P.S. I don't know what this story is lol. I just had the biggest urge to suddenly write angst with the song. There's just something so powerful about the song.

"A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful."

~ Martha Graham ~

The heart stops beating

When the music starts to play

Tryna' pull up

Seems like time has stopped

Oh that would be my first death

I been always afraid of

Five grumbles as he quickly walked through the eerily empty hallways of a high school, something he never imagined himself ever doing in his lifetime. He was assigned to go undercover as a student for a case his father had given his siblings to solve.

There was a string of crimes happening recently in the area and the main suspect was believed to be hiding as a janitor at a school. And seeing as Five was physically 18, he was the closest to look the part of a student without raising questions.

Five sighed as he looked down the identical hallways, glancing at the useless paper in his hands since he was utterly lost. "Fuck these hallways. Why do they all look the same?" Five groans out, regretting arriving late to the school late since everyone would be in class about now.

Five walked around aimlessly, trying to find his first class when he suddenly heard the beat of faint music. "What...?" Five mumbles seeing a door slightly ajar and walks towards it as curiosity got the best of him. He heard the music increase in sound as he got closer, peering through the gap to see a girl dancing.

This was the moment when Five met Her.

If this can no longer hold

My heart will stop beating

Then like this may be how

I die my first death

But what if that moment's right now

Right now

Five sat quietly on the floor of the dance studio, sitting cross-legged as he calmly read his newspaper with the music playing full blast in the background along with multiple feet stomping in sync.

He looked up to see the group of girls dancing together in almost perfect synchronisation, every single one of your friends having a serious look on their faces to get the timing right. They all danced in front of the large wall mirror, Five shifting his gaze to you as you danced in front of the group as the leader.

He watched in utter awe at how you danced with such concentration in your movements, making sure you didn't make a single mistake. This was one of the many things he admired about you.

A slow heartbeat in my ears

Bump, bump, bump

Trying to escape with no avail

Jump, jump, jump

No tune affects me anymore

Weeping a silent cry

A few weeks had gone by and Five had no lead so far, nor did he ever see the suspect roam around the school as a janitor. Not even once. Five wandered if the suspect was even here at the school in the first place as he tried to avoid the stupid horny teenagers.

He was getting frustrated and annoyed about having no info on the suspect and being around these disgusting beings weren't helping. Five couldn't tolerate any of these loud mouth breathers. Except for one.

The girl that sat quietly in almost all the classes he had with her.

The girl that had her headphones in all the time, even when she was talking to her friends.

The girl he first saw in the dance studio on the first day and thought about every day since then.

Her face was normally devoid of any emotion when she didn't have her headphones in but when they were, there was a sense of absolute freedom and calm that Five wished he could experience once in his life.

Five glanced over to see the girl with her eyes closed as she sat by the window, a look of serenity on her face and Five just wanted to go over and talk to her. He didn't seem to see any harm in trying to engage with the girl during his mission and that's what he did.

He finally built up the courage one day and introduced himself. Five finally found out that the girl was listening to music through her headphones.

"Hello. The names Five. What's your name?"

"I'm (y/n)."

What a beautiful name she had.

An ocean where daylight never touched yeah, yeah, yeah

My lost feet stuck in the mundane yeah, yeah, yeah

Every noise, every sound becomes filled with pain yeah, yeah, yeah

Killin' me now, killin' me now

Do you hear me yeah

Five continued to watch in absolute adoration and love as you let the music drive you, let every beat and note of melody move your body. Five admired how you danced with every emotion you felt from the music and how you truly felt through the lyrics as you mimed them silently.

You looked so in your element in your black dancing suit as the others wore white for their costume rehearsal. It was the final chance for the group to practice their choreography before the long-awaited performance they had been practising for.

Five admired this special connection you had with the lyrics and the emotions any artist embedded in their music. It was as if you could truly feel what they felt as they sang the songs. This was one of the many things that amazed Five while he got to know you better through the many weeks as he slowly fell deeply in love with you. The passion you had for music as if it was what kept you alive.

I'm losing consciousness nah, nah, nah

Struggle but it's all filled with mud nah, nah

Every moment seems like forever yeah, yeah, yeah

Film it now, film it now

Do you hear me yeah

"Why do you wear them all the time?" Five had asked (y/n) one day as they cuddled on the couch together while watching a show. Five was bored and wanted to spend the day with his girlfriend when the question suddenly popped up. It had been itching the back of his mind and he couldn't stop the words when they suddenly fell from his mouth.

"I hate the silence. I can't bear it. Plus with music, it actually helps me to feel emotions."

"So you're really just a huge music lover."

"In a sense yes, but just listening to the lyrics or the melody and understanding them makes me feel what the composer is feeling. This is what gives music so much meaning to me."

"Do you think you would ever fall out of love with music like this?"

"Never, unless you kill me." Five smiled gently hearing (y/n) giggle as she snuggled up to his chest and he kissed the top of her head.

Deeper

Yeah I think I'm goin' deeper

I keep losing focus

Please free me

Let my own feet carry me

But far within

In the deepest depths

I saw myself

Five groans softly, turning around in his sleep and reaching his arm out to be met with cold sheets. He opens his eyes to realise that (y/n) wasn't by his side sleeping and he pouts softly, missing her warmth.

He quickly gets up from the bed to look for her, wandering around the eerily quiet night of his house until he stumbled upon the practice room.

And that's when he heard it.

Five could hear the sombre music drifting past the open doorway and he opened it slightly to see (y/n) dancing. She was struggling though, missing a beat or making a misstep.

"This isn't like her." Five frowns seeing his love grow more frustrated as she stumbled once again, almost as if she was losing that touch.

That love for music that she feared.

Five opens the door silently as (y/n) yells out, slamming the mirror wall with her fists and throwing her bag across the room. "F-Five..." she whimpered when she saw him and Five's heart broke, instantly wrapping her up in his arms and holding her tightly.

Slowly, I open my eyes

I'm in my workroom, it's my studio

The darkness in waves brings agony

But I'll never give up

Inside

I saw myself, myself

Five cursed loudly as he ran on foot, chasing after the suspect finally after months of going undercover to just find the damn criminal. He was also extremely annoyed at how he was going to be late to your performance that you had been practising for, for ages.

"Where the fuck are you guys!? I need help here!" Five yells into his comms device and he hears his siblings fighting and yelling at each other to hurry up and help him. Five groaned, running through an alleyway and dodging bins as he tried to manipulate his power.

He had used too much of it already as it fizzed weakly around his hands. Five sharply turned right, chasing after the suspect until they ran into a building. Five quickly follows, going up the stairs and past a stage that leads him out to a large indoor theatre and his heart froze as he recognised the music that was making his bones jump through the floor.

He turned around and saw you dancing so fluidly up on stage, one of your dance members picking you up and spinning you around so elegantly. Despite hearing the song so many times, there was something in the dance that hit him along with the music as it reverberated through his heart.

Five finally understood what you meant.

He finally understood what you meant as he continued watching you as something struck inside him, teardrops suddenly trailing down his cheeks.

The music slowly came to a stop and you froze at the front of the stage with your arms extended out as everyone suddenly stood up to applause. Five stared at you, your extremely dark shadow spanning out behind you like a pair of large black wings had sprouted from your back.

"(y/n)!" Five beamed up at you as you panted and looked at him with love, the crowd screaming in cheer until a gunshot broke through.

Heartbeat racing in my ears

Bump, bump, bump

Eyes wide open into my forest

Jump, jump, jump

Nothing can defeat me

I shout out with ferocity
