For this, I just want to share things I personally really enjoy seeing in a story. To me, it just makes the story more enjoyable if executed well.
1) When they add a moment showing all of the character's fears. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but the villain (who of which usually has powers to manipulate certain aspects of reality) puts all of the characters through their fears. It can really add more depth to a character if it shows something about their past they can't get over (Kind of like a PTSD thing-ish), and it can showcase their imperfections, along with giving the villain a one-up in the battle.
2) A well-formed enemies-to-lovers, you do not know how many times I've seen something where they're forced to be together and for some reason, one character falls in love with the other despite still hating each other. EGRSWF: Every Good Romance Starts With Friendship. They require character development so that the end relationship doesn't end up horribly toxic!
