floor and bleeding out with an arm reached out for you.

You won't like what you see

The images flashed over and over again, an endless hell loop as they were shot over and over by the tall woman. You were stuck in the middle, trying to wake them up, trying to keep them alive but failed as they bled onto your hands.

You screamed and screamed, pleading at the woman to just stop, to stop all this. To stop killing your family, trade their death for yours instead. You just wanted it to stop.

It's like

You sat up quickly, heaving but the nightmare never left your eyes. You still saw their bloody bodies laying on Five's bedroom floor, the woman standing over at them and you screamed at her. You yelled and shouted, wanting to make her pay, make her pay for everything she did. You wanted her to hurt, you wanted her to bleed slowly just like she did to your family.

I can't believe this is happening to me

Five quickly woke up to hear things breaking and crashing against each other, sitting up to see you huddled in the corner with your head on your knees as objects in his room started flying and zooming past each other.

And could someone please shut this fucking answering machine

"(y/n)!?" Five called out, breathing in a gasp as your body was covered in lines of web-like streaks, shimmering a bright golden hue like lightning as it fizzled and crackled. Things started exploding in Five's room and he dove for you, to try and calm you down.

So I can start leaving these messages

"Five, please make it stop." You begged the streaks splitting your skin like cracks in wood.

That you will never get

"I'm here (y/n), just listen to me ok." Five held your face in his hands, the pads of his thumbs brushing your cheeks as he looked into your eyes which were now a molten lava colour instead of its usual beautiful colour. "Just keep your eyes on me. Just focus on me and breathe." Five holds you, leaning his head on your forehead as you slowly calmed down while the floating objects all crashed back to the ground.

And all these cries for help

"What happened?" You mumbled out, afraid to close your eyes or move your eyes other than looking into Five's emerald eyes in fear of seeing that nightmare over again.

"You have powers (y/n)."

Five looked down at the hand that held his, his fingers entwined with yours as you swung it back and forth happily. Five couldn't ignore the precious warmth from your hand, the sparks that shoot up his arm and the flutters in his stomach as you walked next to him.

Five smiled brightly at you, his heart flipping as you beamed at him. A beautiful smile that was all for him and only him, a smile that he managed to put on your face only.

"Let's go get ice cream!" Five nodded, absolutely head over heels for you as you easily dragged him towards the 24/7 ice cream store. The store owner paid no attention to the 18-year-olds as they bought their frozen treats at 2 in the morning.

See this isn't something that Imma just forget

The moon shone brightly as the two young adults sat next to each other under a willow tree, a warm breeze blowing over them. Five quickly finished his ice cream, his heart set on finally telling you his feelings, how he has loved you the moment he laid eyes on you.

I would trade it all for one more minute

"(Y/n)..." Five held your hands in his, turning around to face you. Five's heart warmed at the bright look in your eyes, full of life and no longer dull and dead. "There's something I need to tell you." Five leaned closer, leaning his forehead on yours as he held your cheeks, letting out a shaky sigh as his feelings become too much to express. "I lo-"

Five was suddenly pulled away from you harshly, pinned down by a group of Commission assassins as the Handler held a gun to your head. "Let her go!" Five hissed out, pure anger bubbling in him as you cried out in pain, the Handler gripping your hair.

I'm still sitting here wondering who did it

"Five!" You cried out for him as the Handlers henchmen started beating him up. Before Five could teleport to you, the Handler has taken you away from him. Five screamed out, suddenly seeing red and easily murdering the group of men that had no chance against him. Five crumbled to his knees, ignoring the blood dripping all over his body as he just begged for you to come back to him.

Five changed in a blink of an eye in front of his siblings, even their father was unsure of how to stop his adoptive son as Five forced himself to practice every day. No one could stop him and everyone knew to stay out of Five's way.

Knowing you'll never walk through

Five spent every possible waking moment to perfect his spatial jumps and his time travels, jumping back and forward through seconds and increasing into time to almost long minutes. Five grew cold and violent, shutting out everyone around him as his only mission was to bring you back to him safe and sound.

Said you'd come right back

Five couldn't handle the lonely nights as he lay awake in his bed without the warmth of your body hugging him. He would stay awake most nights, sitting out on the front porch on his stairs, hoping to see you run up to the door like you did before.

But you never did.

And now you're gone like that

Every time you never came home to him, Five was forced to go to sleep, walking through an endless nightmare of you being tortured and hurt as he let you slip from his fingers. The long nightmare-filled nights finally broke him at the dining table as he stabbed a knife into the table.

A blank stare as I stand so alone

Five spoke to his father for the first time in a long while, telling him that he was going to time travel to bring you back. Five instantly grew furious as his father disobeyed him and ran out of the house.

All he cared about was bringing you safe and sound in his arms as he jumped through time.

Five had to pretend to not know this woman, earning a contracted job under the Commission and becoming one of their best agents. The mind-numbing task of killing innocents slowly drove Five insane, turning him into a mindless drone as he unwillingly forgot what his previous mission was.

It was another normal day for Five as he waited in the Handler's office for his new mission. This time around, however, he was assigned a partner. Someone who was an elite agent, a solid second after him that went by the name Agent 44.

No one knew who this person was, only knowing that she was an extremely skilled murderer. She was trained to kill her targets without hesitation like another mindless robot in the commission.

She had the intelligence to easily surpass every agent in the small span of 2 years, now being in her mere 20s. She was trained through electrotherapy, her emotions being supposedly erased away to be a born killing machine.

Five grimaced at the file as he read the information, shutting it closed and slamming it on the table as the office door swung open.

