fitting in
Dick didn't fit in. There were cliques in his school, just like there were in any school. He lived in a conservative part of Texas. There was no LGBT+ clique. Not that Dick wanted to be in one, his sexuality didn't define him. Everyone here was straight and cis and hated people who weren't. And that was one of the reasons everyone avoided Dick. After all, he was open with his sexuality. Everyone in school knew Dick was pansexual, and it hadn't ever been a secret. Dick—well, he didn't love himself—but he was okay with being pan, proud of it. Of course, there was another obvious reason why Dick was an outcast. Yeah, his name was Dick. Back in the day, people were named Dick, but now— it was a joke.
Dick fit in. There were people online, people that understood him. He lived in the open-minded internet. The LGBT+ clique was large. There were so many people who weren't straight and cis, and people who were but still supported those who weren't. That was one of the reasons the internet was a home for Dick. After all, here— he fit in. Everyone knew he was pansexual, and he was proud of it. There was another reason why Dick fit in online— he fought for LGBT+ rights. Back in the day, there had always been laws against it, but now— those laws were a joke.
In his day-to-day life, Dick was an outsider. On the internet, he was the opposite. In school life, Dick didn't have friends. Online, he had many.
In "real" life, Dick was the weird pansexual guy. Online, he had a whole community like him. And after school each day, he'd go online. He'd log on to his social media accounts, and message his friends. He sent messages to Clancy, a straight cis male who was passionate about the LGBT+ community, and the rights they should have. He skyped Em, an agender nerd who he was pretty sure he was in love with. He knew so many great people online. Real life had sort of sucked, but now his real life was online. When he saw people at school, they were just blank faces, no one that mattered. But when he was online, with people knew what he was going through— he truly fit in.
