Five groans out in pain as he stumbled into what seemed to be a library after teleporting from the lab company that had exploded. His body flopped on the oddly comforting carpeted floor with Dolores resting next to him. He turned his face, cheek resting against the carpet as Dolores stared at him.
"I don't know what to do now Dolores."
"Equations? That may be my last resort to figure out how to stop this apocalypse." Five grunts out as he lifted his aching body up with shaky arms, slowly getting up on his feet. He picks up Dolores and rests her against a pillar, jumping away to grab multiple books and stolen alcohol from the closest bar.
"No, I'm not doing to get surly. I need this to keep me awake." Five rolls his eyes at the mannequin, gulping down half the bottles contents, wincing at the slight burn but sighing out at the taste. "Time to get to work."
On the other side of the floor with the rambling teenage boy and his mannequin, sat a quiet girl that sat on the floor hidden away between rows of shelves. You were reading a book that was part of a series you had recently started, the silence being your only companion as the floor you were on of the library was rarely used or visited. It was almost always deserted. Something you preferred rather than sitting in a crowded area.
Ugh, I need to stop sitting on the floor like this for hours.
You wince out as you stretched your spine backwards, twisted your torso left and right before getting up.
At this rate, I'm going to get a flat ass.
You checked the time on your phone to see that it was a little past 5, the sun outside the window behind you slowly starting to dip below the horizon.
I should head home.
You quickly packed up your stuff, slinging your bag on your back as you walked out from between the shelves and out on the walkway. You walked around the floor, reaching the stairs when you stumbled across a strange boy in a tacky school uniform. He had fallen asleep with a mannequin held tightly in his grip, an empty bottle of Jack Daniels slipping from his lap and rolling towards your feet.
The hell?
You finally noticed the polished white pillars all covered in inky black equations, every inch of it scribble including the railings the boy laid against.
What's wrong with this dude?
What's with all these equations?
The boy groans in pain, his brows furrowed as he hissed out, clutching his stomach and that's when you notice the bruises on his body and the ash stuck to his skin in clumps.
Shit, is he ok!?
You quickly dropped to your knees in front of the boy, pushing away the various open books and shaking his shoulders.
"Piss off Diego..." The boy swats his hand at you but you quickly dodge, shaking him again until he finally opened his eyes.
Five blinked his eyes open, leaning back in confusion when he suddenly saw a strange girl kneeling in front of him. She had a concerned look on her face, her pink lips pulled down in a frown.
"Who the fuck are you!?" Five pushes the girl away and she narrows her oddly beautiful eyes at him. Five rubs his forehead as he watches the girl pull out a phone, typing away at it before shoving it to his face. 'Are you ok? You're hurt.' Five slowly reads out. "That's none of your business." Five swats the girls hand away and he hisses out in pain at the movement. The girl who looked around the same as his age raised a brow at Five as he clutched his stomach. The girl then unzips her bag and suddenly pulls out aid kit stuff.
Why does she have that in her bag?
Five watches in confusion as the girl types away in her phone again. 'Sit still.' Five mumbles out and he listens, letting the girl clean up his wounds and patch him up as much as she could.
Five looks up to see a librarian walk up to them both, tapping on (y/n)'s shoulder. "(y/n)?" The girl that was wiping away some blood on Five's cheek paused with a jump, looking up to see the librarian staring at the two teenagers with a raised brow. "Uh, is everything ok here sweetheart?" Five wondered if it was the fact that he was absolutely hammered but he was confused as to why the librarian was moving her hands around as she spoke to the younger girl in front o him.
"Yes, you can leave now." Five snaps back and the older lady glares at him before she smiles at (y/n).
"Do you need any help?" The librarian moved her hands again as she spoke, the (h/c) haired girl shaking her head no. "Is he ok?" the girl nods. "Do you need me to bring anything?" the girl shakes her head no once more. "Ok, you know where to find me if you ever need anything sweetheart." The girl shoots the librarian two thumbs up and the older lady leaves the two teenagers alone.
'How are you feeling?' Five reads out the text after the girl in front of him was done. "Uh, yeah. Much better now thanks." The girl shakes her head and shoves her phone in Five's hand, pointing to her mouth and then at the keyboard.
'I'm feeling much better. Thanks.' Five types and passes the phone back to the girl who smiles happily. Fives breath hitches in his throat at this girls smile, a sudden warm feeling washing over him.
'What are you doing with all this? And what's with the mannequin?'
'The mannequin is a friend of mine and I'm doing something that's none of your business.' The girl rolls her eyes playfully as she and the boy in front her pass her phone back and forth.
'Ok jeez man, don't get all pissy on me.'
'Why are you not talking to me? What's with the phone?'