"Here is your new partner Five! Five, meet Agent 44. Agent 44, meet Five." Five could feel his heart shatter as he watched you walk through the door, your face devoid of any emotion as donned a black head-to-toe leather suit. "I'll let you two get along. Toodaloo!"

As soon as the door shut, Five broke into tears, all the emotions that he had buried deep within him come flooding through as he saw the love of his life just look at him with a blank stare.

"(y/n)... Is that you...?" Five despised the dead look that had extinguished the life that used to be in your eyes, hating himself for taking so long to find you.

Even though you didn't look like you recognised him, Five still thought that you had grown up so beautiful the last two years of your life. Five made it his mission to make you smile again, to see that sparkle in your eyes again like he used to before. After every mission, Five always planned to take you out somewhere, slowly chipping away at your frozen heart to let his love in.

Five couldn't believe that he had forgotten how much he loved you as he smiled warmly while you sat underneath the setting sun on a rooftop. Just like he did the first time, Five built stole flowers across different eras for you, sitting down next to you on a bench as his feelings for you bloomed again.

"Five, how are we going to do this?" You asked, filled with a sudden sense of fear as Five explained his escape plan to you.

"Don't worry about that. I will take care of everything ok. I don't want you getting hurt anymore, not in my watch." Five murmurs out, holding your hand tightly in his. "I promised I would save you but I took too long. I can't imagine how much pain you've been in. I don't want to lose you ever again."

But keep slipping away

"You won't. I still can't believe you came back for me." Five wiped the tears that escaped down your cheeks, affectionately kissing your forehead.

But luck wasn't on your side as the Handler overheard your plan, becoming absolutely furious that her two best agents were planning an escape. She quickly declared war on the both of you, forcing Five to cut his equations short and open up a portal for the both of you.

As you both tumbled in, the both of you turned back into your young 18-year-old selves with Five's 30-year-old siblings surrounding them in shock.

"(y/n)?" Viktor and Klaus burst into tears, running over to quickly hug you as the rest of the family all piled in for a group hug.

When I don't know myself

"We missed you so much d-doll." Diego whimpered out, stuttering the nickname he had for you as he held you tightly in his arms.

"It's been too long monkey." Luther murmured out, kissing the top of your head. "I'm so glad you're ok."

"You're finally back sweetheart." Allison kneeled in front of you, wiping your tears away as she held your face in her hands. "The family is finally back together."

"As sweet as this reunion was, we need to be prepared. There is a war coming!" Five exclaims and everyone gasps as multiple portals open to spill agents with guns filtering through.

'Cause I felt

The Hargreeves family and you run out to the road, killing off the commission drones as the city slowly crumbles into ruin and debris. Viktor helped you blast off commission drones with his soundwaves as you shot electricity and burning bodies in your wake.

I was down, I was out

"I've had enough of this. It's time to finish you off once and for all." The Handler held a remote in her hand as she snarled at you and Five.

Then you looked at me now

"If the apocalypse won't happen, I might as well cause it myself." She smirks, pressing a button that suddenly launched a nuclear bomb towards the heart as she teleported away with her drones following after her.

The Hargreeves' siblings and you stood on the road, looking up at the nuclear bomb that would soon wipe out everything on this planet. "No! This can't be the end! There has to be something we can do!" Five yells out, gripping his hair as he paced and you looked at him with a sad smile.

"Five..." Five stared down at you and he knew what that look meant.

"No, I won't let you!" Five held you tightly in his arms, his fear slowly coming true as you hugged him back tightly before leaning back. "Please... (y/n)..." Five cried out as you took a step back, placing a hand on his cheek. Five leaned into your hand, holding it tightly.

I see your pain

"Five, you have no idea how much I love you. You saved me from my monsters, you saved me from my darkness and you stayed by me to chase them away. You cared for me unconditionally when I felt like no one else will. You took care of me, you helped me grow, you loved me. I wish I said this sooner, I wish I told you how I would never be here if it weren't for you. You helped me be happy again and I will forever cherish our memories. You helped me learn to love Five and I happily give you my heart. "

"I love you so much (y/n). I would trade it all just to have one more moment with you, for one of our nights that we used to have, to be able to hold you in my arms again." Five quickly held your face and leaned down to kiss you gently. You kissed him back deeply and Five held you close after knowing you wouldn't shatter in his arms. He kissed you with everything he had, will all his love he has for you. You leaned back gently, wiping Five's tears away as you kissed him one more time.

"I love you Five Hargreeves." You quickly flew off towards the nuclear bomb but Five screamed for you, quickly running after you.

"(y/n)!" Five watched with a broken heart as you threw a large golden shield around the bomb as it stopped midair just inches away from touching the ground. Your skin was splitting with golden streaks of lighting ripping through your body as you struggled to hold the shield together from the inside. "(Y/n)! No! I can't lose you! I can't lose you like this!" Five screams out to her, crying his heart out as he reached the forcefield.

"Five..." You knelt on the floor of your forcefield, putting a hand on the surface and he does the same as he cried out for you.

"I love you (y/n), please don't do this! I'm begging you! There has to be another way! I can't lose you, anyone but you!" Five punched on the forcefield but you just gave him a sad smile.

"Thank you for making me feel alive again Five. I love you so much." You breathed out as your body suddenly starts glowing gold, the lightning streaks in your body slowly disintegrating your body into golden particles within the forcefield.

When I see your monsters

"(Y/n)! NO!" The forcefield suddenly glows a blinding gold light, forcing Five to jump away and cover his eyes when he heard a loud explosion. He quickly opened his eyes again to face nothing.

There was no bomb, no love of his life.

"(y/n)..." Five crumbled to the floor as he screamed, leaning his head up to the sky as it slowly rained gold snowflakes.
