analyzing(?) the fifth bnha opening
so!! the fifth bnha op was... something. it wasn't bad, of course, but i'd put it on the same level as the third bnha opening. i rewatched it a few times to look at some things and i like it.
but!! that's not what i came here for. im here to show you shit!
so first of all,
bakugou and todo are apart from the rest, who are all stuck in midair (why this is i don't know, it may mean something or it may just be a cool effect the animators wanted to use pff), and the reasons for this is that they, or at least todo, are very important to this arc, and the other one i dont wanna disclose for spoiler reasons (。・ω・。)
this shot, where deku is standing before a crowd of threatening figures, is obviously supposed to represent the students of shiketsu high, the people they'll be up against in the license exam. they are a powerful bunch of kids.
this guy... i can't quite make out who it is. people are saying it could be power loader, but i don't really think so. i might have to reread the license exam arc.
here's my baby inasa, one of the major characters in this arc and todo's rival of sorts. he's a delight!!
camie, a rather odd and mysterious character who is also very important to this arc.
shishikura; he's also rather important, especially to the bakusquad!! (i don't really remember who that guy back there is but i think he's around shishikura a few times bc he's a worrywart lmao)
ochako is pretty important at certain points!!
this is aizawa keeping his distance from ms. joke, the woman who supposedly wants to marry him (though it may be for jokes lmao), and who annoys aizawa to no end (bc he's gay he don't need this negativity in his life)
this shot is an homage to this drawing for chapter 114 of the manga:
with an inclusion of twice. there's a bit mainly centered around twice that i'm guessing is going to, for the most part, wrap up the season and introduce a new villain 👀 i haven't read the arc that this villain is in yet though. some of it but not all. so i still have to get on with that!!
this, where endeavor fades out and turns into todo, is a great way to represent inasa's interpretation of todo in the beginning, which is kind of a major plot point(?) in this arc. it was a nice touch!!
gang orca!! also important!!
here... all i can draw from this is a parallel to this in the first opening:
it's also nice foreshadowing to a certain event happening much later in the season that is... quite terrifying.
here we see a nice little tidbit, all might reflecting in deku's eyes but disappearing as deku moves past him; i see this as a nice way to represent deku's change, how he strives away from trying to be like all might and ultimately moves to surpass him. very nice!!
and, in the final shot, we see a few subtle things:
bakugou and todo are both facing away from the class/camera, again foreshadowing the 'important event that shall not be named' between these two.
kirishima's confused expression, questioning how bakugou [REDACTED] the [REDACTED], and probably confused as to how todo ended up the same way.
hagakure being in the center and closest to the camera; people have speculated that it's because of the well-known theory that she may be the ua traitor and this is trying to emphasize her importance, but then again horikoshi has said a number of times that he wants to draw hagakure more and make her a bit more noticeable/significant, so this very well could be some self-indulgent horikoshi decision lmao.
and finally, ojiro. nothing's peculiar about him. he's just adorable.
anyway! that's done, now i guess i could do the ending? or i guess i could give my opinion of it now and never speak of it again.
to describe it simply: meh.
to describe it in a bit more detail: it's weird. deku and the walk cycle look awkward, and while the running cycle is better it's still just odd. i like the shots of the class on the beach together though!! those are really nice. as for the song, i mcfucking LOVED it,, not only is it Long Hope Philia, but it's a very pretty acoustic version!! which just made the song a million times better.
so, all-in-all, current rating for the opening: a solid 6/10.
current rating for the ending: i guess... a 2.5/10 or 3/10? it may change but for now it's not too good. sorry studio bones ;∆;
oke!! bye!!
