The streets roared with life and celebration as people lined the streets. The stalls and the roads were decorated in gorgeous silk ribbons, tinsel and bright confetti that blew into the sky along with flower petals as the carriage rode down the road slowly. Soldiers introduced the arrival of the citizens royal family with the countries anthem played through the horns as everyone waved happily to the family.
You squealed and looked out the window, your tiara titling on your head as you waved eagerly to your people as your parents just chuckled softly. People gave you flowers and other cute little trinkets as they wished you a happy 14th birthday.
"Thank you everyone!" You eagerly hand your gifts back out to the children that ran up to your carriage, letting them play with the toys as people awed at how kind you were. The horses trotted down the road towards your castle through the town village that grew in prosperity and wealth. The horses suddenly neigh and jump up in fright as people gasped out in fear before scattering to hide. You looked around in confusion as your parents pulled your back in the safety of their arms as the soldiers surrounded the carriage and yelled at the group of people that was blocking your path.
They didn't seem to be of any sort of danger as 6 children around your age stood in a line in front of a man that wore a monocle. The strange thing about these children was the masks they wore on their faces, all 2 girls and 4 boys.
"We are warning you one last time! Clear way of the path or we will attack!" You didn't understand why the soldiers were being hostile to these people until you saw the determination on your fathers face.
"(y/n), my darling girl. I love you so much ok. Stay here with your mother." You whine out as he lets go of you, getting out of the carriage to confront the masked people. You couldn't see what was happening, just your father's cape on his back. You saw one of the girls say something to your father and he tenses up, turning around to walk to one of the soldiers.
"Father?" you called out, gasping when you noticed his eyes a murky white as he took a sword from one of the soldiers and piercing it through his chest. "NO!" you cry out as your mother stumbles out of the carriage screaming and wailing as you watched your father bleed out on the floor. "Father! No! Please no!" You scream out, crying at the soldiers to let you go as they held onto you to prevent you from being by your father's body. "Let me go!"
You screamed and wailed, watching in fear as the soldiers protecting your parents were snapped in half like weak twigs from blue tentacles that erupted from the chest of one of the masked boys. "Run..." You mother gasps, reaching out for you as blood pours from her mouth when a knife goes through her chest.
"Mother!" You scream out as you jump down from the carriage, a hand grasping your wrist and pulling you away from the scene "Let me go! We need to help my parents!" You wail, struggling against the hold of whoever was running with you behind him through the woods. "I said let me go!" You yell out, harshly tugging your arm away from the tight grip and shoving the person hard as they fell to the floor. You were about to run back when the person stopped you, holding your arms and turning you around.
"It's too late for them! If you go back, they'll end up killing you instead!" The boy yells at you as he shakes you while you simply cried in silence. "You can't go back... It's too late."
"No..." you shake your head, whimpering as you closed your eyes, the scene of your parents being killed by these supernatural children playing over and over again. "I can't leave them..." You cried out as the boy pulled you close and hugged you tightly to his chest.
"I'm sorry." the boy held you before letting you go and you finally looked up to see his emerald eyes and tar coloured hair. "You need to rule the kingdom now princess."
"I-I don't know how!" You wail out again, crying when you realised that your parents weren't there to rule over the kingdom with you, to guide you when you came of age.
"I'll help you princess. You need to become the heir and find the people that murdered your family." You hiccuped as the tears stopped streaming down your cheeks, nodding slowly.
"I'll kill them all," You growled as you fisted your hands. "to avenge my parents."
Ever since that fateful day, you took the throne as the new Queen of your country with the boy that saved you as your right-hand man. You had learnt that his name was Five when he lead you back to your castle that day through the woods. You thought it was a weird name for him but it oddly suited him.
You grew up cold-hearted. Being so calculating and logical made you grow distant with everyone around you since you had to mature much faster for your age, but Five helped you with feeling some sort of compassion for your citizens when they had an issue. You were always wary and suspicious of everyone around you, training every day with the guards and with Five to make sure you could protect yourself.
Despite being so cold, you grew to be a wise and intelligent Queen as your kingdom prospered with the help of Five when you had to make hard decisions for your kingdom. Despite being your right-hand man, Five was like your escape from your responsibilities as he grew up with you within the castle walls.
You both grew to be extremely close friends since that day, talking long into the night about whatever troubled you. You didn't want to but you couldn't help falling in love with the smart and kind boy as he held you during your long uneasy nights. He was always there for you despite you knowing how to look after yourself. Five was always caring towards you and so patient.
Those long nights filled with giggles.
The secret rendevous to the kitchen to steal sweets.
The pranks on maids or soldiers.
Or just the nights where Five held you tightly in his arms and coaxed you back to sleep after you woke up screaming from the nightmare of your parents being killed in front of your eyes.
You had fallen deep in love with Five, finally confessing to him in your secret hideout in your black rose garden. Five had found you when you wandered off in the night. You sat on the step of the gazebo with vines of black roses circled every inch of the wood while the moon shone over it like glittering silver light.
"You seem to be coming here every night (y/n). Are you ok?" You sigh out as Five sat down next to you, draping a shawl over your shoulders as you were wearing a simple night gown.
"I'm ok. Just... trying to figure things out." You mutter, snuggling into Five's shawl and blushing. You look over at Five to see him smiling down at you gently as he brushed your hair away from your face.
"You know I'm always here for you." You nod as Five pulled you closer to wrap his arms around you.
"I know. It's just, I don't want to lose you."
"You won't lose me. No matter how many times you beat my ass at sparring." You chuckle and Five sighs out happily. "There's that precious smile." Your blush brightens and you hide your face in the shawl.
"Five, I... I love you. I can't remember exactly when I fell in love with you but I can't see my future without you." You close your eyes, afraid to look at Five when you felt his hand on your cheek.
"(y/n), look at me. Please." You slowly open your eyes as they widen when you see an emotion in Five's eyes along with sadness. "I am merely your right hand. I am not worthy of your love." Five opposes but you shake your head.
"Five, you have been by my side since the day my world came crumbling down. You helped me back up and helped me to move on to lead my kingdom. I can't imagine my life with you Five, my heart won't be able to take it. I love you." Five looked at you with wide eyes and in absolute shock before smiling softly and holding your face in his hands. He caresses your cheeks and kisses your forehead gently.
"I love you too (y/n). I love you so much." Five leans back, eyes swimming with tears as he leans down to gently capture your lips in a kiss. Five cries softly as you kiss him back with earnest as he held the love of his life in his arms, but he couldn't shake the fear that took hold of his heart.
I'm sorry (y/n)...