'I'm deaf.'
'Oh.'
Five frowns at the girl's previous reply as she moved to sit next to him.'I'm sorry-'
'-chill don't worry about it. But seriously, what are all these equations for?' Five glances up at the pillars and sigh out.
'Promise to keep a secret?'
'Boy, I'm deaf. I'm the ultimate queen of keeping secrets. People can't understand shit if I try to talk.' Five smiles as the girl sitting next to him chuckles silently, amused by her humour.
Five and you got closer after that bump in at the library, using it as your secret hangout whenever you just wanted to escape and spend time together. Well, Five wanted to escape his family a lot more and just wanted to see you. There was something about you that made him feel like a normal guy, like a boy who had a simple crush on a girl he liked.
It felt refreshing after he and his family managed to stop the apocalypse, not having to worry about enemies or his powers anymore. Five loved teleporting to your house, catching you off guard sometimes or just joining you when you were having a Charlie Chaplin marathon.
Five enjoyed entertaining you, showing off his powers and his skills whenever you asked him too. You especially enjoyed his stories about the apocalypse, his family and his time at the commission. You felt special to be one of the few people to know about Five's past, to break through his cold exterior and to learn about the warmth behind his walls. But it was hard to communicate, typing back and forth on a device if you both were hanging out in person.
So that's why Five wanted to learn sign language for you.
Albeit, he focused more on his studies and started putting off his hangouts with you even though he didn't mean to. He just wanted to be perfect for you.
After weeks of hardly seeing him, Five suddenly teleports to your bedroom, sitting casually in front of you on your bed. You frown at him, crossing your arms and Five pouts. You were mad at him.
He didn't tell me why he disappeared for weeks and he just comes back now!?
You huff out, turning your head and Five moves to kneel in front of you.
Five grabbed your notepad and starts scribbling on it before showing you. '(y/n), please don't be mad at me. I'm sorry for not telling you where I was or why I couldn't visit you. I was studying and I guess I was too focused on that.'
You read over it, noticing the bags under Five's eyes and you look at him sadly, brushing your fingers on his cheeks. Five visibly relaxes in your hand, leaning his head in your palm.
He missed your warmth and your touch. He had no idea how soothing it was until now.
'Let me make it up to you, please?' Five scribbles on the pad again, clasping his hands together and bowing. You chuckle silently as Five kneels back up, grinning brightly.
'Ok, ok. Just stop doing that. Let me get dressed.' Five jumps up and quickly leaves your bedroom, letting you dress until he comes back when you knock on your door. Five wraps and arm around your waist, looking at you and you give him a thumbs up. You see a flash of blue and you land in the foyer of the large mansion of Five's home.
Not going to get used to that any time.
You groan, sticking your tongue out and you see Five burst out laughing when you see a tall lanky man with curly brown hair walk up to you.
He was grinning brightly, his mouth running too quickly for you to read as he hands starting moving around. He suddenly starts spinning in circles, almost in excitement and Five had to grab him by the shoulders to stop him. You blink at the two men and you see the taller one open his mouth in realisation when Five explained to him that you were deaf.
You look at Five expectantly to see him furrow his brows, his arms raised and he slowly moves them to form familiar words. You gasp in shock, realising that Five was signing to you.
'You know how to sign!?' You were beaming in joy and Five smiles, nodding.
'I wanted to learn for you. That's why I couldn't see you. It was my surprise for you.' You quickly jumped onto Five, hugging the daylights out him and he spins you around.
'You learnt so quickly!'
'I guess, I'm still trying to figure things out.' You chuckle, seeing him mix up the words but still understanding what he meant. 'This is Klaus by the way, my brother. He says hi.' You wave at Klaus and he claps his hands in joy before dancing around weirdly. 'He says that you're a cute version of The Little Mermaid. That's your nickname to him.' You snort, seeing Klaus trying to charade a mermaid.
'Tell him I love it' Klaus picks you up and hugs you before setting you down again and waving goodbye before running off. Five holds your hand and your teleport to his bedroom. You stumble in, regaining your balance before walking around. You notice the various books on signing and your heart melts at his kind gesture. 'You didn't have to do this for me Five.'
Five shakes his hand, grabbing both your hands and kissing them. 'I wanted to. There's one more thing I wanted to show you.' You tilt your head in confusion as Five takes a step back, raising his hands and opening his mouth to repeat his words. 'I am in love with you (y/n).'
You look at him shock, a hand covering your mouth as your heart burst in happiness. "I love you too Five." You spoke up for the first time in years, hoping that you were able to sound out the syllables correctly for Five to hear. He looks blinks at you with wide eyes before beaming and jumping on you to hug you. He left kisses all over your face before softly kissing you on the lips.
